Willow Smith: People Can't Shape What's In My Heart & Soul!

Willow Smith chats on the phone as she enters her hotel on Thursday (May 19) in Miami, Fla.

The 11-year-old entertainer was joined by her mom Jada Pinkett-Smith. The duo spent the afternoon out together!

Willow recently chatted about the scrutiny she faces for her individualism.

“Grown ups [have] children and they say ‘you can be whatever you want to be.’ And then they go on my Instagram and comment, ‘How can your parents let you go out looking like that?’ Telling me that I can’t do what I want to do. When I’m someone’s child,” Willow told MTV. “You’re telling your kid they can be this but telling me I can’t be that.”

“The thing is that if I know what’s true in my heart and my soul, then what people say can’t shape that,” Willow added.

    Jasmine Says:

Wow. Grown adults just got treated by an 11-year-old.
I’m questioning why adults are on a child’s instagram to begin with…

    Nina Says:

Entitled brat. TELL THAT to other 11 year old kids that are going hungry tonight while you’re giving an interview to MTV!

No offense to her, but Willow Smith is 11 years old. Shouldn’t she be in Just Jared Jr.? She really doesn’t belong here.

What a lovely and well spoken young lady. You ignorant sad-sacks could learn a lot from her.

    Is she anorexic?

    hahaha Says:

Being something and doing something are two different things. I thought an 11 year old would know the difference between a noun and a verb.

    Isha Says:

@hahaha: Willow’s comments are interesting, or have I been clueless all this time. Although her hair cut could be a culture trend, but when you add it to the way she dresses…no disrespect to her and her preference, but could she have possibly just came-out?

    Isha Says:

@haha I did not mean to reply to your comment. Sorry

    Kate Says:

    Oh Willow,

The phrase goes “you can be whatever you want to be WHEN YOU GROW UP.” Until then, it is the responsibility and duty of your parents to protect you and your childhood, and raise you well. Nice try there. You even remind me a little of myself at that age… A Bit of a smart***! I applaud that. But in the end, you are an eleven year old child. And while I hope you continue to think for yourself, don’t ask for trouble. Hollywood is a dangerous world.

    Good Luck, Kid.

So when is that skinny black boy coming out of the closest. I can’t wait to see the look on Will’s face.

    Tami Says:

Its sad that the little girl is smarter than most of you. Who really sits behind a computer bashing an 11 year old girl? What adults do that? That is a smart kid . She’s 100% right and some of you are just jerks. That’s s kid, get a grip!

  20. 20
    Tami Says:

@Jasmine: People are jerks and have to lives obviously . It’s sad, but she has a good head on her shoulders! Thank goodness!

    A Says:

She’s right….and adults, stop being jealous of a child, she’s a child! It’s really disturbing how some comments coming from grown ups reek of jealousy, that’s not healthy. Seriously.

    krix Says:

“The thing is that if I know what’s true in my heart and my soul, then what people say can’t shape that,”

She didn’t say that she doesn’t receive guidance from her parents; nor that she doesn’t listen to her parents.

You would think adults (I assume most of you are) would applaud or at the very least support that statement, especially with all news reports of children being bullied.

But at last, we live in a backwards society, where the opposite is encouraged/supported and Willow’s show of strength (of not being bullied) is mocked, ridiculed and twisted.

  24. 24
    Reese Says:

Bullying at its best. Shame on you adults.

  25. 25
    Emm Says:

Well, i think she looks cool. It’s her ATTITUDE I have a problem with. Both she and her brother act like they’re better than everyone else and like they know everything. Someone should tell them it’s possible to be yourself all the way and still be a nice, humble human being. Stop being so defensive.
