OlderBen Affleck Talks Blake Lively in 'Details' October 2012
Ben Affleck looks handsome on the cover of Details magazine’s October 2012 issue.
Here is what the 40-year-old Argo actor/director had to share with the mag:
On touring around Boston with Blake Lively: “When I was doing The Town, I’d tour the actors around Boston. I was with Blake, and I saw Matt [Damon]’s childhood home. And I said, “Oh yeah, that’s where Matt grew up.” And she said, “Who?” And I said, “Matt Damon.” And she said, “Oh my God! You know Jason Bourne?!” She really didn’t know. And I thought, “There it is. The first age of people who are adults who missed the whole Matt and Ben propaganda campaign!” Mostly, it just made me feel old.”
On balancing work and family: “Absolutely. Anytime you think, “I’m wasting my time here,” the first thought you have is “I could go home and be with my kids.” Now, you may go home and be with your kids and very quickly start thinking, “I wonder what’s on the work front?” Because running around after three kids is very trying. Now everything has to compete with being with my family. I don’t want to be a stay-at-home dad. Work is very important to me. I like to work. So does my wife. But I need my work to mean something to me in order for me to not be home with them.”
On Gigli and Jennifer Lopez: “In our culture, we get very much into short- handing people. And I got shorthanded as That Guy: Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer blah blah blah. It’s hard to shake those sort of narratives. If you were looking at that one-liner on me in 2003, which was definitely the annus horribilis [laughs] of my life. I made a bunch of movies that didn’t work. I was ending up in the tabloids. I don’t know what the lesson is, except that you just have to find your compass… People bring up 2003, and I get it. Jennifer Lopez, and Gigli, and all this shit just kind of blew up. But, you know, in 2003, Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois! Okay?”

In every interview I have seen with Ben, he comes across as very intelligent and thoughtful. I think he is a really great director, I was blown away by Gone Baby Gone. (and I think he talks about Jlo in interviews because they ASK him about her.)

You forgot this quote, which says a lot about his lack of presence at home….
“I am not very present in the rest of my life. My wife’s very patient. She does everything,” he shares. “If I have time, I try to spend time with the kids, even if just to be a physical presence, the bath, whatever.”
But even in the midst of his brood’s bathtime, Affleck is the first to admit his mind is often elsewhere. “My mind’s always going, ‘How are we going to light that show tomorrow? What’s the master shot for that scene? Is there even going to be a master?’” he says.
He is basically saying his career is more important than his family and that he spends more time working than with them! He & Jen do not have an equal partnership. Easy to beleive considering she is almost always photographed alone with the kids.

Read the question before reacting to his answer!! He said that when he’s shooting a movie he’s directing, say Argo (which was only 2/3 months last yr), he is always thinking about the movie and spends whatever time he has with his kids even if it was just physical because he doesn’t want to be absent from their lives. He made that comment about presence while shooting, not all yr long. And if you look at the archive on JJ you’ll find pics of him hanging out with his kids every sat/sun while he was shooting last fall(I think it was sept-mid November)
Geez JJ. He talks more about J-Lo – y’know his fiance – at one time the most famous couple in the world than Blake. That Blake/Bourne tale he has repeated ad nauseum. Talk about scandal mongering.

He’s thrilled to be rid of that low class no talent uneducated self absorbed trash from Castle Hill. The JHO Bag quote is very telling. Ben did the right thing by kicking that trash to the curb.
Ben does not sound very happy to me. He has it all with a very good life right now, but it seems to me it does not make him either content or satisfied. I hope he is able to keep his family together but I have my doubts as it appears that JG is pulling his weight and hers most of the time. His priority in his life is his career is what I am reading. I see more than likely heartache for JG and their kids in the future.
This is just my opinion and I may be 100% wrong but I don’t think so.

Actually, JLo kicked him to the curb because he has quite the addiction to strippers. Jen just chooses to turn a blind eye & will stay with him until there is photographic proof of him stepping out on her.

Not a particular fan of either JLo or Ben but she has been very gracious in her words about him and he has never been. He handled that very badly and like a heel. No one deserves that.

I don’t understand why interviewers are STILL asking him about JLo. The difference is, when Diva JLo does an interview, the person asking questions has been given a LONG list of things they cannot ask. Ben is not a drama queen and does not do this. He just answers the best that he sees it.

I know many would love to wish he and his wife are the American dream couple but he comes off as a miserable person. But, I don’t see the happiness, out of respect for his wife and family he needs to no longer discuss JLo(even when asked).

Ben is asked the question about his time with his family while he is working on a film. Ben usually Directs\ Acts\ Writes\ and Produce on his films. He is under a lot of pessure to get the movie finished on time and on budget. The key word the stands out with me is (Anxiety). He has alot on his shoulders durin filming and his wife supports him. Ben clearly spends time with his kids. Jen said in her last interview that Ben barely made it out of his car before the kids rush him with hugs and kisses.
It is one thing to put qoutes from an article to catch the interest of readers. But it takes reader Comprehension to understand that Ben wasn’t talking about his whole relationship with his family in between movies. (Which are a few years apart).

this response (not being present) is really common with artists and people with ADHD (I am both) I’m not saying Ben is, but in no way does it mean he values his work above and over his family. My family is by far the MOST important aspect of my life, but the amount of work I have to do to ensure I am actually present at home, on vacations, even just having a movie night is sometimes painful. It feels beyond your control. My notebooks are sketches of set designs, phone numbers, ideas etc…I have numerous techniques I have to apply to be able to simply be present for home time as I know it bothers my family and I do wish to maintain a healthy home/work balance, but I do not think it is a reflection of his love or devotion to his family, just evidence his brain is wired differently.

Ben and Jen have been married for the lucky#7 amount of years, and appears to be happy!! Good for them, this industry is challenging enough for two actors to keep it strong and healthy for the long haul.
Back in 2003, the GIGLI era, I laid my eyes on Ben for the very first time at his premiere and thought he was so dreamy. From that moment, he turned his life around and truly is on the golden path to a much richer life. Career, family, philanthropist, politics, etc… Aging very well with TIME~
