Zac Efron: 'Paperboy' Underwear Dance was Improvised!

Zac Efron: 'Paperboy' Underwear Dance was Improvised!

Zac Efron shakes hands with Ellen DeGeneres while making an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing Thursday (October 4).

The 24-year-old actor talked about dancing in his underwear with Nicole Kidman for their upcoming movie The Paperboy, which hits limited theaters this Friday.

Nicole is so amazing to work with. She’s also very improvisational and when she finds the character she can sort of maneuver in and out of the lines,” Zac said. “You never know what to expect. This was supposed to be a very serious scene. It was a sort of an intense dramatic moment for me. So I was very prepared to give my all in a dramatic moment and before I knew it music starts to turn up around me and she kind of looks at me and says “You want to dance?” And they’re still rolling so I can’t really say cut. And before I knew it we were improvising an entire dance in the rain.. It’s one of my favorite scenes in the movie.”

  • jessica

    He gets lamer and lamer.

  • Tin tin

ugh my baby is single. i’am coming zac, i’am coming.

  • My 2 Cents

Zac was adorable, but Jared I don’t think it was cool for you to post this video before the show even airs. I’m sure NBC is lovin you about now. LOL

  • Ella

He’s a lot thinner than usual.

Zac, it’s about time you get over your Nicole crush. It was a movie and she was playing a role (period). If he isn’t seeing a shrink, he should be. This infatuation with older women stems from a problem somewhere. Or else the rumors of his gender preferences are right on track.

  • Nofrigginjoke

Honestly was NOT a fan of his, and I saw Charlie Cloud or whatever and thought, “damn, he can NOT act in drama” but Lee Daniels somehow pulled out a RIDICULOUSLY good performance from him for the Paperboy. Nicole Kidman was the best, but Zac seriously showed he had at least has lasting potential. Still not 100% sold on him, but it looks like all he needs is a director like Daniels to pull a strong performance out of him, and he’ll maybe just mature over time? Whatever, just saying that I’ll actually consider seeing his future films, so long as he delivers performances such as this.

  • http://justjared sarah

    WOW he did get skinnier…..

  • Rachel

    Ellen+Zac= wow!

  • Rachel

Come on people, stop this stuff about him liking older women. He worked with Nicole Kidman, loved working with her and is just stating so. Get over it.

Whoever said he has no talent and hence had to dance in the movie, check the reviews please. All the reviews said he did well. The entire cast is said to have done a great job.

  • Rachel

Wow, you have already seen the movie? Nice to hear you also( like the crtics) felt that he did well in it. I hope you see ‘At any Price’ and like his performance in it, Bahrani is a great director and the reviews say that Zac has done a good job.

  • http://justjared sarah

    @”>Ella: : I agree with u

  • florence2

That’s all he can do is fantasize and gush about older women becuase he sure as hell could’nt handle a mature women.

  • florence2

Was meant to say he could’nt handle a older mature woman

  • Nofrigginjoke

@Rachel, yes at TIFF! Of course, the girls all screamed until my ears were bleeding every time he took his clothes off, and when he’s dancing in his underwear. I was a little worried he was just being used as eye candy, but (as stupid as it sounds) him taking his clothes off and everything were helpful to his character. It fit his character’s personality. Basically, it all had a purpose. And he did really well in it. Obviously the fangirls were gonna praise it to no end regardless of how it was, but coming from a guy (well, gay guy, but really not into Efron like that), I can say not only does the film deserve to be seen, but also Efron’s performance. And of course, Kidman and Matthew McCoughnagey (spelling?) were incredible. I swear, Matthew’s having a pretty great year, what with Magic Mike, Killer Joe, and now Paperboy. Anyway, I won’t spoil anything else. Just see the film!

  • Nofrigginjoke

@Rachel, also, i didn’t get to see his film At Any Price at TIFF because I arrived late :(( And I don’t know much about that film. I really was just dying to see The Paperboy. Not really for Efron (which is why I didn’t know about AAP), but he surprised me and impressed me so much now I will see At Any Price when it goes to theaters.

  • Rachel

The movie is based on the novel of the same name so I guess the looks and all come from that.
And hope you like his performance in ‘at any price’ too.

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

@florence2: You’re nothing but a joke. As long as Zac and VH were all lovey dovey you didn’t say anything. Then everything between them was over and you started your stupid torrents of hatred towards Zac. You and some others stop the crap and leave his threads for good. Go back where you belong, nobody wants you or your stupid comments here.

  • BO

all the good comments getting thumbs down ! looks like Pudgens’ wolf pack is out again ! awoooooooohhhhhhh!!

  • Wow

@BO: Why don’t you STFU? Some of us that happen to like both of them are sick and tired of seeing your stupid, immature, and hateful comments. GROW UP and learn some respect.

  • Lollo

Please, go to Vanessa thread, haters, she must be working out a lot, go call her “hot” and do things like that

This is an Efron post not a Hudgens post. The two no longer need mentioning in the others posts.

I would suggest anyone who thinks all Efron can do is dance and take is shirt off, go and look at Channing Tatum’s and Leo Dicaprio’s very early careers.

As for the haters- You don’t like him, fine you are entitled to your opinion. People that respond to the haters-WHY DO YOU RESPOND?It only encourages. Use your brain and stop responding and they will stop posting. They post because you are silly enough to react to them.

  • Jane

@Like: I’m sorry…I have to intervene. You seem to think that Leo’s early career consisted of Romeo + Juliet and Titanic like most of the world’s population does…but his first movie role (besides Critters 3, let’s forget that exists) was This Boy’s Life with Robert Deniro. For a relatively newcomer besides Critters 3, Lassie, a few commercials, Parenthood, and Growing Pains, Leo was extraordinary in his leading role in that film. He then went on to costar with Johnny Depp in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape as a mentally retarded (that is the legitimate term they used, I’m not trying to be derogartory) boy and played that role absolutely PHENOMENALLY. People who didn’t know who Leo was back then thought he had a legitimate mental disability. He was 18 and earned an Oscar nomination for that role. He then went on to do The Basketball Diaries, The Quick and the Dead, and Total Eclipse, just to name a few. None of which required him to “dance and take his shirt off”. Leo’s early career was far better than many actor’s whole careers. Know your facts before you state them.
You can’t compare Zac’s early career to Leo’s. I’m sorry. You can’t. Leo has been an astounding actor his whole life, Zac still has a ways to go. I think he has definite potential, but Leo’s early career far surpasses his.
I highly recommend you all watch What’s Eating Gilbert Grape if you haven’t already. Leo’s performance in it as Arine Grape is truly flawless.
    Okay I’m done speaking!

  • Jane

    *derogatory…sorry I hate spelling mistakes!

@Jane: Unfortunately the Disney Mafia held Zac Efron in captivity for too long; he was thrust into typecast due to the success of High School. I understand that Disney is tyrannical.

Just because Leo was offered good roles early on in his career makes him no more superior to Zac than the early success of Stephen King makes him superior to HP Lovecraft, a virtually anonymous writer who sat alone in his house churning out short stories that occasionally got published in obscure periodicals. Time has shown that Lovecraft is actually the greater writer, for as every year passes (once he was discovered) his popularity has grown and he is now canonized.

My point is 100% of an actor’s success is the luck of the draw; there are great actors who will die unknown simply because opportunity did not stop at their house. Talent means nothing if it does not meet opportunity.

Zac’s path is now open for him to explore roles he was formerly barred from, and what he chooses now will make a great deal of difference in how he proceeds.

Every critic has lauded Zac’s performance, even in the movies they blasted. He has raw talent – hopefully he will get the same opportunities Depp and DiCaprio (who I personally don’t care for) have gotten in their careers.

  • Derpina

I am a fan of Zac but I have to agree with @Jane:, when di Caprio became a “hit” with Romeo and Juliet and Titanic, he already had a very consolidate career

If Zac could transform his career as Matthew McConaughey, Justin Timberlake or Channing Tatum are doing now, I would be happy

  • Amelia25

    Beautiful Zac!

  • Max

I’m not sure who I love most reading this – Nicole or Zac. Have to say I can see Zac being keen to jump about in his underwear at any opportunity, Nicole I would have thought was far more likely to be the more “boring” one. Shows how much I know!!

  • ST

Nice summary. I don’t think I ever saw that entire movie.

@WICKED WENCH: Opportunity and being at the right place at the right time most definitely impacts their careers and success or anyone’s for that matter

  • florence2

Leo’s film ‘ What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ is a brilliant film and Leo showed from ayoung age just how good of a actor he was going to turn into he played that part brilliant, and Zac has a very long way to go to even be considered as good as Leo, if he wants to be like him then efron needs to stop going overboard about his co-star’s becuase Leo is all about the work on a movie not who he get’s to snog or take his clothes off.

Zac even now still sounds like a teenager the way he goes on about his sex scenes and what he and his female co-star’s get up to instead of a supposedly mature 25 nearly 26yr old like his fan’s reckon he is.

  • lauren

    first of all he’s 24, turning 25,
if you dont like him, why are you on here constantly bashing him?
    go away.

  • Jane

@WICKED WENCH: “Leo was offered good roles early on in his career” I’d just like to point out that Leo had to audition like any other person for This Boy’s life and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (and probably other movies like the Basketball Diaries but those two are the only ones I’m certain on). I’d also like to point out that Zac was 18 when he filmed the first High School Musical. Leo was 18 when he filmed What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. So yes…I don’t think there’s any competition between their talent. Again, I’m not saying Zac isn’t talented, but Leo is much more talented in my opinion.
But hey, let’s give Zac a few years and see what happens to his career. He may surprise us all with his talent.
In the meantime I’ll be watching What’s Eating Gilbert Grape over and over.

  • florence2

@lauren: Such a nice of talking to someone who is only pointing out what she thinks wonder what Zac would say if he knew how foul mouthed some of his fan’s are. I post on his thread because it is right to it’s a free country if you don’t like what I have to say then don’t reply.

  • Melek

What is your problem with Zac? Are you serious? Stop hating! He doesn’t deserve this…. Look at you and stop that!

  • FrG

Wow i’m following Zac since a long time. Have you notice how his voice has changed…?? He doesn’t say it but he definitely is a smoker… Listen to his voice…

  • lol
