Matthew McConaughey: 'I'm Not Being Starved'

Matthew McConaughey steps out to take a break while on the set of his upcoming film The Dallas Buyers Club on Sunday (November 11) in New Orleans, La.

The 43-year-old actor recently talked about having to drop 38 pounds to star in the Jean-Marc Vallee-directed film.

“I feel fine. I really do. I got the means to lose the weight in a really healthy way,” Matthew expressed. “I’m eating fresh fish. I’m just eating small amounts. I’m not being starved. I’m taking care of myself. I’ve been checked and my levels are fine. I’m as healthy as can be. The real health challenge is when you put (the weight) back on.”

People need to stop worrying about mcConaughey. He’s very health-conscious, so of course he’s doing this with the help of a physician. Adrian Brody did the same thing for the pianist and he was pefectly fine and healthy during and after. People should really be worried about Jared Leto though imo. He’s actually starving himself.

# 2

DAMN. Jared Leto has a role in this movie as well and he almost looks worse than Matthew.
And how on earth did they lose all this way “in a healthy way”, just look at his face, there is no way in HELL they are not starving themselves

i meant weight…. :/

# 4

i wish i could lose weight like that!!!

# 5

He really wants an Oscar huh.

# 6

He looks like a 70s porn star

I totally agree with Jennay’s post above. Jared Leto looks even thinner than Matthew McConaughey! I give both of them a lot of credit for being able to lose that kind of weight for the movie. I couldn’t do it myself.

# 8

Jared Leto and Matthew both look nasty and horrible.

whether this movie is good or not … it is sad. who actually enjoys looking at pair of walking skeletons? this has gone too far.

something is wrong with producers and studios in Hollywood.

They rely too much on superficial things such as losing weight or shaving your hair as opposed to actually acting, and they have no problem pressuring a person to undergo such extreme measure for reasons that are too minor.

It’s like they don’t see actors as people who should have dignity and respect as human beings and just use them like props and objects.

I feel for him that he felt this was necessary for a job.

He’s an idiot!

Hopefully his body can go back to normal, but losing weight like this causes muscle loss, which is bad. It’s odd to see such a fit guy look emaciated. Many actors have done this though (Christian Bale, however took it TOO far for The Machinist, this is called pulling a “Daniel Day Lewis” as Lewis has done this more times than anyone for roles.
