Justin Timberlake Writes Apology Letter For Homeless Wedding Video

Justin Timberlake has released a letter explaining the situation surrounding the video that was reportedly screened at his wedding to Jessica Biel, which portrayed Los Angeles homeless people in an unsavory light.

“I’d like to start off by saying that I don’t live my life making fun of people (unless, of course, I’m making fun of myself on SNL)… Especially, those who are less fortunate or those in need,” the 31-year-old entertainer wrote on his website.

“I had no knowledge of its existence. I had absolutely ZERO contribution to it. My friends are good people. This was clearly a lapse in judgment which I’m sure no one who is reading this is exempt from,” Justin wrote. “But, I don’t believe it was made to be insensitive. More so, I think it was made as a joke on me not having that many friends attending my own wedding(which IS kind of funny if you think about it).”

“Like many silly rumors that I have been made aware of about the week: It was NOT shown at my wedding,” Justin added. “I want to say that, on behalf of my friends, family, and associative knuckleheads, I am deeply sorry to anyone who was offended by the video. Again, it was something that I was not made aware of. But, I do understand the reaction and, by association, I am holding myself accountable.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Justin Timberlake’s open apology?

To my family, friends, and fans:

The last time I wrote a letter like this, it was when I had the good fortune of attending a once in a lifetime experience by sharing an evening with some of America’s finest at the Marine Corps Ball about a year ago. I was so moved by that night, I wanted to share it with everyone. Unfortunately, this letter holds a different kind of weight for me.

Normally, as some of you know, I am (by nature) a pretty private person. So, I don’t really take it upon myself to comment on things that so often go misunderstood or something that has even shed any kind of dark light on what was and will always be one of the most special weeks of my life. But, in light of the recent events, I can’t fight the urge to clarify my thoughts and feelings on what has been a very upsetting portrayal of the people closest to me and myself. It’s not who I am as a professional or as a man.

I can’t help but think of one of the many great life lessons my Grandfather has taught me… He told me when I was younger that “Sometimes, you are confronted with challenges in life that perhaps are not your own. And, when those moments arise, the right thing for a man to do is accept that responsibility, whatever it may be, and face it with honesty and humility.”

So, I’m taking his advice. If for no other reason, than to clear the air so no one has to ever wonder how I feel about it.

I’d like to start off by saying that I don’t live my life making fun of people (unless, of course, I’m making fun of myself on SNL)… Especially, those who are less fortunate or those in need. I grew up with a family and community that instilled ideals in me like hard work, honesty and empathy. As a matter of fact, growing up in Tennessee, I was always taught that we as people, no matter what your race, sex, or stature may be, are equal. We have a saying there that “Everyone puts their pants on the same way(maybe this saying doesn’t apply to guys who wear kilts. Although, I’m sure they put theirs on the same way too…)”

As it pertains to this silly, unsavory video that was made as a joke and not in any way in mockery:

1. I had no knowledge of its existence. I had absolutely ZERO contribution to it.

2. My friends are good people. This was clearly a lapse in judgment which I’m sure no one who is reading this is exempt from. But, I don’t believe it was made to be insensitive. More so, I think it was made as a joke on me not having that many friends attending my own wedding(which IS kind of funny if you think about it).

3. Like many silly rumors that I have been made aware of about the week: It was NOT shown at my wedding.

4. I think we can all agree that it was distasteful, even though that was not it’s intention.

Once again, in the world that we live in where everyone thinks that they know everything, I want to be very clear… I am NOT defending the video. I agree with the overall consensus. But, to use another “pants” analogy… It seems that these days, misconception gets around the world before the actual truth even wakes up and gets it’s pants on.

I want to say that, on behalf of my friends, family, and associative knuckleheads, I am deeply sorry to anyone who was offended by the video. Again, it was something that I was not made aware of. But, I do understand the reaction and, by association, I am holding myself accountable.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts. It really is a blessing to be able to speak directly to my true fans so that you can know exactly where I stand.

-Justin

P.S. You can bet your ass that I’m having my friend do at least 100 hours of community service… Boom.

“My friends are good people”? what kinda people joke about this? people just like JT, who thinks he’s better than everybody. ugh

  • Girlfriend please

Justin Timberlake is a douche bag, he will continue being so. This is immature, cruel, and classless. Just because you’re very fortunate in life, doesn’t mean you have to ridicule homeless people.

Jessica Biel, your dress was hideous, by the way!

  • ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS

    ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they can hear, and see what your visually thinking
this is the absolute complete truth!!!!!
    .
The reason a lot of Asians have completely expressionless faces, segregate from everybody else-only associate with Asians and don’t associate with non Asians that much, are very untalkative, and are very unfriendly in general is to avoid accidentally revealing that they can read minds by accidentally showing a facial expression or dirty look when someone thinks, or visually pictures something in their mind they don’t like, find astonishing, or funny etc because those people might see that and really wonder what that was that just happened there and see the connection, and they might accidentally say something similar to what the person was just thinking and going to say. If they all associated with non Asians a lot more then there would be a lot more people around for them to accidentally show facial expressions when those people think things they don’t like etc, so they segregate and only associate with Asians so there won’t be anyone around for them to see that and have any accidents happen in the first place.
    .
Try thinking, best yet visually picturing in your mind something absolutely wild as you possibly can when you are around Asians, and try looking for Asians who give people particular looks, especially dirty looks for what appears to be for completely no reason.
    .
I know this may sound crazy, impossible and unbelievable, BUT IT ISN’T CRAZY WHEN IT’S TRUE
    .
YOU HAVE TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE!!!!!!!
THE WORLD HAS TO KNOW THIS!!!!!!!

  • ks

Great friends you have there JT. Just as arrogant as you!

  • anne

    ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Girlfriend please

How much you guys want to bet, Justin Timberlake’s PR are doing damage control… How long, before Justin “donates the money to a charity dealing with shelter/homeless people?” IT WON’T BE GENUINE!

  • try again

    Birds of a feather, Justin.

  • anne

    He is immature!

  • Anna

We all know Justin laughed along with all of his millionaire friends, thinking they were better than the people in that disgusting and humiliating video. They only got to be where they are beacuse they were lucky enough to have had oppotunuties that very few ever have. Not because they are special or more intresting than us ‘mere mortals’ but just luckier. Rich and famous people need to remember that they are no better than anyone else just because they have money. I have a feeling that both Justin and Jessica have lost a lot of fans becuase of this. Decent people dont like ‘jokes’ like this. For me personally it will always cast a shadow over them whenever i see them in magazines or on T.V.

  • DB

He is still such a douche bag even in an apology!!! He basically made his “apology” a joke….and about himself (as usual)

  • Tony

Girlfriend please, I always look forward to your comments lol…

  • EM

    RME

My goodness…Justin, you shoudln’t have done this. It’s YOUR freaking wedding day. You can do whatever you want and people have no idea what the context of the video was intended to be.

    I wouldn’t have said crap.

This is why the man kept stuff private. Comedians publicly insult weight, education, class, etc. You either like it or are offended but a person should be able to do what they please at their own wedding. Gheesh.

  • Tony

    @EM:

“This is why the man kept stuff private.”

Um, he sold his wedding pictures for 3 magazines!

  • Samantha

    @ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS:

So that’s why the Asians waiter at the Chinese restaurant keeps looking at me funny when I think things I find funny! I am freaked out now!!!!

  • porkfrieddrice

he should have just said like lilo would have that there is no video … his apology sounds so phony like him

  • Nancy Drewblood

There wedding will always be known as “the wedding with the homeless people” I guess money really can’t buy class, huh Justin?

  • Jesus

Actually… When Justin Timberlake was in Stockholm with Jessica Biel, not only did they NOT sign autographs for the fans waiting for them outside the hotel (which is fine) although what is not fine is that they appearantly were throwing strawberries at the fans waiting outside… So yeah, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake deserve each other. They are both douchebags.

  • lori

People please…..this is the type of scandal that will cost this fine actor and Oscar. No……..I can’t even type that with a straight face.

  • Ava

Is it me or do you sense guilt in this letter? I feel like he’s trying to be funny in order to compensate how guilty he feels. He also feels a bit embarrassed because he got caught. He doesn’t feel bad about the homeless people, just probably feeling exposed bc the world knows he laughs at those below him and he’s not remorseful about it at all… It’s more of a “top 10 reasons why I’m not a douche like everyone expects me to be”

  • Kim

If he was so upset by the video contents, why was he laughing? By all accounts, Justin laughed the hardest at his reception. The only reason why Justin is coming forward with this “I’m Sorry” because the backlash is hurting his popularity. I would NEVER laugh at a video like that, even if my friends created it. Justin is a loser and I am glad he is being called out for the loser he is!

  • nemo

oh, Justin, dear, this so-called-apology is more BS than your acting career.

  • xiopio

The video was tasteless, and inappropriate for sure. But why is he being crucified for something he had no control of? I’m sure he’s hating the fact that such a beautiful day for him is marred by this unfortunate event, and he had nothing to do with it…I’m sure his friend feels like sh$t!!! Justin is a lot of things and rubs people the wrong way, ok I get that, but clearly this was not his fault in any way shape or form, give the guy a break! (braising myself for all of the thumb downs, I’m prepared!)

  • Journalistic

The friend who made this video must be feeling like a jack ass now… In my opinion, the better PR move would have been to release an apology, have the friend make a generous donation to a homeless shelter, and have Justin match or double the donation.

  • bluenose

I don’t know why Justin married her. He’s gayer than Adam Lambert. Now I know why Jessica got those stupid bangs. She wants to be Carly Rae Jepsen. I see you haven’t yet removed Taylor Swift’s ugly Miss Piggy face from the top of your website. You must be desperate for #hits or readers. What’s the matter? Can’t you compete with that mentally challenged Cuban idiot?

  • not buying

    scumbags

  • Tips

I don’t believe him. And now I am wondering if Andy Samberg is a classless asshole too.

  • kingkayski

OMG !Mr .Me me me me me me me me me me ,strikes again!

  • Notafan

Lame. Basically I shouldn’t apologize because no one did anything wrong but since people are offended I will apologize to save face.

“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are”.

  • Freya

Oh please Justine is always a stand up guy he never meant to be offensive.

  • lexy hates bilson

That’s so nice of him to issue an apology!! He doesn’t need to issue an apology. He does a lot for charity so we KNOW he’s not that kind of person and this was a joke!!!
    -
Now if it had Jessica Simpson or Jennifer Lopez – then it wouldn’t be funny!

  • http://kennowen.blogspot.com/ Ganymede

The homeless have more pressing concerns than what the Timberlakes think of them.

  • timberfake

Gee, sorry, just’ is not good enough, punk azz milionaires… how about any one of these ideas…..

Serve dinner to the homeless in East LA on Thanksgiving,

Find those people and make apologies to them personally,

Donate your People’s magazine spread fee to the poor,

Open a transgender clinic at UCLA,

I’ll save my money for better people than you. Won’t see you movies, listen to your music, or buy your sh/it clothing. I should of known better when you threw strawberries at a crowd of us waitng for your autographs. Well here it is, your “Let Them Eat Cake” laughter at the downtrodden, the nameless, faceless people that supported your careers have come back to bite you both real hard in the azz. I hope nobody gives you the time a day or a nickel of their money, again.

  • Karlunker

I love how everyone is acting like they don’t make fun of people who they think are less than them and judging Justin. You know everyone does it sometimes. Life is not as black and white as many of you are making it out to be. Let he without sin cast the first stone.

  • Goren

Have not read all the comment.. but why does he keep saying..MY WEDDING. Why now OUR WEDDING.. or WE are this or WE are that..

Unless he actually married himself Jessica should be included.

    (scratching head)

  • cindy b

I have not seen the video in question , but I certainly would never find anything remotely funny about being homeless. If JT really did not now anything about what was on the video then I would have to say that his apology sounds genuine . If he was aware then shame on him and I hope that he donates a sizable amount of money to homeless shelters in the area where the homeless people were filmed.
It seems that JT and JB have ind of a reputation as being aloof , and if that is the case then they will get just what they deserve , people should not have tolerance for such behavior.

  • rose

I mean : nothing shocks me with this guy : HE’S KNOWN FOR BEING A DIRESPECTFUL ASSHOLE !

He just got married I think it’s more than time for him to man up and own that he’s just that A STUPID MAN !

  • JT is a Douche

Why? because this is the same man that called out Britany about her virginity ( which i forgave since they were teenagers and he was hurt) , threw Janet J under the bus and humiliated Cameron. This is a good friend of JT’s so for him to have this videotaped he knew JT would laugh about it. It only backfired because someone taped it and again JT thinks about JT’s reputation since he felt he needed to comment about it during his honeymoon.
And once again threw someone under the bus to save his reputation.

  • JT is a Douche

I would like to add for those defending this douche. The homeless was paid $40.. How far can that go in the US. Food for a week? if you ate at a fast food restaurant. I hope they sue the shite out of him and his friend.

  • DB

Good Lord we live in a politically sensitive world!

Wish the world would lighten up a little.

  • taz

zero contribution means pi8ss all — you know they found it funny because celebrities have a sick sense of humour. This is just damage control because it got out.
    -
They disgust me.. but you know everyone will forgive them – heres hoping the recession hits them in the future and they’re out on their asses!!

  • ANG

I think that the video was poor taste buuuuuuuuut I hate that people are reacting like nobody has ever said or done something wrong… come on!!!
It was a PRIVATE affair and not a political/public statement.

I would be very worried if this kind of news was from someone that actually had an impact in the country policy or other kind of power to change/modify laws…but he´s a singer!

Yeah he may be a douche or whatever but come on people …some of the comments right here are really insulting so you know… hypocrite much?

  • Nyc, fashionista

Justin is a douce! Actually a double-douche!! This was clearly evident with the Janet Jackson scandal when she got ALL the heat and he stood back and did nothing. He simply is showing his true colors AGAIN!

  • Sadie

Only Americans care about this kind of thing. He didn’t make it so why do you guys care?

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

Douchebag people would only do something they think their friend would find amusing, so Timberlake must be equally douchey

  • elanor

    @[~Fug Face Man!ston~]:I completely agree!!!!

@ANG: — ‘I hate that people are reacting like nobody has ever said or done something wrong’ — i might be wrong but i don’t think i’d find watching the homeless at my wedding amusing or even morally acceptable. This is more then a mistake, it’s showing millionaires in their true light and i’m glad it’s out.

  • toni

@timberfake: You were one of the fans they threw strawberries at?
On Justin…sorry I don’t find it no where sincere and I think he is an asshole. I sort of knew it when he was in his wannabe Michael Jackson stage and threw Janet under the bus letting her get all of the heat (and she still hasn’t fully recovered yet) when he had something to do with it too.
He has a huge ego and thinks he’s better than what he is when he’s not (he wasn’t even the best singer in NSYNC. JC had 100 times the voice of Justin and that is the truth).
I don’t find anything amusing in laughing at a video featuring homeless people and his friends actions of making the video in the first place lets me know the type of person he is.

  • hm

did he (or rather his management) really write it up like that? i mean… it’s fu*cking hysterical.

    1. i’m an idiot

    2. It got out & now i have to say i had nothing to do with it except i found it funny but shh.. don’t tell anyone

    3. BOOM? =/

  • Penny

what kind of jerk are you and your bride to be if your cousin & her husband/friend that that you will like to watch this kind of video at your wedding?! Idiots, you deserve each other!

  • kiki32

Oh, Great article! Love will make your life better, My boyfriend and I both think so, He is a handsome biker. We met via === riderdating C0M ===it is dating and friendship site designed specifically for bikers. It’s worth a try!

  • ugh

these two morons made their guests sign a confidentiality agreement before the wedding. Obviously it didn’t stick.
Whats worse is that people (aka insane fangirls) find the letter to be adorable. Personally it looks like a 14 yr old wrote it..
