Tom Cruise Reacts to Director Tony Scott's Death

Tom Cruise looks somber after leaving Madeo restaurant following the news of director Tony Scott‘s death on Sunday (August 19) in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old actor worked with the director on the 1986 film Top Gun and the 1990 film Days of Thunder with his then love Nicole Kidman.

Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time,” Tom said in a statement to E! News.

“I’m so so sad. I loved Tony and he was always so good to me. He will be deeply missed by so many of us that knew him,” Nicole said.

Tony passed away after committing suicide by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles. He was reportedly recently diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.

Tony Scott will be deeply missed – not only by the people who knew and loved him, but by thousands of fans. May he rest in peace.

I do not, however, understand why you didn’t mention the fact that Tony Scott directed Tom in “Top Gun”. That was his breakout movie. Tom owes his entire career to this brilliant man.
Days of thunder was a great movie, I remember loving it as a kid, but it wasn’t as amazing as Top Gun. That one is just as much of a classic as the movies of John Hughes.

Jared are you picking up news from the Daily Mail? It is very possible at this point Tom didn’t even know Tony Scott was dead.

Also a “close source” has said he had inoperable brain cancer. Tony not Tom.

Very sad news. May his family and friends find strength and perseverance during this most difficult time.

I am appreciative to an amazingly talented director whose movies I very much enjoyed.

    ******side note******
A very tough year for Tom Cruise – a divorce and a death of a close friend. Hopefully, his family and friends are a comfort and support.

  • pinkydoo

@krix: I agree, first his wife and divorce and now the loss of a dear friend. I feel badly for Tom

actualy tom is looking a little haggard here. despite his money, power and privilege, i still like him. even if it is fake, he always smiles and gives a wave to fans and photographers.

  • Zip

He looks heartbroken tough year for Cruise.

  • Melanie

Maybe he should see Suri more than once every 6 months when he isn’t being a cash cow to films.
