And we don’t have “WET” (White Entertainment Television Awards) because?

Liz you sound… unfortunately stupid. AND uneducated. BET was formed along time ago where there wasn’t really a channel to show African American shows and music videos….only the very few made to MTV like Micheal Jackson. AND I think white entertainment is pretty everywhere, so you have nothing to worry about. AND WET sounds very stupid.

I kinda get Liz’s point. Like dd said, BET was formed along time ago and she did a wonderful job explaining its purpose, however, I was rather surprised that for a celebration of African American shows how few whites were present. That also is true in the actual African American shows. The white shows always had to have a black “token” person, couple, family, but black shows don’t seem to have the same standard. My point is this, aren’t we supposed to integrate our cultures. It seems once African Americans dominate an industry they seem to exclude every other race. Now mind you, I am stupid about the BET awards. Not sure if the exclusion of whites or any other race is the producers of BET fault or whites excluding themselves. But like Rodney King said, “Can’t we all get along”. Let’s celebrate African American Artistry among AA, but let’s not forget that actors of other races helped in the contribution. I didn’t see that in the BET celebrations this year.

you'll never get it @ 07/02/2012 at 1:13 pm

@Liz:

BECAUSE white people have everything else…

and when they don’t have enough they borrow from other cultures, support their own and continue to marginalize the very cultures they’ve “borrowed” from.

it’s why you’re listening to Adele and not Lauryn Hill/Etta James/Jill Scott who Adele would probably count as some of her influences.

It’s why you get excited when Joss Stone/Amy Winehouse sings and act like you’ve NEVER heard anything like that before in your life!

Probably because you haven’t. Those artists have. They give respect to the music they’ve enjoyed but a certain section of their audience can’t bring themselves to give credit to the right people.

this is why we “can’t all get along”. and why you would’ve stopped reading and thinking about this a few lines up.

I hope you do think about it.

Self awareness is the way to enlightenment.

@Reginald: The BET network is owned by white people. Every network is dedicated to showing the humanity of white people while portraying Black people horribly. They can’t even have one network. This is not greed, it is sociopathy.

Hispanics have the Alma Awards and the awful Latin Grammys which are a joke and a consoloation prize. Besides, the Hispanics don’t deserve to be in America they didn’t build this country they are now trying to steal it.
