AMC Cancels 'The Killing' After Two Seasons

AMC’s critically acclaimed drama The Killing has been canceled after two seasons.

“After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season,” the network said in a statement (via TV Line). “AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.”

The Killing starred Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman as detectives trying to solve the murder of a teenage girl, a storyline which was wrapped up at the end of the second season.

I thought it was terrific, but it fell apart. When they didn’t solve the mystery after the first season, I didn’t bother with the second season. I thought they could have easily turned it into a regular series with a different mystery each season, but they tried to milk the original idea too long.

In the UK they would have broken it up into four [elaborate] episodes and called it a mini-series. The story line was rank with such potential and it was quite obvious that it should not have be dragged out into 10 episodes, much less two season. ijs.

They ruined the show by making solving the murder in 2 years, here we watch Mentalist and other CSI shows solving murders in 1 Episode… it has lot of potential but AMC\’s bad decision to end the season 1 without Rosie Larson\’s Killer made it unbearable towards the season 2. I almost use to forward all of the Governor\’s scenes they were so boring.. even though they gave Rosie A New Killer with a Twist of her Aunt still they knew no one is returning back but the Good Thing is Mireille Enos (World War Z, Gangster Squad & Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three)and Joel Kinnaman (ROBOCOP, Lola Versus) getting big roles so can’t wait to see them in movies.

I thought it was great…I followed it all the way through because it was very different – much more character driven than most crime shows are nowadays. And also less predictable. But I don’t know…maybe nr 1 was right that the murder should have been solved in the first season.

The first episode was an extra on the sixth season DVD of Bones and I only watched that first episode (I don’t think it is even out where I live). There were a couple of threads in there, which interested me, but I realized that it would be likely that solving that murder would take at least one season and this was basically a no go for me, because I am not that patient, lol.

Yes; I’m sad–I can understand why some viewers were frustrated with it taking two season’s to find Rosie’s killer, but this show had some great potential to carry on for a few more seasons at least…

Countdown to when Olivia Munn dumps Joel K. now that he’s unemployed and she can’t use him for fame anymore. 5… 4… 3…

That’s a shame. I’m gonna miss Linden and Holder. I really liked it and was hoping there would be another case.

@SaadGKhan: And those shows that solve a murder in one episode are terrible and generic. Have you people heard of a little show called The Wire? The name Stringer ring any bells (no pun intended)? Some of the best shows take it slowly, and while I preferred the Danish version (which I might add took twenty episodes in one season for them to solve the case, that’s only four episodes less than the US), it’s much better than The Mentalist and CSI. You’ve gotta be kidding.

I really like it myself, and will definitely miss Linden and Holder. Hope to see more of those 2 actors!

well me and my mom were definately following along with the killing but it was going downhill i liked enos and kinnaman a lot together and hope to see them in more ..i know they both have been doing a lot anyway..the show was a slow one but i was trying to stick with it…another one bites the dust

@Lauren: I read somewhere that he will be the main actor in the remake of Robocop so I don’t think Olivia will dump him quite yet

@Ev – I agree with you completely… but come on… that pun was definitely intended.

I don’t think I wanna waste two more years of my life on one murder mystery. This was brilliant and the ending floored me but if this is the way they’re going, I wasn’t gonna watch another season. Please no. It’d have to be two again? No.

I gave this show 2 episodes to impress me. They failed. Hope it’s replaced with something better.

The show definitely had potential. I watched it strictly to find out what happened to Rosie but not a single character was even remotely likeable. I’m not surprised it got cancelled. If not for the terrible characters, but because where exactly can you go after 2 seasons focused on one mystery, of which was already losing viewer interest?

No!!! no no no no no no no no no no! this isn’t happening this is just a bad dream! WAKE UP ME, WAKE UP!! Viva la LINDEN + HOLDER!
