OlderNaomi Watts: I Couldn't Not Play Princess Diana
Naomi Watts gets into character before filming scenes for her upcoming film Diana at a community center on Wednesday (August 8) in Hemel, England.
The 43-year-old actress plays the title character, Princess Diana, in the biopic that is set to be released next year.
“An awful lot of pressure comes with [the role], so you want to get it right,” Naomi told an Aussie newspaper about taking on the iconic role. “I was dreading people saying `she looks nothing like Diana‘, and `why her and not somebody else?’. But I couldn’t not do it.”
“Its scary. Sometimes it’s as if you’re watching the ghost of Diana,” her director Oliver Hirschbiegel added about Naomi’s performance.

She is a little older than Diana but much more wrinkled than the years between them justify. Her face at 43 or 44 is simply aged and does not have that natural fullness and beauty that Diana had at 36 when she died. Wish someone else was doing this role.
This movie looks busted and budget; watts looks nothing like Diana, and is almost 10 years older than Diana at the stage she is playing her in the film. This was a bad idea all way round!

Don’t know why people are always concerned about the look. That isn’t the point of the film!
It’s just wrong on all levels. Naomi doesn’t have the height the looks or the personality to play Diana. The problem is Diana’s face and looks are so well known you just can’t mimic her. Diana’s height was a big thing and the way she dressed is iconic. The clothes and wigs that are on Naomi look cheap and tacky. And Diana was never cheap and tacky. I guess Naomi really needed the work but she should be ashamed and after saying she dreamed that Diana gave her approval just makes it even worse. If they can’t get the hair right they haven’t even done basic research of Diana so the movie is probably way more fiction then fact. It’s just someone’s version on how they think things went down with some actress who is way too old and too short to be playing Diana. It’s going to be a trainwreck.

In latter years, Diana had shorter hair. The hairstyle Naomi has is awful and makes her look so much older. Diana’s hair was more that style when she had Harry but she didn’t have a lined face. Diana was tall and willowy and in her latter years had developed a graceful style. Naomi is attractive but here she just looks like a pretty but boring middle-aged woman.
She looks more like Camilla than Diana. Not a good choice at all for the part. Diana was a gorgeous icon, she deserves better

I like Naomi, good actress and they have the wardrobe and hair right, but she is too old too play Diana, you can clearly see it in her face. Diana was not as wrinkly as Naomi, Diana was in her 30s and Naomi is almost mid-40 and the face says it all. The same will happen when Nicole plays a 30-something Grace Kelly. At 40+, their faces look older, despite any ressemblance. But I guess they camera men will use MAJOR soft-focus lens for these movies.
