Jake Gyllenhaal Covers 'Details' September 2012

Jake Gyllenhaal shows off a full beard on the cover of Details‘ September 2012 issue, on newsstands later this month.

Here is what the 31-year-old End of Watch actor had to share with the mag:

On the extreme prep required for the film: “Five months for a 22 day shoot. Three nights a week in ride-alongs with cops. Fight training every morning at a KenboKarate dojo, and I got the shit kicked out of me. Then the shooting range, shooting past each other’s heads, with live ammo. There’s a simulated fire in the movie, but Dave (the Director) wanted us to feel what that’s like, so he had us do a controlled burn… a Saturday where me and Michael Pena drive down to Orange County, dressed like firemen head-to-toe, and suddenly we’re there just sit- ting in the middle of a burning building.”

On being on the other side of the camera: “I grew up on the other side of the camera. And yes, I do love making movies as much as being in them. I love actors, watching what they do, and I do love acting off-camera, and how it helps tell the story.”

On his outlook on life: “Every journey starts with fear. And I could say that’s what I want to embrace now. A real experience. And I want, overall, to trust what I know is right. There have been many times when I haven’t. It’s what I’m asking myself: Where is the line? What is the line? There’s so much context, it can be almost impossible to find.”

Love, love, love Jake but in a few of these shots he looks like a slightly less crazy Joaquin Phoenix during the “fake rapper” phase.

# 2

He’s just 31? Jared Leto is 40 and looks younger than Jake..

#2, Lennah, maybe because he’s using a cig and a glass of something that could give the impression of booze for props. So of course he would look older and rougher. That combo ages you fast. Doubt if he smokes. He’s too cool and fit and smart and cute.

*****.

Looking great and I love the last quote. It seems like he is turning into an interesting mature actor. Great photos.

@Leenah:

This is how he looks now: the usual laid-back, fit, casual Jake

At the time of the interview/photoshoot, he was “in character”: playing the double role in “An Enemy”, a dark psychological drama. He was in the mood and the clothes of the characters. Very Method.

Chameleonic Jake: in a matter of months, we will see him with a shaved head, playing a heroic cop in “End of Watch” + with a full beard playing two men with twisted identity issues in “An Enemy”. And who knows what look he will sport for his new Broadway play :)

Aww. I will always love Jake.

He is mature guy, someone like him you will believe in any cause he cares about but someone immature and running after young models then he wants people to take him seriously !!

Amazing Man

maybe his next step should be a wife and kids?

Think he must be hard to cast him. He looks much older than 31, but not older than 40-something. He can’t play the young dude anymore and yet he does not look old enough to play the older guy either. Think he has to reach 50 and then his true age will catch up with his looks. Maybe why he doesn’t seem to get cast in big parts and seems like he’s being overlooked by other actors in his age group now like Ryan Gosling.

Parece um mendigo!

I just heard that Reese is going to make a movie about our relationship! How cool!

hate me for this guys but they cut the best parts of the interview, I read it already. Basically he strung a whole bunch of wors together to sound intelligent and self pondering, and he failed. *facepalm*

He looks better now, although he is still not groomed. Don´t like these photos of a bearded Jake Gyllenhaal, strange interview. End of Watch was not a good influence on his personality. Apparently it turned him into a smoking, lazy guy in ugly clothes, looking like a homeless person in his forties. And he doesn´t seem to have any interesting opinions. Why is he wearing a NY cap all the time, don´t know any adults doing this. Hate the smoking, so stupid to smoke. Haven´t seen photos of actors smoking in any magazine for the past 30 years!! Not a good role model!!!!!! Hope he will get a personal assisent and will accept some good movie roles.

Great photos! Jake is a great actor! Love him in Prince of Persia and Source Code. Enemy will be great! Great story!!!!!

I have to say the photos are really good! I love it! I like you like that! OK I am from Europa!

The cover is great! Love you with the “Bart”! You are looking so good!

In lieu of being a police officer and with his new flick called, “End of Watch”, I was thinking; “If I were thinking about having a career to be a police officer I would also have (at least) a 3rd degree GreenBelt Karate background: Shoot upon criminals only when shot at(Self Defense), and use my Karate skillls to those who have no weapons, but are still using physical violence in trying to flee….there should be more requirements applied to becoming a police officer.
