Lea Michele Covers 'Nylon' Magazine September 2012

Lea Michele wears cat ears on the cover of Nylon magazine’s September 2012 issue, on newsstands August 28.

Here is what the 25-year-old Glee actress had to share with the mag:

On her days as a child actor: “I was a weird kid. I was eight years old saying I don’t want a day off. I’d like to work every day, please.’”

On her upcoming first solo album: “I want to make songs where girls can just roll down the windows of their car or dance around in their rooms in their underwear, like, I hate my ex-boyfriend! or I’m so in love! Because that’s what I want [to hear]–power-girl songs.”

On shock value: “I feel like I’m the type of person who likes to shock people a little bit, too. For example, when I was in Spring Awakening, every night I had to do this nude scene. I always loved to find the one person in the audience who I knew was going to be uncomfortable—who throughout the show was cringing in their seat—and when [co-star] Jonathan Groff would undo my top, I loved it! I was like, ‘Take that!! How uncomfortable are you right now? I want you to be uncomfortable!”

Ryan Murphy on Lea’s talent: “I always thought she was very original. Then I heard her sing and I knew there was nobody like her. She’s a very rare talent–she’s very specific and unusual and yet also familiar. She’s in that canon of the great singer-actresses—there’s not many of them.”

FYI: Lea is wearing a Marc by Marc Jacobs sweatshirt, Honeydew socks, and an ASOS headband on the cover.

Without a doubt she’s a good singer, I just don’t like how she doesn’t seem to be able to get enough of herself.

  • Maria

Oh please, if you had her talent and even less popularity, you would love yourself so much more we wouldn’t be able to hear the end of it. It’s bad when you don’t have anything to show. The photos are okay, a bit boring, but it’s not Lea’s fault. Love her!

  • lori

She wants to make power-girl songs, yet all she can come up with is ex boyfriends and being in love. right…. doesn’t sounds like much power to me.. actually, it sounds pathetic and dependant. the opposite of power. think before you talk.

  • beautiful

    Beautiful girl, loved the pictures

  • Jennica Pannettiere

“How uncomfortable are you right now? I want you to be uncomfortable!” She sounds like a douchette.

  • guilt ones

@Jennica Pannettiere: have you ever watch spring awakening? You should know what you are talking anouilh before spreading hate, the play talks about sexuality an,d how uncomfortable her character was discovering her own sexuality. That was the reaction the director wanted, according to the director words.
So just informed yourself before hating someone you don’t know.

  • acting

Lea looks great, loved the pictures, the outfits are really cute.
And for the people that is hating her comment about “make people uncomfortable” you obviously don’t know what Spring Awakening is about or how is imposrtant to an actor get that kind of reaction from the audience.

  • Tara

@Jennica Pannettiere: maybe those audience members were uncomfortable at the combination of having to see her unattractive face, listen to her annoying voice and then be traumatized by the sight of her nude body. i would be!

  • nosi

wow haters, your dedication to spread negative comments in this article and dislike all the positive comments amused me

  • koko

Nylon! You’re getting rather mainstream these days….

  • Loser

@Tara: keep hating it will not change the fact that she is talented and famous and you are behind a keyboard

  • Message

She is just not sexy. At all. Ever.

  • Pookie

I’m not love her, not hating just indifferent. But even I acknowledge that she have amazing voice and great talent
I hope she will get something outside glee, cause I really really don’t like glee just watch several episode in the last season and the story line is suck!!

  • Porche

    She looks good

  • Effy

Not trying to hate on a girl I don’t know but when she said, “I hate my ex-boyfriend! or I’m so in love! Because that’s what I want [to hear]–power-girl songs.” How is that exactly power-girl songs? Saying you hate your ex-boyfriend is ridiculously immature. Yeah, it hurts to be broken up with, but it’s life…grow up.

    Love the cover, love Lea.

  • Hmmm

On dealing with the paparazzi: “I’m sorry but it’s so strange. I always feel now that people only want to get the worst out of sitting and talking to me. I feel a weird thing where it’s like, ‘Do you just want to find out something bad?’”

I totally get that sentiment too! I wonder how much of it due to people just presuming she’s the character she plays on tv? Interesting. Regardless, great cover!

  • lola

@Effy: but Taylor swift is making Millions singing about her ex-boyfriends and no one seems to have a problem with that?

  • emily

    @Jennica Pannettiere:

    it was a joke……

  • emily

    @lori:

    My thoughts exactly. Lame ding-bat.
