This looks great! I can’t wait for this movie to come out! This was filmed near me, and I was able to see them filming when they were at Half Moon Bay, and at Mavericks. Was able to talk to Gerry a couple of times. He is such a nice guy who is really kind to his fans. I am so excited for this movie to come out! This is a wonderful tribute to Jay.

Splendid trailer! Looks like a promising film. From what little we see here, Jonny Weston looks to have handled the role of Jay with candor. Think they’ll include footage of Butler’s “legendary” 2-wave hold down in the outtakes? Hope it does well on the big screen.

LOL! Gigibee, at fist I thought you meant the trailer convinced you the movie wouldn’t work artistically or financially! LOL. How we can misinterpret wordsand put too much weight int them. Tess provided the info. It can be frustrating when a vid on the internet won’t play in your area. Happens to me too!

In the first 15 comments we have opposing views from GossipGirl and Gerry’sWorld on how well this movie might do. Shall we set up betting? Surfing movies seem to have a limited audience, as other sports films supposedly do, but a lot of people seem to remember Jay Moriarty and his achievement, and some films surpass their genre. We’ll soon see.

Yes, good good good to see a new thread. Any chance of keeping this one civil? Happy week, all.

    At first of course.
Forgot to say I like the name change. Chasing is punchier and more accurate than “Of men and…” Just my opinion, and the filmmakers didn’t consult me, but I like it.

I like the name change too. Trailer looks good – I like the tone of it. Hope it does well, I look forward to seeing it. Worth it for the gorgeous scenery of that part of the world.

Hi ALL! A new thread and my 3-wk assignment got canceled – both good news! I love the trailer especially GB’s face (sorry i like the sexy facial lines and the longer hair – very masculine)! Fan me now!

The film looks quite interesting when you see these big waves and the folks who conquer them. Gutsy! Wow!

Have a great weekend JJers! JDV nice to see you – hope your Vacay to the NW was wonderful.

I think this film may draw a decent box office. It wil bring out the young because of Jay and the type of sport it is. Tthe men will want to see it because of the action. The women will want to see it because of Gerry.

Hope it does well for you Gerry. I’ll pay to see it. Also hope he has some time to go out and do some PR.

    Make it Better Says:

Oh, I hope they cut and release another trailer. Jay’s story is so much more compelling than what’s shown here. This trailer kind of makes the film seem like Blue Crush with a boy in the lead, or a generic “boy comes of age and meets challenge” movie in a surf context.
Fans, don’t jump on me for this comment. I’m not criticizing Gerry or the film. I’m saying this because I want the film to do WELL. Especially because Gerry is really carrying this whole film. There is not one other recognizable name in it. Whether or not it does well will speak to his box office power. So I really hope they give the film the best chance possible by recutting and releasing another trailer to show how compelling the story really is!
Also in the wanting Gerry to be the best he can be category, all of the tanning that he did earlier in his career is really showing. He’s starting to get that leopard look that naturally pale (like most Brits) people get after years of sun exposure. Hope he starts a retinol type treatment and wears sunscreen!

    looks good Says:

I think the movie looks like a winner. I hope so. I just hope the studio promotes the heck out of it and doesn’t drop the ball. Keep it out there and before the public. MTV was a good place to start … but don’t stop there.

    justsayin'too Says:

Make it better- I have to agree. The trailer doesn’t do anything for me. The big thing for someone like me who isn’t into surfing or know much about it is WHY is it heroic for someone to risk their life to ride a wave. This is where it loses me. If I am going to consider admiring someone for the life they live I need to know WHY it was so important for them to do what they did. I didn’t get this from the trailer so I hope they do make one that MAKES me want to see the movie, no disrespect to Jay intended. Now as far as Gerry is concerned I also have to agree his skin is looking used and abused. I know most on here like his scruffy bedraggled look with the long hair, but I think he looks younger and much more handsome with a little weight and his hair short like in OHM. I wish him luck with this endeavor and hope the film turns out well for his sake. He needs a couple of hits in a row to get him going in the right direction career wise and all this speculation on his personal life needs to end and he needs to live his life in the open whatever it may be.
