Elizabeth Pena To Play Sofia Vergara's Mother on 'Modern Family'

Sofia Vergara steps out of her SUV as she arrives at the UCLA Medical Center on Wednesday (November 7) in Westwood, Calif.

The 40-year-old actress was joined by her fiance Nick Loeb.

Elizabeth Pena is set to play Sofia‘s character Gloria’s mother, Pilar, on the hit show Modern Family, EW reports.

Stephanie Beatriz is also set to make an appearance as Gloria’s sister, Sonia.

“There’s a bit of a competitive relationship between Gloria and her sister that will be fun,” executive producer Christopher Lloyd said of the sibling rivalry in the upcoming episode.

“The mother is the formidable, domineering character in the family, and has a complicated relationship with Jay (Ed O’Neill),” he added. “I’m not sure she’s ever completely accepted Jay, and they lock horns in the episode.”

Catch Elizabeth and Stephanie in episode twelve, title “Fulgencio,” airing on ABC later this year.
