OlderQueen Latifah & Condola Rashad: 'Steel Magnolias' Premiere!
Queen Latifah, Condola Rashad, and Keri Hilson attend the premiere of Lifetime’s television movie event Steel Magnolias on Wednesday (October 3) in New York City.
The ladies were joined at the event by Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye, and Alfre Woodard.
Steel Magnolias is a contemporary version of the classic play and film that chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s (Scott) beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children – and hair and nails – all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.

The original version was very good, so I am curious to see what they do with this version. However, I find most remakes to be terrible.
why do they need to make a African american cast version…why remake it??
why not just write an original script and cast African american.

The original was the only one I will ever watch, loved it. This just doesn’t interest me.
They should have had someone recreate a similar premise for these actors and not copy-cat and possibly screwed up a classic. I love, love Steel Magnolias and was very disappointed to hear it was being remade period! Leave the classics alone HW we don’t need them to be refreshed or updated because no matter what you always screw them up.
Adepero Oduye should be doing better things! At least she has Twelve Years a Slave. Talented lady.

I very much enjoyed seeing this collection of powerful actresses in the television adaptation of Steel Magnolias. I thought that the show was a good vehicle for Condola to get her name out there and was a good first big project for her. Honestly, I’m a bit partial to the movie because they used some of my company’s products Razor Sharp Salon Wear http://www.berazorsharp.com in one of the salon scenes, but I truly did enjoy the show.
