Paul Haggis Confirms Vanity Fair's Tom Cruise Claims

Oscar-winning filmmaker and former Scientologist Paul Haggis has spoken out to confirm reports made in Vanity Fair‘s latest issue that women were auditioned to become Tom Cruise‘s wife before he married Katie Holmes.

In the October 2012 issue of Vanity Fair, reporter Maureen Orth writes that the Church of Scientology sent Iranian born actress Nazanin Boniadi on a “mission” to New York, in which she secretly dated Tom and was frequently made to feel ashamed of her actions.

“I’ve known Nazanin for about three years. I met her through a mutual friend when I was doing my own personal research into the allegations against Scientology, before I wrote my letter of resignation. Naz was embarrassed by her unwitting involvement in this incident and never wanted it to come out, so I kept silent. However I was deeply disturbed by how the highest ranking members of a church could so easily justify using one of their members; how they so callously punished her and then so effectively silenced her when it was done. It wasn’t just the threats; they actually made her feel ashamed, when all she had been was human and trusting,” Paul wrote in an email to Showbiz 411.

“After I wrote my resignation letter, a dozen or more “friends” and officials of the church repeatedly descended on me to demand that I destroy the letter and resign quietly. I told them that wasn’t an option for me. I also told them that I had more sources of information about the troubling nature of the organization then I was at liberty to divulge. This was one.

I’ve met quite a number of people who have been treated shamefully but are afraid to speak out. This story will draw attention because of our fascination with celebrity. Most of the others are just ordinary people whose stories, if told, would not appear in a magazine. They live in fear of retribution, legal, financial or personal, even some famous ones. They fear an incredibly wealthy organization that boasts that it seeks truth, empowers people, brings families together, encourages independent thought and free speech, and champions human rights. I would like to say that i don’t know how its members, many of them good and intelligent people, can remain so purposely blind when they are faced with evidence like this every day, but then I am no one to talk. I was happily blind for many years, so I know the shame that Naz feels.

In Naz’s case, she has no right to feel ashamed. She is not only a terrific actress at the beginning of a very promising career, she is a dedicated human rights activist and a truly lovely and caring person. The last thing she wanted or needed is this kind of publicity, but here it is, and I am sure she will deal with it with the same grace and dignity she exudes in her daily life. I’m appalled that any church would treat its parishioners this way, but Naz has never cast herself as a victim. She is strong and resilient and I am very proud to call her a friend.

And FYI, in case this wasn’t clear, Naz quietly and privately resigned from the church a couple of years ago after several years of trying to handle this injustice internally, to no avail.”

I do not understand why Scientology should be in any way messing with relationships like this.

I don’t think ANY religion / faith should do that.

    It just sounds so weird.

What’s the reason? What’s the purpose for doing that?

It’s not like we needed this to know how f@cked and ridiculous scientology is.

If they really hold an audition to one become Tom’s wife I don’t see how Katie would’ve got the part, i mean, let’s be honest here, her acting skills are inexistent

Even if this is true..How is he helping her if this lady Naz if she wanted this to be kept quiet? In trying to expose Cruise for what? What crime was committed here…WHY try to embarrass her for what happened 7 years ago. IMO this man Haggis is the pig because she wants to forget about it.

No one knew about this lady’s situation before he opened his mouth. If she moved on why did he use her name in the interview and just kept her name out of it?

I truly believe these people are evil and using gullible lost people for their own means. Whatever is done in darkness will eventually come into the light, this is the nature of man. All their power and money cannot stop man’s natural instincts…they are going down…its just a matter of time.

If Tom is so proud of his religion and has nothing to be ashamed of, why the denial on his part? He needs to think about that.

Oh the girl from How I met your mother and the Nespresso add with Clooney. Well if she was stupid enough to subject herself to that that’s her problem. Same goes for Katie. Would they have ever agreed to that kind of charade if the prize was not called Tom Cruise? simple answer: NEVER. So I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. Scientologists and their crazyness only affect those who’ll let them.

I remember Nazanin from General Hospital. Anyway, this is not a big revelation. The audition thing has been talked about for years. Katie Holmes was low on the list; Scarlett Johannson and Sofia Vegara turned him down, the latter laughed at his crazy. I remember a female athlete or musician that was being interviewed on Access Hollywood or something said that she was honored that Tom wanted to fly her out and meet her. A few months after Katie Holmes debuted. He needs a fellow cultist like Kelly Preston to hide the crazy.

    Nymeria Says:

People fall in cults, trying to go out is hard. Manipulating, shaming, forcing, indoctinating, etc. impressionable women and other people is despicable.
Most probably they thought it was some kind of “honor”, they should be grateful.
What a horrible way to treat people and particulary women, using and discarding them. Read the VF article, I am waiting for the whole thing!

Tom Cruise is in so deep, he can’t get out… In the pictures of him on a yacht, he looks so brainwashed, it’s not even funny…..Feel sorry for him.

Tom cruise is way effed up in that crazy cult..I ma not in holloywood and I know this and no amount of money or fame will make me want to date such psycho midget.

SO you shoudl ask what the attraction for Bonaidi and Holmes was..they were also looking to use Tom Cruise to increase thier fame…only they found out how crazy he was…..Cruise never lied about his affiliation, both girls realized it was too high a price to pay

Now how and where and by whom Suri was conceived will come out soon enough..

Katie holmes is just as sick for going along with the stupid charade and bringing a child into ti

    DB Says:

Didn’t he meet Nicole Kidman on a movie – Days of Thunder? Like a normal man and woman? Why would anybody not want that kind of spontaneous attraction instead of some sort of arranged relationship?

This is so confusing. I just don’t get it.

    Rita Says:

The wheels are starting to fall off the bus. You would NEVER have heard such revelations about Scientology just a few years ago. It seemed even the media was scared to investigate the cult. Not anymore.

  23. 23
    miapocca Says:

by the way Katie has not come out against scientology…she is still holmes is schilling for that nonsense cult by keeping quiet and she also was part of a huge cover up, so there will be little empathy for her especially because she opened her legs in a while one week to be inseminated with that child….the brainwashing must be incredibly good if it took a a first meeting….see other women walked away..scarlett and Vegara without even considering this crap… was led by her need to become famous and there in lies her issue….other scieno go in to find something, meaning etc and are duped…she went in with the same manupulative intent as the scientologist…so save your tears for the real victims
