Ben Affleck Talks Adapting 'The Stand'

Ben Affleck gets into his car after doing some shopping on Sunday (November 18) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 40-year-old actor, who was recently named GQ‘s Filmmaker of the Year, talked with the mag about his troubles with adapting the book The Stand into a film.

“It’s not ready; it’s not good enough yet. Right now we’re having a very hard time,” Ben said. “But I like the idea—it’s like The Lord of the Rings in America. And it’s about how we would reinvent ourselves as a society. If we started all over again, what would we do?”

Affleck, 40, witnessed his father’s tough time and how he failed to make a mark in the industry. This encouraged the actor to never fall down.

“I lived with this tremendous fear of failure because my father was a playwright and a director, and I think he did a couple of things as a child as an actor as well, and… he failed, basically. He didn’t do what he said he was going to do,” GQ magazine quoted Affleck as saying.”

What a assh*le to say that about his father. Despicable!

The Stand was already made into a TV movie. It’s one of the better film adaptations of a King book so I’m not sure why he’s redoing it.

IF BEN AFFLECK THINKS HE WILL BE WORKING IN MY INDUSTRY IN THE FUTURE HE IS OUT OF HIS GODDAMN MIND!!! YOU WILL BE SUED AND KILLED FOR STEALING MY WORK!!! YOU WILL PAY IN THIS LIFE AND THE NEXT!!!

In the GQ article Ben is not insulting his father. His is referring to how his father became an alcoholic due to the pressure of not being sucessful as an actor and writer. Ben’s father cheated on his mother and had a gambling problem as well. Ben’s mother Chris throw him out of the house when she saw how their father was affecting her kids life. Ben didn’t speak to his father for over 12 years.

Ben has done many interviews over the years about his relationship with his father. Ben reconnected with his father when he moved to Hollywood. He said they had a long talk about the past. His father told Ben had would not support him on his quest to make in the entertainment business because he thought it was a though / hard business to make a living and most people self-destruct like he did.

Ben father refused to go to The Oscars when Ben and Matt won for writing Good Will Hunting. Ben father worked as a Drug and Alcohol counselor before many years. He told Ben he could not put himself in the Hollywood enivorment again because he couldn’t handle his failer.
Staying away helps him stay sober.

Ben does have a relationship with his father. Ben father has done interviews in the past saying how he is proud of both of his sons. He does not talk about their careers. He supports him as men and fathers.
