Carrie Underwood Responds to Gay Marriage Backlash

Carrie Underwood hits the stage at Royal Albert Hall on Thursday (June 21) in London, England.

“What an incredible night! Thank you all for being so wonderful at the @RoyalAlbertHall! I can’t wait to come back!” the 29-year-old country star tweeted after performing her first show in the UK.

Carrie recently chatted with the Associated Press about the backlash she’s received since publicly voicing support for gay marriage.

“I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do and I love making music and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy,” she shared.

“The role-model word is really scary to me, because no matter what happens in your life, something you do, wear, say, sing, whatever – somebody somewhere is probably not going to like it too well,” Carrie added. “I just really try hard to do what I do and try to be nice to people and make great music and if people think they can look up to that, that’s wonderful. If not, that’s OK too.”

I’m getting sick of this gay marriage crap. Homosexuals if you want to get married keep it in your GLBT community and stop disturbing the public.

Honey, don’t apologize for voicing your opinion. You gave an answer to a direct question. Hopefully you were honest about how you feel, if you were then there’s no need to regret it just ’cause people disagree.

I don’t think she did or say anything wrong. She’s being truth to what she believes, if she supports gay marriage as respect people as they are good for her, I support her for doing so.

# 4

Personally, I don’t really understand why ANYONE wants to get married but whatever. Do what you like, I don’t care.

# 5

@somali girl: But how exactly is it disturbing to the public? Why is it so provocative to you if some people want to get married? What’s it got to do with you?

# 6

I read what she said and as always they made it into what they wanted. She believes in human rights as we all should. She didn’t specifically say anything about gay marriage rights. People are looking for whatever they want to take things out of context.

Cute pictures! Thanks for posting them Jared.

I think Carrie’s doing a great job handling the questions about her views on gay marriage. She answered the question once honestly and made it clear she’s a believer in equality and non-judgment, and she’s not looking to shove her opinion down anybody’s throat by dwelling on it.

I like her answer. She said nothing wrong. She didn’t even mention gay marriage. Doesn’t meant she agrees with but that they are people too. I think she did the right thing. Definitely gets points in my book!!!

Nope I disagree with homosexuality and if that makes me a homophobic so be it. I dislike apples does that make me applePHOBE? Like I said they need to keep this in the GLBT community.

@somali girl: no it just makes you sound stupid.go back to Somalia.figures you are from a place like that

BullockGlen @ 06/22/2012 at 4:02 pm

what Heather replied I’m stunned that anyone can make $6455 in 1 month on the computer. have you read this website(Click on menu Home more information) http://goo.gl/mkBc5

how can you compare an liking an apple to a person’s rights?? did you really say that??

Just another way to get publicity. Did she ever think of no comment!

Well for all those who dislike equal rights for gay people you better look for a new place to live. No way to stop the equal rights train now. No how no way.

@ somali girl: Please crawl back into the cave you’ve come from and take your nonsensical comparisons with you! Bye bye :-)!

somali girl @ 06/22/2012 at 6:15 pm

That train you speak of will sink faster than the Titanic lol. They can have all the rights they want but nobody is going to take their “marriage” serious. Its a joke, let’s keep the homos happy and fulfill their delusions.

@ somali girl: You’ve been brainwashed by the society you live in and haven’t even noticed yet, you spew hatred all the time and obviously you aren’t a supporter of human rights… Now who’s the pathetic delusional one here :-D??

@somali girl:

Go back to Somalia you pirate!

somali girl @ 06/22/2012 at 7:02 pm

How did human rights become gay rights? Gays already have freedom to do whatever they want (in their community). Get married
but let it be known its not serious. Its a comedy of a wedding which I will enjoy.

somali girl @ 06/22/2012 at 7:03 pm

Wedding >>> marriage

@somali girl: we all humans, if you me or they don’t do anything wrong like kill something like that all need the same rights in his community ?¡ really ?¿ we live around the world as they, we are talking about marriage becouse when they get married, they don’t have the same rigths…

I’m glad Carrie didn’t apologize for saying what she did. Being from the Bible Belt I can see where she might get backlash, and I’m glad she stuck with her original statement. She’s right, too – it doesn’t matter what you do, someone somewhere won’t like it.
