Robert Pattinson: 'Cosmopolis' Cannes Premiere!

Robert Pattinson and co-star Juliette Binoche arrive at the Cosmopolis premiere during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival on Friday (May 25) at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.

Cast members Sarah Gadon, Paul Giamatti, Emily Hampshire, and the film’s director, David Cronenberg, also walked the red carpet after promoting the drama at a photo call earlier in the day.

Robert Pattinson, pale and predatory even without his pasty-white vampire makeup, delivers his frigid pensées with rhythmic confidence, but he’s not playing a character, he’s playing an abstraction – the gazillionaire bad-boy hotshot who flies too close to the sun, but he likes it up there, so f— you!” notes EW‘s review.

# 8

@Black-Dahlia: am all for nicol and john cusack, but casting matthew mcconaughey and zac efron was a big mistake they were terribile, the scene between nicole and zac where painful to watch because of zac overdoing and overacting every scene ,god bless him he tried but his acting skills did not match the challenge, and matthew dont let me go there.

LOVED that EW review! Yes f-ck you haters indeed. Thanks for putting this review up Jared!

Rob Pattinson is getting great reviews at Cannes Who knew? Well congrats to the man and Cronenberg is back

So after the screening for this movie, apparently Martin Scorsese and David Cronenberg signed him on right away for 3 movies.

Cheers for Rob!!! well deserved the rave reviews, He’s one of the most humble & talented young actor. Can’t wait for seen Cosmopolis…

Great reviews?
Cosmopolis – “among the worst films I’ve seen here this year. I’ve never been this disappointed in a David Cronenberg film”
“the actors deliver their lines with a mannered lack of expression”
“Sadly not everyone is loving Rob’s performance in Cosmopolis”
“Pattinson doesn’t help matters by revealing nothing behind the eyes and delivering nearly all his lines with the same rhythm and intonations, plus repetitive head nods in the bargain. It’s a tough character that perhaps a young Jeremy Irons could have made riveting, but Pattinson is too bland and monotonous to hold the interest.”
“Lifeless, stagey and lacking a palpable subversive pulse despite the ready opportunities offered by the material, this stillborn adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel initially will attract some Robert Pattinson fans but will be widely met with audience indifference.”
Yeah.
Those are great.

Yeah, good reviews @ 05/26/2012 at 7:49 am

Robert Pattinson is magnetic as Eric Packer… his best performance to date by some considerable margin.

Pattinson nails a difficult part almost perfectly

Hats off to Robert Pattinson’s performance, who’s really good.

Eric is a controlled and controlling figure, a man impervious to society’s norms who one must feel has a mind operating well beyond the capacities of mere mortals. He’s utterly humorless and without detectable compassion or accessible humanity, which makes him less than companionable as a character. Pattinson doesn’t help matters by revealing nothing behind the eyes

Eric Packer (a surprisingly adequate Robert Pattinson)

Pattinson, giving a commanding, sympathetic portrait

the film is anchored by a solid, ennui-filled performance by Robert Pattinson

Great work from Robert Pattinson

his cold performance is nearly flawless.

Pattinson was great. Really powerful

Pattinson is steely cool, he + Paul Giamatti have a great rapport.

Robert Pattinson a good fit

a steely, sinuous turn from Pattinson

Pattinson excellent

Robert Pattinson’s best performance to date

Robert Pattinson is the best thing about this, his quiet intensity a perfect match for Cronenberg’s cerebral world

Pattinson (a terrific performance that shows his acting chops),

Pattinson surprisingly strong

Robert Pattinson shines in the new Cronenberg film…. Robert Pattinson is amazing – he shines through the costume of a weird and grotesque role, he embodies difficult philosophical and political ideas, and he becomes an excellent vehicle for analyzing and understanding them… The man who ultimately impresses is Pattinson.

Pattinson’s compelling screen presence

he’s fantastic in Cosmopolis.

RPatz was that good

RPatz nailed the part

To play Eric Packer, Cronenberg chose Robert Pattinson, a genius stroke on both sides. The young star goes from Twilight to Cosmopolis at the speed of light, with an incredible ease, and plays wonderfully this mixture of youth and cruelty, desire and death, this sick pursuit of winning at any cost, bordering on the morbid pathology which illuminates this film and symbolizes our times.

Pattinson holds his own

Robert Pattinson’s excellent performance… It’s the actor’s strongest screen performance and certainly his most substantial.

Robert Pattinson’s Eric Packer solidifies what some critics have suspected for a while now: the dude is more than a perfectly-chiseled face.

the film’s true driving force (excuse the pun) is Pattinson’s utterly fearless, audacious and sizzling performance… Pattinson’s darkly comic and distressingly real performance here embodies everything Cosmopolis desires to express; he whispers and scuttles but his manners and aura leave a deafening echo hanging in the tainted, dystopian atmosphere.

the whole movie is carried by the revelation of Robert Pattinson, masterly, who shows himself able to carry such a strong movie on his young shoulders. He is amazing, and confirms that some talents can only be revealed by great directors.

The real trick of this one lies in Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Eric Packer. ..you start to get a picture of just how difficult a role this was for Pattinson… he makes an unlikable character likable.

Robert Pattinson’s performance extraordinary

Pattinson brilliant.

Great Performance from Pattinson

@yeah, good reviews im in love with u right now! and im so proud of rpattz! one message to the haters though- this isnt the place for you!plz go away!
