    Rachel Weisz is mad random though.

    @Claudice:

    Rachel Weisz was amazing in “The Deep Blue Sea”. Best performance of the year.

    I was gonna say Matthew McConaughey looks much better already, but then I realized it’s an old photo…..

    Rose Says:

    Honsetly, I am really surprised. I mean, she is good actress to me, really, but I will never say she will win that.

    Loved Rachel Weisz’s performance in “The Deep Blue Sea”. Happy she won:)

    I’m so glad she’s finally getting recognition for Deep Blue Sea. Her work is beautiful!

    Rachel winning is the biggest upset since, I don’t know, Hope Davis maybe. I’m actually happy NYFCC decided to vote for performances and movies they felt strongly about, not for choices Oscar prognosticators want them to vote for. The Oscar race has become pathetically predictable because everyone is trying to vote for what prognosticators think will win, not what they think deserves to win. So yeah, thank you NYFCC for injecting some much needed life back into the race.

    bought and paid for and usually a predictor of oscar nominations just ask Joanne Woodward each time she won an NYFCC award she was nominated for an Oscar though when she won the Oscar she wasn’t nominated for the NYFCC

    Lauren Says:

    Isn’t this the award that most accurately predicts the Oscar winners for the year? Not sure about Matt M. winning Supporting over the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) but the rest I agree with.

    congrats on Kathryn and ZDT,but srsly? I don’t like the choice of best actor.

    Passport Stamps Says:

    @Lauren:

    Not really. Albert Brooks won last year and he wasn’t even nominated for the Oscar. Their best actress choices are also very daring and hardly match the taste of Oscar voters. Last year was an exception because Streep won and went on to win the Oscar.

    Phantom Says:

    I think Rachel Weisz can be okay in some roles, but she’s certainly no where near the levle of DD Lewis – best living actor.

  13. 13
    Kevin Says:

    @Phantom:

    I think Rachel Weisz is just as good an actor as Daniel Day Lewis. Just as consistent as well in terms of performance.

    Tessa Says:

    Congrats to Rachel Weisz. She’s one of my favorites together with Cate Blanchett. And to Daniel Day-Lewis, everybody know how great he is.

    nat Says:

    @Lauren:
    No. Last year the only category they predicted right is Best Actress in a leading role,Meryl Streep.

    Frozoid Says:

    Lincoln was NOT good. Disneyfied and hokey. Daniel Day Lewis lacked passion and Sally Field was playing herself.

  17. 17
    Bond Girl Says:

    Rachel is a great actress, and a decent woman.

  18. 18
    Lily Says:

    Wow, I’m glad that “Amour” got some recognition. Michael Haneke is a great director. I’m totally crossing my fingers for the Academy Awards!

  19. 19
    Phantom Says:

    Deep Blue Sea was an anachronistic period piece. Didn’t anyone feel how old-fashioned and lame it was? A woman who wants to be independent and make her own choices ends up totally F***cked. Will say that Tom Hiddleston was thoroughly, thoroughly excellent in that. Chilling and cold and damaged. He should have gotten the recognition.

  20. 20
    Viv Says:

    @Phantom – but the fact that Deep Blue Sea made you feel so strongly about it, means that it was successful on a level; I thought for a period piece made in today’s time — it really captured the situation of a woman stuck in her circumstance/situation and drowns in her obsession/love for her lover. Rachel’s performance was honest and brutal of how a woman goes through this process of loosing it – the fragility and human flaws she portrayed are impressive. Best actress is not about who is your favorite but who portrayed/act and brought their character to LIFE. Wonder if she will get at least a nomination for this too?

    Lolita Says:

    MATHEW WON AN AWARD FOR THAT CRAPPY MOVIE? SOMEONE PAID FOR THAT.

  22. 22
    Melanie Says:

    @Frozoid: You must be high. DDL lacked passion? It’s called character acting and Lincoln was a calm, collected individual. Anybody who says Daniel Day Lewis is not worthy of yet another Best actor is just rooting for another actor in the category or plain drunk.

  23. 23
    Hellen Says:

    The NYFCC Awards are best known because they have almost the same members from the Academy. So basically if you win one of these, don’t be surprised if you take the Oscar too. Rachel is a surprise – I have read some predictions and nobody considered her as a favorite. However, I saw the trailer of her movie (and I will see the movie too) and she is great.

    ana Says:

    i love Rachel since my 11 and i have to say that there is nothing wrong with the fact she won the award because in my opinion she got ignored for her remarkable performance in TDBS ……. but i want to be objective and say “people come down” they are just some awards, subjective, stupid awards and they just hepl actors to get better credit…..so do not argue…..there is nothing LIKE BEST ACTOR OR ACTRESS……

    sorry for my english i am from Slovakia ;-)

    hello Says:

    Rachel is an outstanding actress and totally deserved to win. Her and Cate Balnchett rule in the dramatic actress department.
