Studios Withhold Box Office Numbers After Colorado Shooting

The major movie studios, Sony, Fox, Disney, Paramount, Universal and Lionsgate have all joined Warner Bros. in agreeing to withhold their weekend box office numbers out of respect for The Dark Knight Rises tragedy that took place early Friday morning.

The studios will reportedly publish their earnings on Monday, Us Weekly reports.

The Dark Knight Rises
actor Christian Bale recently released a statement about the massacre.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” Christian expressed. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

An early estimation brings The Dark Knight Rises total to $160 million for the weekend, according to the LA Times.

Our continued support goes out to all of those effected by this horrific tragedy.

The Dark Knight has nothing to do with this. Come on, they have given the guy what he wants!

I respect actor Christian’s statement,my heart goes for those hurt and griefing families.

Agreed, how could the movie have anything to do with this at all. Rediculous.

I knw the movie has nothing to do with all that. But still its a nice thing to do :)
Their just trying to keep everything in the down low. I mean, I’m sure if the movies name comes up, ppl who lost frnds, families in the shooting. The ones still alive and injured. It will sting. I can’t even think what their going through their mind right

what that guy did was cowardly and senseless but the studios are idiots for withholding the numbers in the wake of it. they’ve never done it when an Iconic star passes away like Broadway will dim it’s stage lights when a notable star from both film/stage passes

Yes, believe it or not, no matter what this is forever gonna be called “The Dark Knight massacre”. Unfortunately. Those people injured will think bitterly of that movie even if they were fans. And I can’t even think of the people who actually lost family members or friends :/

Unfortunate that such a brilliant film was marred by such a horrific tragedy. I loved the movie, and I was especially impressed by Anne Hathaway – she undoubtedly stole the show.
