ALTINOZU, Turkey – U.N. envoy Angelina Jolie traveled to Turkey’s border with Syria on Friday to meet some of the thousands of Syrian refugees who have fled their government’s bloody crackdown on dissent.

The Hollywood celebrity and goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees arrived in the Turkish province of Hatay on a private jet with boxes of toys for the refugee camps.

There are nearly 10,000 Syrian refugees in camps inside Turkey.

DHA television showed Jolie disembarking from the plane in sunglasses. The actress rested at Hatay airport and then headed to a camp in the Turkish town of Altinozu, Turkish media reported.

Turkish authorities hoisted a 45-foot-long banner near the entrance of a refugee camp to welcome Jolie. It read: “Goodness Angel of the World, Welcome” in English and Turkish.

Police kept fans away from the actress at Hatay’s airport and cameras were removed from rooftops and high points to prevent video of the visit.

One fan held a poster that read: “Angelina, kiss me for world peace.”

Authorities said Jolie’s own crew would provide images of her meetings with refugees.

In April, Jolie traveled to Tunisia during its refugee crisis as thousands fled from its war-torn neighbor, Libya.

Oh for God’s sake. The kids have a home. They have spend a great deal of time in LA at their HOME and in France at their HOME. The kids, if you bother to follow the family, do a combo of home schooled and selected specialty schools. They certainly seem very well adjusted. If you bother to look you’ll find most restaurants and shop keepers talk about how well mannered they are and not at all spoiled. I’ve known a lot of people who have home schooled their kids and these kids have turned out just fine. And I’ve known many people who have traveled extensively with their kids like the JP’s and these kids have turned out to be exceptional in their knowledge of the world, their communication and critical thinking skills and their maturity levels.

LAGO AGRIO, Ecuador, April 23 (UNHCR) – Angelina Jolie, making her third trip to meet Colombian refugees in Ecuador, has called on the government to keep an open asylum policy and maintain its tradition of helping vulnerable people in need.

She said that “as the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Cartagena Declaration nears, it is time to celebrate the resilience of the displaced people in the region and renew our commitment to laws and policies that offer them protection, safety and a chance for a dignified life.” The Cartagena Declaration broadened the refugee definition used in Latin America and offered a new approach to refugee protection and solutions in the region.

Jolie’s call came at the weekend, during her first field visit as Special Envoy of High Commissioner António Guterres. She was in Ecuador to assess the situation in urban and rural areas for refugees from Colombia, where almost 50 years of conflict have also left some 4 million people internally displaced.

The Special Envoy met Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño on Sunday to discuss the protection situation for refugees in Ecuador. Speaking on behalf of UNHCR, she urged the minister to ensure that the Ecuador government maintains its long history of protecting refugees and that people in need of protection can access their rights. They also spoke of obstacles to the implementation of the existing refugee legislation.

Ecuador hosts 56,000 refugees and 21,000 asylum-seekers and receives 1,300 new applications for protection each month from people fleeing neighbouring Colombia’s continuing violence. Many live in the remote and poor northern areas of the country close to the border.

Jolie’s two-day visit began last Saturday in Lago Agrio, capital of Sucumbios province in the north of the country. She visited the oil town’s San Valentin neighbourhood, where more than 60 per cent of the community are refugees living in extreme poverty; some rent houses on land contaminated by a nearby oil well. The broader community is also affected by oil pollution.

In San Valentin, she met young Colombian refugees and Ecuadoreans who were part of a youth group supported by UNHCR. They told her about their tough lives in an area where the young are often targets for recruitment by armed groups and traffickers.

“These young people are so impressive. I was really moved by their determination to improve their community and take it into their own hands,” Jolie said. She discussed the situation of the youth of the area with Lago Agrio’s Mayor Yofre Poma, who runs a series of school programmes aimed at instilling a sense of responsibility in young people and easing the integration of refugees, who comprise 13 per cent of the town’s population.

“Through these programmes the mayor is keeping the culture of tolerance for vulnerable families who have suffered so much violence,” Jolie said.

The Special Envoy also visited on Sunday two remote riverside refugee communities in the border area north of Lago Agrio. She returned after two years to the hamlet of Barranca Bermeja on the San Miguel River and met members of the local women’s association, which receives UNHCR support.

The refugees spoke about the need to improve access, telling Jolie that under current government regulations they must travel to Lago Agrio in person to renew their refugee documentation. In the absence of a public bus service and good road, this can cost a month’s salary – a huge burden.

Refugees in the border areas received their first official identity documents in a registration drive between 2008 and 2010. These have proved critical in regularizing the stay of refugees and helping them to access their rights. But they now face challenges renewing their documents because the government has cut back on the number and operations of mobile registration teams.

Jolie also visited the Providencia community of 24 Afro-Colombian refugee families, some two hours west of Barranca Bermeja by boat. The settlement was established in 1994 by Colombian refugees, but received no outside help until 2008, when UNHCR turned up.

“It is extraordinary that these people were on their own for 14 years,” the Special Envoy said. Since making contact with UNHCR, the refugees have been registered and a primary school has been built, but many challenges remain.

“We really feel the isolation; it is really tough,” said Plinio, the community president, Providencia can only be reached by hiring a boat, which can take up to three hours to reach from the nearest road and another two hours to town. Refugees struggle with the need to travel to Lago Agrio frequently, given the obstacles they face in renewing their refugee documents. They also struggle to attend to their medical and other basic needs because of their isolation.

Despite the hardships in Providencia, Jolie found the people inspiring. “There is an amazing teacher who is so devoted to his students that he has left Lago Agrio to live in this remote place and teach the refugees, who for the first time have access to education, who have a future,”

The envoy said she was grateful to this teacher and the many other people who have given assistance to these vulnerable families. “Without finding safety in Ecuador, they would most likely not be alive,” she said. “Nobody wants to be a refugee, to have to leave their home. Nobody wants to live on borrowed land and to have to beg for a visa every year and not be able to know what their life or their children´s life will be, or whether they can access any jobs or obtain medical help.”

She stressed that it was “very important that UNHCR and the government come here and give assistance. But it is also important that we help the local people understand what it is to be a refugee, what they’ve come from, what they’ve survived, what their intentions are. And their intentions are simply that they want to be safe and to have a decent life for their family.”

Jolie was appointed as Special Envoy of High Commissioner António Guterres earlier this month.

Angelina Jolie’s humanitarian work is no surprise to many. What is a surprise is the media coverage her recent visit as a UN envoy received and the positive impact it has had.

For a change, Brangelina’s visit to the Galapagos Islands was not the focus of media attention, but rather, Jolie’s visit to the Ecuador-Colombian border grabbed headlines.

After touring the Galapagos with her family, Angelina stayed on the mainland for her third visit with UNHCR to the Northern Ecuador area. And, her visit had an immediate impact on the country’s refugees.

For background, most refugees living in Ecuador, who have fled conflict from Columbia, live in extreme poverty in urban areas. Ecuador has made some strides in recent years to create more favorable conditions, but there is still a long road ahead.

Yet, immediately upon Jolie’s visit to the country, the Ecuadorian Foreign Affairs office began working a mile minute, and put a priority on refugee issue in Ecuador.

Having a figure like Jolie at the forefront of the effort to improve the situation of Ecuadorian refugees has brought a powerful, media-friendly ally to fight an acute issue that both the international community and Ecuadorian Society tend to ignore. Only those working in the human rights field know what over 54,500 officially recognized refugees (there may be many more) go through on a daily basis in Ecuador.

According to UNHCR, Ecuador has the largest refugee population in Latin America.

Jolie’s constant presence holds the country’s agencies more accountable and puts pressure on local authorities to prioritize this issue.

This represents her first trip as a Special envoy for the refugee agency, thus formally taking part in a more diplomatic role, engaging in advocacy, and dealing with key actors. Jolie knows very well what she’s doing and the impact she can have, in media and political affairs.

Jolie’s first two visits to Ecuador were low key, reported at most by one or two local magazines. Let’s just hope Jolie’s visit to the country become routine.

An issue which has been highly neglected by media when it should be a priority has found in Jolie, its strongest partner.

Director of the Foundation explained the importance of creating the legal prerequisites that would help cleaning the mine affected areas and using them as agricultural land for organic farming, because for decades, the land has not been treated with anything, the land is ‘healthy’.
– It is interesting that Angelina is very familiar with the situation in Croatia, and is particularly interested in the area of ??Eastern Slavonia, Vukovar, and wants to help. HOLLYWOOD A-lister Brad Pitt caused a stir in Birmingham when he paid a secret visit to see an old friend at a Hall Green legal practice.

The Fight Club star turned up out of the blue at Warwick Solicitors, Stratford Road, to catch up with Mohammed Hussain, the firm’s owner, who also counts Mike Tyson, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and boxing legend Joe Egan as personal friends.

Dad-of-one Mr Hussain, 42, first became acquainted with Pitt when working as part of the security entourage on Guy Ritchie film Snatch, where the two quickly became friends.

“He’s a lovely guy,” said the solicitor, “one of the most humble men you could meet.

“Brad and Angelina are in the UK for the next 18 months filming back-to-back.

“He loves Britain and he’s been in Harrod’s every other day shopping for the kids.

“It was a surprise (he came), it was out of the blue.

“The last time I saw him was in Cannes a couple of years ago.

“We don’t publicise things like this. It’s a friendship thing more than anything.”

Mr Hussain said Pitt was in the office for around 20 minutes and posed with staff for a group photograph.

An eye-witness to the visit, who asked not to be named, said he was shocked when he saw Pitt emerge from a luxury car flanked by half-a-dozen minders.

“I’d just finished work and thought ‘bloody hell I don’t believe this,” he said.

“You don’t expect to see Brad Pitt in Hall Green.”

Despite the unexpected appearance, Mr Hussain said his friendship with Pitt, and other celebrities, didn’t phase him and that it was possible to be friends with anyone.

Heavyweight boxing legend ‘Big’ Joe Egan, is also a client of Mr Hussain’s, but said the solicitor was more of a friend.

He told The Birmingham Mail: “I wish I had Mo in my corner when I was still in the ring, he’s been in my corner so many times out of it.

“He’s a fantastic guy.

“He doesn’t get phased by the fact they are celebrities, they are friends first and foremost.”

Mr Hussain’s son Reece, 12, also keeps a level head when meeting his father’s celebrity friends and clients such as England’s Ashes heroes Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss.

The youngster said: “It’s really good to meet all these famous people.”

It could be, but the UK isn’t the only place The Gray Man is supposed to shoot. That’s why I questioned it. Brad rarely shows his hand early about his work plans these days. It’s already secured tax credits in the Czech Republic and a few months ago there was a story saying they were working on building sets or something in Israel. Here’s one story I saved about hotel rooms supposedly having already been booked. Plans do change though and movies fall through all the time -

In August reports came out that Brad Pitt has signed on to star in “The Gray Man”, a film adaptation of the hit Mark Greaney novel about a talented assassin who has become the target of a multi-national man hunt.

Reports are now coming out that Pitt will need to spend at least a month in Israel shooting scenes for the film, and that Angelina Jolie and their children will likely join as well.

Several hotels in Israel have already been contacted to reserve 50 rooms for Pitt and his crew.

During a visit to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to promote her directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” earlier this year, Jolie was asked about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and if she plans on visiting Israel.

“Israel and Palestine; I have not spent time there. I would like to spend more time…There’s no good reason I haven’t been.” said Jolie.

This should be her first opportunity to visit the Holy Land. Let’s hope it leaves her with a good impression, and that the paparazzi will be a little friendlier than they were to Justin Bieber

Then, why are all the other multi million dollars stars not making a contribution and getting a tax write off?, I’m looking at you JA, aka, Dirtbag. Also, look at the Jolie Pitt foundation, JPF, Brad and Angie put their own money into their foundation. all the money from Shi and the twins all went into that fund, that’s not a tax write off. They could have pocketed those millions, maybe 10-12 mil in their pocket, but they put it to good use by helping others. I see JS, JLo, ect pocket their money from selling their baby’s photos, no one calls them out, no one asking them what are they doing with their money.
There is always a different standards that Brad and Angie have to live

“The people in this camp have fled in fear for their lives, and many told me they were distraught about the safety of loved ones still in Syria,” Jolie said in a UNHCR statement.

Jolie met with one woman who managed to leave Syria heavily pregnant, and has since given birth to her child in the camp, the statement said. She told how her husband had been killed. Another distraught woman told Jolie how she was sick with worry about the fate of her husband still in Syria and unable to cross the border.

“I appreciate the opportunity to visit this camp and talk to these families,” Jolie said. “It is a really complex situation and everyone needs to be doing all they can for the innocent families caught in the crossfire. I will be following this situation very closely and doing everything I can.”

Jolie praised Turkey for showing “tremendous generosity to the thousands fleeing Syria” and the Turkish Red Crescent, the Muslim equivalent of the Red Cross, for setting up camps very quickly and providing medical and other care.

The UNHCR said it “stands ready to assist if the situation starts to escalate.”

Protests first erupted in Syria in mid-March as part of the “Arab Spring” push toward democracy. Syrian President Bashar Assad responded by unleashing the military to crush the street demonstrations. Human rights activists say more than 1,400 Syrians have been killed and 10,000 detained.

I am laughing at the notion that Barry Diller – the BILLIONAIRE who made almost $500 million back in 2006 alone – and who is responsible for the existence of Fox News doesn’t know how to get publicity for his foundation and donations. That news was all over the media primarily NYC media since it was a very local cause.

For the most part his and DvF’s foundation distribute small grants usually under $25,000. They do give bigger grants to conservancy however, e.g. Central Park, the High Line park. He has been giving big grants to the High Line for a few years and this recent donation is a commitment to future giving for maintenance since the foudnaiton has nowhere near this much money in it. Trust me that will be called the Diller Line or the Diller Park one day. THAT is what would make Barry Diller happy – have a whole park named after him in NYC.

What you want to do is to donate a substantial sum to get attention to the organization or cause and attract other donors. A large donation usually by a respected foundation makes other big donors trust the recipient and be more willing to contribute in kind.
