Zooey Deschanel: 'I’ve Always Felt Like An Outsider'

Zooey Deschanel is all smiles on the cover of Cosmopolitan UK‘s July 2012 issue, on newsstands now.

Here’s what the 32-year-old New Girl actress had to share with the mag:

On feeling like an outsider: “I’ve always felt like an outsider and I still do when I go to fancy events. I still sit there and think, ‘I don’t belong here.’ I feel like a kid at the adults’ table – like I’m an outsider who got let inside somehow. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just that I see everything differently. I take all the glitz and glamor of this business with a large grain of salt. I feel very removed from it. Not in a bad way – it’s cool – I just don’t feel a part of it.”

On being comfortable with who she is: “I’m not shy. I have a strange sort of combination of awkwardness and confidence. I’m actually OK with awkward moments. But it’s not because I think I’m so great. I’m confident in things other than, like, my ‘swagger’. I’m confident in my sense of humor. I’m comfortable in my skin.”

On her personal style: “I don’t really have any rules but I do believe in wearing stuff that flatters my shape. I have an old-fashioned body because I’m small, and I have a little waist but I have hips – I’m not like straight up and down. Things with shape look best on me; that’s why I love vintage dresses… I don’t like to limit myself. Anything that I would love to wear, I wear!”

Is she on drugs? Her interview didn’t make any sense. She contradicts herself so much. Oh, and pretending to be socially awkward and “an outsider” won’t win you fans.

Grow up, you’re 30 something years old, you’re not a little girl anymore.
I cringe everytime I see her do her “girly act”. “I feel like a kid at the adults table” *pukes* it’s just embarrassing for a grown woman to act and dress like that, looks so off too.

Everyone thinks they’re unique, like we’re somehow bigger than the games we play. At the end of the day there are few if any snowflakes that stand out in the storm.

she trys too much beeing that awkward cute girl. i mean what she is actually saying is that she is special and therefor valuable. but at the end everybody is special and valuable.

@mike: I totally agree with you. She tries to be that awkward, different girl. I think naturally she fits in pretty well!

She’s cute and a cottage industry unto herself but omg so unwatchable. Too try-hard quirky.

@A: i agree. I use to love her but then after all the interviews and her childish personality it makes me uncomfortable to even watch her show. shes an adult who acts 12. And im so over the whole ‘i feel like an outside crap’.. everyone does at least a thousand times in their life.
