'The Amazing Spider-Man' Grosses $140 Million!

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone‘s The Amazing Spider-Man has slung its way to the top spot in this weekend’s box office!

The action flick brought in a total of $140 million domestically over its six-day opening weekend, and $341.2 million worldwide, according to THR.

“What a spectacular relaunch,” Sony president of distribution Rory Bruer said. “There are so many facets of this movie that are compelling, including the chemistry between Andrew and Emma and the out-of-the-box direction of Marc Webb.”

The flick made $65 million since Friday, but still did not surpass the opening number’s of Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man 2, which opened the same weekend back in 2004.

Last week’s number one flick, Mark Wahlberg and Mila KunisTed, came in at number two with $32.5 million. Brave came in at number three with $20.1 million.

Taylor Kitsch and Blake Lively‘s Savages brought in $16.1 million for its opening weekend debut, placing it in the number four spot, with Channing Tatum‘s Magic Mike falling from the number two spot to number five this weekend with $15.6 million.

Katy Perry‘s 3-D concert documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me did not fare as well at the box office, bringing in $10.3 million since its opening this past Thursday.

I liked Andrew Garfield in the Social Network but did not enjoy watching him as Spider Man. I think Tobey Maguire was more believable. Garfield’s version of Spider Man was a bit too cocky obnoxious.

This numbers is a shame. So much hunger around the world, so many poverty and people insist investing and spending so much money in futile things. Why a rebot, if the 3 other Spider- Man movies was so great and famous? Tobey and Kristen was fabulous and charismatic. Why spending time doing and watching a teenager version of a classic? I will never underst it.

You people are ridiculous, do you really think that instead of paying for a Spiderman ticket, people would donate that exact amount to “end world hunger?” Unfortunately, society doesn’t work that way.

I personally found this version of Spiderman to be much grittier and truer to the comic series. Garfield and Stone are both great onscreen, I’m happy for the success of this film.

@Anne: BAD ACTORS?? Off course they’re! Andrew did NOT win a BAFTA and he was NOT nominated for a golden globe and he was NOT nominated for a Tony award and Emma was NOT nominated for a golden globe. Yeahh you’re right they are such a BAAAAD actors.

@hanna: I agree with you! Andrew is one of the finest actors our generation. I saw DOAS twice in its limited run. He moved the entire audience to tears. Personally, I thought he was WAY better than PSH. He’s also the sweetest actor I’ve met. I think he is a better Spider-Man than Tobey. I loved Tobey and the Spider-Man trilogy but I think Andrew was born to play Spidey. Andrew’s passion for the character came across well on screen, whereas I feel Tobey just took the role for a paycheck.
