Katie Holmes Brings Lovely Naturalness, Raves 'THR'

Katie Holmes steps out of a car to pick up her daughter Suri on Friday (November 30) in New York City.

The night before, the 33-year-old actress was all dressed up for the opening night of her new Broadway play Dead Accounts.

Many critics were very positive about Katie‘s work after watching her perform in the new play.

“[Katie] brings a lovely naturalness to her first starring Broadway role, along with frazzled warmth and judicious glimmers of a more brittle edge,” THR‘s David Rooney shared.

    Some of the reviews were about her bringing good food for the cast or about her eating habits, lol. Most commented on how boring she was with only one good line during the wine scene. Whatever! I would not watch her in anything. There are plenty women who are packaged with better looks, class/poise, tall/thin, educated, talented and entertaining in local towns to be amazed with than this Katie. She needs a different career, lol, lol.

    Come off it Jared. Most of the reviews were lukewarm at best regarding her acting.

    Love the video of the opening night in the Daily Mail, she’s so lovely.
    I think it’s the play itself, the critics objected to, believe she got 2 standing ovations, during the show, so sounds like the audience appreciated it.

    It wasn’t Katie who got the standing ovations–and they weren’t standing–just lots of applause. The first round went to the box of wine she took out of the refrigerator and the second one was for something Leo did.

    The reviews have been saying how boring she is. Just Jared must be paid by her publicist to exaggerate…No one is paying to see this woman on Broadway.

    I just don’t like her. She’s boring and not a good actress.

    Her publicist is working really hard these days to promote her as a serious actress. The truth is Katie is just a tabloid star. She is getting buzz because she is a tabloid star not because of her acting talent. To say that she did well on the play is an overstatement, her acting in dead accounts was just like her acting in Dawson’s Creek. If that’s what everyone think as a good performance then something is wrong.

    Love her jacket. She did great in the play, considering the fact that she didn’t have much to work with. I don’t see why people are so eager to see her fail. Go Katie!

    @Tiff: Please someone! Tell me! Is it not possible to get coaching lessons “to hone your craft”? I mean the reviews DID tell her everything she needs to work on…

    @bebe:

    She had lots to work with in AMS, but her reviews weren’t great there either. And if you saw her in it–you would have known the only reason she was in it was because she was Mrs. Tom Cruise. She was awful compared to the talented pool of actresses that could have been chosen. Lithgow, Weist and Patrick out acted her ten to one! For me at least, it is not about her failing, it is about her taking opportunities away from others that have far more talent.

    Her reviews for All My Sons were mixed. There were some that were negative, but also some that were very positive. I think ny magazine even said that she gave the best performance in the show. Plus many critics have said that she was much better in Dead Accounts than she was in All My Sons so at least she’s improving. I agree that she’s not the best actress out there, but I don’t think she’s any worse than a lot of other actors who are working consistently. Still don’t get why she seems to generate so much negativity but to each their own.

    From Daily Mail:
    The Dawson’s Creek lovely has previously explained how alike she is to her character in the comedy, saying: ‘I’m like Lorna in that my values guide me in an instinctual way, like, “That feels weird” or “I better send a thank you.”‘
    .

    So it was her values that instinctually lead her to Scientology and Tom’s money?

    @toria: “For me at least, it is not about her failing, it is about her taking opportunities away from others that have far more talent.” – Very true! We don’t want to see her fail, it is just that she is given opportunities just because she’s famous – “tabloid famous” – and not because she is a great actress. Their are many actors there who are far better than her that deserves to be given the opportunities she’s given.

    Hamlet Says:

    She’s not taking anybody’s opportunities, #19. It is pretentious of you to say that she should just up and quit doing what she loves just because someone may be better in a role. Blame the people that cast her and MAKE A PROFIT off of her.

  21. 21
    toria Says:

    @Hamlet:

    No it isn’t pretentious to say she is taking away opportunities from other talented actors. She is on Broadway and there are a limited number of shows on Broadway a year–not like movies where anyone can shoot one with a camera. Furthermore, unfortunately for Katie, so far DA is not exactly raking in the bucks. The theater is only 62-65 percent sold out. Maybe that will change next week, but so far compared to the other Broadway shows, it is in the bottom 20 percent.
    Personally Hammie, I don’t like to pay big bucks to see a Broadway show and support mediocre talent like Katie. Sorry if that offends you, but when I spend $150 plus on a ticket I expect to see actors that can, well, act!
