Willow Smith: People Can't Shape What's In My Heart & Soul!

Willow Smith: People Can't Shape What's In My Heart & Soul!

Willow Smith chats on the phone as she enters her hotel on Thursday (May 19) in Miami, Fla.

The 11-year-old entertainer was joined by her mom Jada Pinkett-Smith. The duo spent the afternoon out together!

Willow recently chatted about the scrutiny she faces for her individualism.

“Grown ups [have] children and they say ‘you can be whatever you want to be.’ And then they go on my Instagram and comment, ‘How can your parents let you go out looking like that?’ Telling me that I can’t do what I want to do. When I’m someone’s child,” Willow told MTV. “You’re telling your kid they can be this but telling me I can’t be that.”

“The thing is that if I know what’s true in my heart and my soul, then what people say can’t shape that,” Willow added.

Wow. Grown adults just got treated by an 11-year-old.
I’m questioning why adults are on a child’s instagram to begin with…

  • Nina

Entitled brat. TELL THAT to other 11 year old kids that are going hungry tonight while you’re giving an interview to MTV!

  • Cupcake

    She’s disgusting.
The ugliest child I’ve ever seen.

  • doodle

Anyway… How can your parents let you go out looking like that?

  • tre

she looks like a flamer boy

  • Peapo

No offense to her, but Willow Smith is 11 years old. Shouldn’t she be in Just Jared Jr.? She really doesn’t belong here.

  • Liz

What a lovely and well spoken young lady. You ignorant sad-sacks could learn a lot from her.

  • Trish

    Is she anorexic?

  • hahaha

Being something and doing something are two different things. I thought an 11 year old would know the difference between a noun and a verb.

  • notyourfriend

    You tell them Willow!!!

  • Isha

@hahaha: Willow’s comments are interesting, or have I been clueless all this time. Although her hair cut could be a culture trend, but when you add it to the way she dresses…no disrespect to her and her preference, but could she have possibly just came-out?

  • Isha

@haha I did not mean to reply to your comment. Sorry

    umm .. excuse me …

go live in La La Land … where u belong …

  • Kate

    Oh Willow,

The phrase goes “you can be whatever you want to be WHEN YOU GROW UP.” Until then, it is the responsibility and duty of your parents to protect you and your childhood, and raise you well. Nice try there. You even remind me a little of myself at that age… A Bit of a smart***! I applaud that. But in the end, you are an eleven year old child. And while I hope you continue to think for yourself, don’t ask for trouble. Hollywood is a dangerous world.

    Good Luck, Kid.

  • Reginal

So when is that skinny black boy coming out of the closest. I can’t wait to see the look on Will’s face.

  • Adele

    Dear Jared,

I dont care what an 11 year old thinks

  • Tami

Its sad that the little girl is smarter than most of you. Who really sits behind a computer bashing an 11 year old girl? What adults do that? That is a smart kid . She’s 100% right and some of you are just jerks. That’s s kid, get a grip!

  • Tami

@Jasmine: People are jerks and have to lives obviously . It’s sad, but she has a good head on her shoulders! Thank goodness!

  • A

She’s right….and adults, stop being jealous of a child, she’s a child! It’s really disturbing how some comments coming from grown ups reek of jealousy, that’s not healthy. Seriously.

“The thing is that if I know what’s true in my heart and my soul, then what people say can’t shape that,”

She didn’t say that she doesn’t receive guidance from her parents; nor that she doesn’t listen to her parents.

You would think adults (I assume most of you are) would applaud or at the very least support that statement, especially with all news reports of children being bullied.

But at last, we live in a backwards society, where the opposite is encouraged/supported and Willow’s show of strength (of not being bullied) is mocked, ridiculed and twisted.

  • Reese

Bullying at its best. Shame on you adults.

  • Emm

Well, i think she looks cool. It’s her ATTITUDE I have a problem with. Both she and her brother act like they’re better than everyone else and like they know everything. Someone should tell them it’s possible to be yourself all the way and still be a nice, humble human being. Stop being so defensive.

  • Brit

I don’t think she is stuck up at all. It just trips people to see a little black girl who is confident with herself. Yeah I get celebrities are picked on all the time . But the stuff people say about her it’s like hello do you know that an 11 year old child. She’s a baby. It is downright bullying. And no one them who ever say it to Will or Jada’s faces . Why torment a little girl because what she cut her hair and has her own style? I’m sick of hearin she’s a lesbian , she’s going to have a sex change. This that. She’s 11 years old. If you have nothing nice to say leave that kid alone . It’s sad an 11 year old has to defend herself like that but I seriously commend her parents. She does seem really well rounded to me and very confident . Some adults arent even like that . So go Willow *End of Rant*

  • A

    @Brit: I agree with you 100%.
Nothing more to ad. You said it all and more. I hope these adults read it and learn.

  • Isha

I don’t think that bullying an is 11 year old is acceptable regardless of the age of the person who is doing the bullying. However, Willow Smith is not the first child entertainer and I am sure that her parents (actors themselves who started in the business at young ages also) knew what was in-store for their daughter when they allowed her to enter the business. It appears to me that Willow has the freedom to say and do as she wish. That can be a good thing if it’s done with careful guidance. I checked out Willow’s Instagram site and I could see what could possibly be some underline issues. I’m no psychologist, but it’s one of those thing that come out when they begin acting out like Lindsay Lohan and other, then it too late!

A kid her age cannot have the kind of reflection that she has in this article. She is a very superficial (scientology) product. Not exactly with an inner reflection of how someone is, just because of that scientology.

$$$ and success is all they believe in, and controlling and brainwashing people, while they feel superior to others. That is shown in this article.

    1. She should never be mentionned again on this JJ. She is a child.
    2. She is a product of her parents hunger for attention.

I am not interested, just a bit irritated that news about this kid is pushed down our throat.

  • Isha

@Bool Ships: I agree, it could definitely be Scientology behind her behavior along with poor parenting or the lack there of. No one parent is perfect, but when you see the signs and try to correct your mistakes is what make you a better parent. I was refreshing to see Katie Holmes wised-up, took her child and ran before it too much damage was done. Everyone want’s to keep their head-in-the-sand.

  • jojo

When I see Willow, I think of her as doing what most little girls and some boys do. She is simply playing dressup. I think its cute and fashionable at times. She dresses better that Lady GAGA. I like her style and positive attitude. She wears different hair, different colors, mixmatched clothes and she is just having fun. only difference is her family status affords her to be able to do this outside of playtime!!

  • Adora

    Most annoying kid ever.

  • Jasmine

@Emm: She’s an 11 year old who is seemingly happy in life and apparently comes from a healthy, happy, loving and encouraging family. She’s also clearly being bullied by adults who–let’s be honest here–have no business following her online or harassing her in person. It’s a sad thing for a child to deal with. Her responses just prove (to me at least) that she’s a strong girl and her parents are thus far, raising her well. And all these absolutely pathetic cretins saying awful things about a child? It speaks volumes about their non-existent character.

  • Nancy

LOL. She makes a point but she is 11 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only reason this girl is even in print is because of who her father is. PERIOD.

  • Nancy

Jada . . . EAT SOMETHING that has FAT in it.

  • wth

Grown people talking smack about an 11 year old child. And we wonder why children are growing up so screwed up. And to think some of the people here are parents. This is bullying and abused in a very real way. I always wonder why this nation doesn’t take a stand for children.

The internet is just letting people abuse children through their computer. Doesn’t matter who her parents are or what money they have. This is wrong.

  • slatice

Well said KATE! The with the world is, yes we have a right to express ourselves, because of freedom of speech, but Willow is Still a child. Until she is an adult, she should act and be treated like one. Now my problem as a parent is HOW DO SHE KNOWS THAT SHE IS BI, GAY, AT THE AGE OF 11. Someone is not protecting her. And all you people that is gay, (which is fine with me, I just feel if you are, you donot have a right to to change everyone to gay, just be your self, and love yourself and stop trying to make the word change to gay or force it on people.) she is still a child first. You all is not looking at How could she KNOW IF SHE IS BI OR GAY!!! AND THAT SCARES ME AS A PARENT.!!!!!

  • wow

@slatice: As a parent, other parents like you scare me far, far more than an intelligent young woman that isn’t willing to let ignorant people (full grown adults no less) bully her into blending in with the crowd.

  • wow

another 100% for you here. That pretty much says it all.
