Uma Thurman as Marilyn Monroe - First Pics!

Here’s your first look at Uma Thurman as Marilyn Monroe during a five-episode TV arc on NBC’s Smash.

The 41-year-old actress will be playing Hollywood starlet Rebecca Duvall as Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway musical, according to THR.

Executive producers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman penned a song, “Dig Deep,” specifically for Uma, who was pregnant during production. The tune is a tribute to “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” — a Cole Porter song Marilyn performed in 1960′s Let’s Make Love. She’ll also be performing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”

Tune into Smash, which airs Mondays at 10PM ET/PT on NBC. Watch a preview clip of Uma as Marilyn below!

Uma as Marilyn? Must be the casting director who who thought Lindsay Lohan makes a great Liz Taylor.. sigh

  • Crisy21

    Just wrong!!
As much as I like Marilyn & her legacy. Don’t people think it’s about time we let her ‘Rest In Peace.’ Enough trying to recreate her already. It Would never happen.
The original would ALWAYS be better.

  • Zinia

she’s just ugly. she can’t loot to Marilyn.

  • danielik25

Why Uma as Marylin? She is absolutely different type of woman like Marylin…

  • wandalismus

obviously nobody gets the point of this casting. It’s supposed to be a obvious miscast and show how big names in hollywood and such are used to draw the crowd in to “bad” musicals

  • Adam

It’s actually for a tv show. Can you guys watch the show first before giving such comments?

I actually met Uma …shes more gorgeous in kind and generous..Whats so wrong to do a movie about Marilyn…Shes an icon..

  • wandalismus

she’s not doing a movie about marilyn – she has a guest spot on the NBC series smash! people should learn to read the articles, not just the headlines

  • lala

she would be a great marlene dietrich…doesnt look guite right as marilyn, but she would be an amazing marlene

  • Aimee

Incredibly poor casting! Will skip the episodes when she is “singing”.

  • icefire

@wandalismus agree, Uma being “not so good” must be the reason Karen or Ivy get to be leading lady

Uma Thurman is a beautiful talented woman. Marilyn was a talentless cheap skank who slept with anyone who’d pay her a dollar. It’s time to let the hoe RIP.

  • Me

I Love Uma, she looks gorgeous, she’s so talented!

It’s nice to see her, but Uma Thurman is too different and rather old to play Marilyn, or an actress playing Marilyn. I mean, I don’t think she’s too old, but the characters should. When they were naming possible actress names, Derek reacted scoffingly to Kate Winslet’s age with “in her dreams”—but she’s close enough to pull it off (same age as Marilyn when she died, and looks it or younger). Uma Thurman aint! She’s five years older than Marilyn was when she died, and while she looks good, she has a totally different look than Marilyn. She’s tall, statuesque, and although she’s got curves they’re sturdier-shouldered and just different than Marilyn. Like the other commenter here, I’ve also met her in person, and while she’s gorgeous, you have to admit her beauty is nothing like Marilyn’s and more importantly, Uma is ginormously tall! She’s all in proportion, but she looks like a tree. Ivy has a good figure for the part, but unfortunately she needs a different jaw. Katharine McPhee is totally wrong. But Uma Thurman may be worse. Maybe as Marlene Dietrich, but she’s just not Marilyn. As for the commenter who said she’s a purposeful miscast, it never seems like Broadway miscasts that crazily to me.

Uma sort of reminds of both Christina and Madonna here.
