    YEAAAA ———–It’s about time!!!

  • tess

in Canada or U.K. doesn’t work in WO they are saying it

  • GerryRocksMyWorld

This looks great! I can’t wait for this movie to come out! This was filmed near me, and I was able to see them filming when they were at Half Moon Bay, and at Mavericks. Was able to talk to Gerry a couple of times. He is such a nice guy who is really kind to his fans. I am so excited for this movie to come out! This is a wonderful tribute to Jay.

  • gigibee

    Not fair!!:-(

  • casandra

Love the trailer!!!Gerry looks so good and the movie looks different from anything he ‘s done before …

  • gigibee

He is a sweetie. My friend and I met him a few months ago.Gorgeous,gorgeous,gorgeous. Scientists should clone him….

  • whata

RIP JAY. some nice shots of the point in that trailer.

  • NewThread

Looks like it will have some great sites – - – - – - Gerry and the waves!!!!!

  • gigibee

I meant in comment number 7 that it wasn’t fair that the trailer doesn’t work in the uk.

  • cupccake

Yahoo a new thread. Can’t wait to see the movie, oct could not come soon enough.

  • Joie de Vivre

Splendid trailer! Looks like a promising film. From what little we see here, Jonny Weston looks to have handled the role of Jay with candor. Think they’ll include footage of Butler’s “legendary” 2-wave hold down in the outtakes? Hope it does well on the big screen.

  • curious cat

LOL! Gigibee, at fist I thought you meant the trailer convinced you the movie wouldn’t work artistically or financially! LOL. How we can misinterpret wordsand put too much weight int them. Tess provided the info. It can be frustrating when a vid on the internet won’t play in your area. Happens to me too!

In the first 15 comments we have opposing views from GossipGirl and Gerry’sWorld on how well this movie might do. Shall we set up betting? Surfing movies seem to have a limited audience, as other sports films supposedly do, but a lot of people seem to remember Jay Moriarty and his achievement, and some films surpass their genre. We’ll soon see.

Yes, good good good to see a new thread. Any chance of keeping this one civil? Happy week, all.

  • curious cat

    At first of course.
Forgot to say I like the name change. Chasing is punchier and more accurate than “Of men and…” Just my opinion, and the filmmakers didn’t consult me, but I like it.

  • food 4 thought

I like the name change too. Trailer looks good – I like the tone of it. Hope it does well, I look forward to seeing it. Worth it for the gorgeous scenery of that part of the world.

  • The Original Julie

    Looking good, Gerry. xo

  • Autumn

Hi ALL! A new thread and my 3-wk assignment got canceled – both good news! I love the trailer especially GB’s face (sorry i like the sexy facial lines and the longer hair – very masculine)! Fan me now!

The film looks quite interesting when you see these big waves and the folks who conquer them. Gutsy! Wow!

Have a great weekend JJers! JDV nice to see you – hope your Vacay to the NW was wonderful.

  • niknoks

Unfortunately I can’t see the trailer where I am but I’m looking forward to it, I much prefer biopics to anything else.

  • Autumn

Hi Niknoks! Congratulations on the wedding! Wishing you much happiness!

  • NewThread

I think this film may draw a decent box office. It wil bring out the young because of Jay and the type of sport it is. Tthe men will want to see it because of the action. The women will want to see it because of Gerry.

Hope it does well for you Gerry. I’ll pay to see it. Also hope he has some time to go out and do some PR.

  • Make it Better

Oh, I hope they cut and release another trailer. Jay’s story is so much more compelling than what’s shown here. This trailer kind of makes the film seem like Blue Crush with a boy in the lead, or a generic “boy comes of age and meets challenge” movie in a surf context.
Fans, don’t jump on me for this comment. I’m not criticizing Gerry or the film. I’m saying this because I want the film to do WELL. Especially because Gerry is really carrying this whole film. There is not one other recognizable name in it. Whether or not it does well will speak to his box office power. So I really hope they give the film the best chance possible by recutting and releasing another trailer to show how compelling the story really is!
Also in the wanting Gerry to be the best he can be category, all of the tanning that he did earlier in his career is really showing. He’s starting to get that leopard look that naturally pale (like most Brits) people get after years of sun exposure. Hope he starts a retinol type treatment and wears sunscreen!

  • looks good

I think the movie looks like a winner. I hope so. I just hope the studio promotes the heck out of it and doesn’t drop the ball. Keep it out there and before the public. MTV was a good place to start … but don’t stop there.

  • justsayin’too

Make it better- I have to agree. The trailer doesn’t do anything for me. The big thing for someone like me who isn’t into surfing or know much about it is WHY is it heroic for someone to risk their life to ride a wave. This is where it loses me. If I am going to consider admiring someone for the life they live I need to know WHY it was so important for them to do what they did. I didn’t get this from the trailer so I hope they do make one that MAKES me want to see the movie, no disrespect to Jay intended. Now as far as Gerry is concerned I also have to agree his skin is looking used and abused. I know most on here like his scruffy bedraggled look with the long hair, but I think he looks younger and much more handsome with a little weight and his hair short like in OHM. I wish him luck with this endeavor and hope the film turns out well for his sake. He needs a couple of hits in a row to get him going in the right direction career wise and all this speculation on his personal life needs to end and he needs to live his life in the open whatever it may be.

  • whatshedonenow

A bit of proper news. Well…the surf scenes look  good. The rest looks like a made for tv movie, or an slightly above par Neigbours or Home and Away. Oh dear:/

  • NewThread

Does anyone think it is too soon to bring out the trailer and start advertising for this movie??

  • :) pour les canadians
  • whatshedonenow

No. I think this film is gonna need as much positive PR as it can get. Because I can imagine a lot stupid young fools will think they can ride a wave in “blue crush” movie time – and getting themselves into a whole load of trouble.

  • hmmnnn

@justsayin’too: I have to disagree with your thought of him having to live his life out in the open. Most of the speculation about his private life is only on here. Many of his fans who don’t keep up with every tiny detail of his life 24/7 probably have never heard of MG and their possible connection. Lots of people “out there” and even some magazines, sites etc. stilll think he actually was involved with Jennifer Aniston. LOL.. I don’t think he owes any fan a look at his private life. I’d bet lots of celebrities would agree. All he owes us is a good movie.

  • looks good

@NewThread: I don’t think it’s too early, as long as they keep it up in the right markets.

  • Scout

The surfing shots look great – a lot of cheesy lines though, I’m a bit worried. I agree, surf movies are very niche & he is the only big name. Hopefully the movie as a whole will be better.

  • Scout

@Niknoks Stick “Chasing Mavericks Official Trailer” into You Tube & you will be able to view it there.

  • LOL

“I don’t think he owes any fan a look at his private life. I’d bet lots of celebrities would agree. All he owes us is a good movie.

I completely agree with you. He doesn’t have to live his life in the open, be an open book, or air his dirty laundry in public. It’s up to him to share whatever he wants with us or whatever he feels is appropriate for him. Fans that disparage him for keeping his personal life private are very short sided. All they see is their selfish need/thirst for info regarding his personal life, but fail to see that perhaps he has to keep things private for his own sanity, specifically when it comes to whom he is dating. People forget that he can be very forthcoming as well, especially when he doesn’t feel threatened and feels OK sharing things. It just takes him time to open up and usually after he has made peace with things in his mind. He told us a lot about his childhood, his parents’ marriage, the conflict and mixed feelings regarding his father, his troubled teens and early 20s, his law career, his pains, trials and troubles. But all this came after years of dealing with those feelings. I think once he knows a relationship with a woman is serious enough, he will share the info with his fans. He might not come and outright say we are together, but he will be seen with her at functions or on regular everyday basis that will leave no doubt about her importance in his life. Fans need to give him space, be patient, and wait and see. Eventually we’ll know all.

A few sites say it is the first trailer per #28 site too. Originally the trailer was/is supposed to come out Aug. 7th. Thinking this just might be a teaser? So maybe another…better one will be on its way soon.
I am getting confused with his schedule. Thought that Motor City was to start filming in September. When is he going to have time to do PR for Chasing Mavericks? If anybody knows what is happening, please chime in.
Hope he can squeeze in a Leno or Craig Furguson.
Busy man these days. So good to see him again.
Saw that Fox was distributing, just hope upon hope that they do a wonderful job. Thought that Relativity really dropped the ball with MGP and no justice for Coriolanus either.

  • Make it Better

@justsayin’too: ” know much about it is WHY is it heroic for someone to risk their life to ride a wave. This is where it loses me. That’s exactly what I mean. This isn’t a film about J. Edgar or even a high profile athlete like Michael Jordan. Everyone knows who Michael Jordan is and that he was a stellar athlete even if they’ve never watched a basketball game. I mean Mike is a pretty common name but most people adults in the US at least know that the jingle “I wanna be like Mike” refers specifically to Michael Jordan.
The surf world next to major sports is really really small. People outside of that world don’t know who Jay was. They don’t know why they should care and this trailer looks to me like the plot of 1000 young hopeful trained by seasoned legend movies.
I’M NOT SAYING THAT’S WHAT THE MOVIE IS so everyone who is an automatic, blind, and unconditional “yes” woman when it comes to anything and everything Gerry can just calm down. I’m sure there’s more to the movie. I’m just saying that this trailer doesn’t show it, and since the success or failure of this movie is going to be laid at Gerry’s feet since he’s the only recognizable name attached to it, it would be nice if they put a little more effort into the trailer to show that there’s more to the film. Something different than we’ve already seen. The reason Jay was unique and that the story is unit. imo.

    @Make it Better:

As far as G. carrying the movie, don’t forget that there’s a Oscar winner in the movie – Elizabeth Shue (even though it seems like she has a somewhat minor part).

And G.’s skin? Those poor Scots, it seems like they just weren’t made for tanning; however, they definitely make up for it in manliness and good looks!

  • Make it Better

@legends: “on’t forget that there’s a Oscar winner in the movie – Elizabeth Shue”
No disrespect intended, and Elizabeth Shue is a fine actress, but she could never ever carry a film in her own right. How many people could even name a film she’s been in in the last five years without looking it up? And were any of those films notable at the box office? The only films of hers that were “big” that I can remember were made more than a decade ago, in the late 90s. Deconstructing Harry and Leaving Las Vegas.
This film is definitely all on Gerry’s shoulders, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. He’s big enough now that he should be able to carry a movie. And if he carries this one, that will be fantastic! I just really think he could use all the help he can get in that venture and running a more compelling trailer would be a good place to start.

  • Wax On Wax Off

Make it Better & legends –
Elizabeth Shue will always and forever be the Karate Kid’s main squeeze to me. I think that’s appropriate given the mentor/mentee theme in Mavericks too — there’s even waxing involved! Surf boards instead of fences but who’s counting.
Agreed with both of you on Gerry’s skin. The sun in not a Scot’s best friend. You can definitely see the sun damage dark spots on his face. I also agree that it might be more okay on him than others tho because of the whole rugged Scot thing. And his eyes will always be totally gorg.

  • justsayin’too

On sharing his personal life, he is paid for being in the public eye millions of dollars. If he wants to be known for his career he needs to take the focus away form his personal life and just live normally. Every A list actor has either a family, relationships or date out in the open. Why does he think he can’t. His few (probably 25 or fewer) nut fans will get over it and move on to someone else they can obsess over. He purposely creates the drama around his personal life by pretending to keep it private when he knows he is being photographed and tweeted and facebooked about. My own opinion is he likes to string women along so that is his reason and it makes him look sleazy when he very well may not be at all. As long as he gets paid for people paying to see him in films he has to accept the public fascination with his life. He’s just not that important that he can’t have a personal life but his refusal to admit to anything and all his talking about his hidden relationships, etc… makes him look like he thinks he is just too famous to have a normal relationship and it makes him look like a jerk when in fact he is probably a wonderful person. His PR team sucks in my opinion because they have not given him good advice and have hurt his image instead of helping it. Just an opinion.

  • Why?

Why do you guys post about whether or not Gerry should be exposing his personal life when you know it is going to start a fight on this thread?
The only reason that I can imagine is that there are some (or one troll) that thrive on fighting on these threads.
How about leaving it alone? How about just not responding.
Gerry’s going to do whatever he’s going to do regardless of whatever anyone on this thread says about it, so why bother getting yourselves all upset about it?
And that goes for both sides of every single argument. No one in these thread fights is right and no one is wrong. You’re just all wasting your time fighting over a man you don’t know.
Try giving it a rest and letting this thread be a chat about the film.
Just try it. See if you have the will power to do it.

  • God Bless yoou all!

“But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Ditto to all above about the title change. It’s much more dynamic, appealing and appropriate.
