Watch Scarlett Johansson's Speech at Democratic National Convention!

Scarlett Johansson commands the stage during her speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention on Thursday (September 6) held at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.

The 27-year-old actress tried to appeal to young voters in her speech.

“In 2008, less than half of all eligible voters between the ages of 18 and 24 voted,” Scarlett said. “Young America, why are we only speaking with half our voice when so many issues at stake here directly affect us? You know who I’m voting for. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for. I’m here to ask you to commit to vote.”

i agree-that was stupid having her on-i don’t care what she thinks-her and her money live in a whole different world than us who struggle on a daily basis. that was a joke…

@HotMessInAWalmartDress: Unfortunately, regular folks turn to celebrities for guidance on what to wear, buy, listen to, and how to conduct themselves in their everyday lives. Should celebrities who have no more political qualifications than you or I be given a platform to discuss their politics? No, probably not, but that’s the world we live in.

@Bells: I am sooooooo feelin’ ya, Bells, you got THAT right!!

@HotMessInAWalmartDress: well said and i agree 100% — this isn’t doing them any favours either.

People are so stupid nowadays to need celebrities to guide them in Politics…. That being said, I LOVE Scarlett Johansson, she’s SO beautiful and sexy and I feel she has more to her. Not just a bimbo, she seems like a good person.

i’m sure putin would take this seriously. i can’t imagine any other country having celebrities talk at their rallies. its just so weird?
I would prefer to listen to someone who is now on the streets who once had a home 2 yrs ago – or a soldier talking about the war and how fu <ked up it is. not this junk. she's not struggling with anything except how to pose the right way while taking naked pics of herself.

@ hm and HotMessinAWalmartDress – I don’t agree. Whether you like it or not, she’s a U.S. citizen too who earns an income and pays taxes like ordinary folk…substantially more than you or I pay. And because of that fact, she has a right to voice her opinion about the direction of this country just like anyone else. And what’s so terrible with encouraging young people to vote, anyway?! That was the entire point of her speech. She wasn’t telling anyone who to vote for, she was encouraging young people to vote and make their voices heard.

All the hate aside, she’s so self-possessed. Great to see. Like her in-real-life better than her acting.

@OH: ..at the Democratic national convention.. why didn’t she do it at the republican one, too?
and yes everyone has a right, so that being said they could have found a non-celebrity to make the same point. maybe one in college who is encouraging people at their school to vote.. would have been a more powerful message then having scarlett johansson.

@hm – Because she’s a registered Democrat which she stated in her speech if you even listened to it. She said she knew who SHE was voting for, but she wasn’t telling anyone else who to vote for…but just to vote and be heard. She was honest and authentic and her message was powerful because she spoke about her family’s struggles and having to lean on the support on public assistance programs growing up in New York. It’s a poignant message for others who can relate to the same situation.

Eck! Having her there is like having Ben Affleck there. They were both bad for the democrats and help lose John Kerry the presidency

@HotMessInAWalmartDress:
Nowadays, celebrities act as publicists and PR for political campaigns. Gack.

@OH: i DID listen it it, thanks. and i know she is a democrat but that wasn’t my point.

@OH: if you watched the whole thing, then you know that she encouraged everyone to re-elect Obama at the end of her speech.

@sb – She was referring to HERSELF when she stated she was “still filled with the same pride and enthusiasm at re-electing Barack Obama.

@hm – ah yes, your point being that celebrities should just get out of politics and not be featured at political conventions. Yeah….good luck with that.

When u vote next november look what’s around you and not toward celebrities who try to persuade you to vote for their nominees.

Celebrities that get too involved in politics lose half their fans.

love u scarlett,classy
