Such a good match…I thought she was going to loose and then she came back…that was a very intense match.
You go girl!!!
Soo happy for her! Great job! Serena!!
That match was Victoria’s to win, and she lost it, serving for the match at 5-4. Heartbreaking for Azarenka that she couldn’t close it out, but good for Serena to fight back, and get the match back on serve.
I thought she’d lose; even she thought she’d lose.
Congrats to Serena! She was awesome!!
I agree with Sailor; they both played great, it was pretty intense… but this was Victoria’s match, she got a little bit nervous at the end; even Serena was surprised she won. Anyway, congratulations!!
she is awesome
Serena’s reached full-out icon status by now. Fabulous match.
Someone stop her please! Bring back dignity and respect to this game.
@deke: are you kidding me? You mean when Jimmy Connors would spit on the tennis court and Jonny Mac scream at the poor refs? Gimme a break! Serena is a strong and powerful woman. And she’s an awesome player.
Why did CBS keep showing that freaky, wreaking LMFAO creep, like he’s banging Azarenka or something. Him grossly supporting her from the stands did undoubtedly cost her the championship. How could it not?
What kind of world are we living in when he is on TV at a tennis match?
Congrats girl!!!!
@Deke: You must not be well-versed in tennis. Serena and Venus continue to be dignified and respectful of the game and their opponents. You, however, are not being respectful nor dignified regarding someone whose talent is amazing (and record breaking) and undoubtedly better than anyone on here. Jealousy is not a becoming trait. Congratulations, Serena! You earned it.
Serena’s gotten a lot of media training recently, ever since that meltdown she had with the umpire at last year’s US Open. That ended up costing her the match and the title, I think. Since then I’ve noticed that she’s made a point to really keep her temper in check.
Didn’t quite know what to make of the ‘hey we’re Americans so we only support our own’ subtext in her interviews, considering the international nature of a grand slam tournament and of her own fanbase, but oh well, at least she’s learned how to really play to the crowd. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan… I just find it interesting how players, like Serena and Maria etc., all eventually get “made over” by their PR teams. I must admit I kinda miss the emotional and highly charged Serena from a few years back, but I guess everyone’s gotta grow up.
Serena and Roger Federer my idols !
Congrats. Serena!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this was azarenka’s to win, pity, but congrats
HA! I was tripping off him, too, which is what he wanted. I think he was just doing that for attention.
I think the American-rooting comment was directed at that LMFAO guy who was so visibly cheering for her opponent. He really seemed to want some press out of this to up his brand as this outrageous personality. I’d say the cartoonish impression of a mental hospital escapee that is his appearance does that all by itself.
CONGRATS SERENA. I LOVE U.
YOU GO GIRL!
How come there are never any Puerto Rican tennis players? Why do they only excel in welfare food stamps and going to prison?
