Taylor Swift: I Don't Know How To Make Relationships Last!

Taylor Swift is gorgeous on the cover of Cosmopolitan UK‘s January 2013 issue, on newsstands tomorrow!

Here’s what the 22-year-old country singer had to share with the mag:

On relationships: “How to make them last. I’ve never had a really long relationship, so I have no idea what that’s like. Wish me luck for the future!”

On love: “I don’t know. I think that idea of love I hope for is that you learn a lesson and you don’t have to learn it twice. But the song I Knew You Were Trouble is about when I knowingly made the same mistake twice. I couldn’t resist it – there’s that temptation to push yourself into a risky situation with someone who is going to hurt you, and that’s what that song is about: not trusting your own instincts and ignoring all the red flags.”

On if her exes have contacted her about her songs: “Yes. Only the vocal ones though. The ones that love the sound of their own voice, whether it be an email or text message… or barrage of text messages. But it’s only happened a few times with the ones that really were choice human beings. The thing is, they’re just guessing that the song is about them. I put details in my songs but never first and last names, and I definitely don’t include social-security numbers!”

On making public appearances: “Yeah, I have really nervous moments. I get overwhelmed and intimidated by the idea of putting on a performance on TV – and I get nervous before releasing a new album.”

“I don’t know how to make a relationship last.” Tell me something I don’t already know. Taylor Swift needs to stop belaboring this relationship thing– golly.

Some things are simply not meant to be. It’s not like people who are in lasting relationships work awesome magic!

  • Warren

Quit dating the loser celebs. They R no better than U. Then you will find a lasting relationship.

“Only the vocal ones though. The ones that love the sound of their own voice” Oh….so you, Taylor?

  • Sam

Finally! Now she needs to admit that she is a $lut who has a low self esteem and is needy so that’s why she can’t keep a reletionship

  • kk

Who could take this annoying bytch for any stretch of time?

  • Leenah

She’s everywhere, can we all have a Taylor Swift break? Maybe she should grow up and then start a relationship.

  • terri

This chick has had more “lovers” then a 50 year old. For someone who acts all innocent umm she’s not.

  • NOT

sets such a wonderful example for tween and teeny fans,
    her mission is to corupt

  • Lisa

Taylor is like a used handbag. It loses its shine and sparkle with each use.

  • elle

Can she ever talk about something other than relationships? The interviewers are always asking the same questions and its getting old.

  • an opinion

Here is a clue on how to keep a relationship. Have a friendship with the guy first. Become friends with the guy before you start holding hands, kissing and buying a home next to his families home.

  • Aimee

I wouldn’t have a problem with Taylor dating this young dude if he didn’t look like a 10 year old. What is up with this chick? Has she lost her marbles and why is her staff allowing her to do this to herself. She looks like an idiot.

  • XxXxX

Welllllllll…… I kinda sorta noticed that!

“Taylor Swift: I Don’t Know How To Make Relationships Last!” That’s the understatement of the year! America’s sweetheart for you…

  • jazzy

“I put details in my songs but never first and last names”
    what about dear john?

  • Britney

I am getting sick of Taylor’s interviews. It’s always the same thing, relationships, love, writing breakup songs, human emotions, I don’t know what love is, blah blah blah blah.

  • Creed

If you think all your exes are bad people that means you are one.

  • Jody

Taylor always has an excuse and an explanation! Dude u put Jon Mayer’s name in a song, and made it obvious that it was about him! “But I dont put first and last names!” Who cares, you put his name in it, and made it obvious that it was about him!

  • Oh Taylor….

I have just diagnosed Taylor with relationship addiction. It is an actual diagnosis that people must receive counseling for. This describes her perfectly:

Relationship addicts live in a world of paradoxes that leaves them feeling they have no way out. They desperately want to get close to someone, but end up with a person whose problems make closeness impossible. They seek security, but end up with someone who always leaves the back door open for a quick get-away.

Relationship addicts crave unconditional love, but live in constant fear of abandonment if they don’t live up to their own impossible standards. They want to be free to love, but often trap themselves in a relationship. Drowning in the whirlpool of their own emotions, they turn to a rescuer who cannot swim.

  • Yaddle

Miss Goody Goody Granny Pants boring us with her woes again.

  • Creed

@jazzy: ikr, she is trying to defend herself with BS excuses. What does she want? a gold star for not making the title name “Dear John Mayer”!?

  • http://!!! SAM

    Big nasty SLUT.

  • KT

@elle: That’s because it’s the only thing she ever sings about.

  • K

Had to laugh at this little bit, “the ones that love the sound of their own voice”. She just described herself perfectly. Still bitchin’ and moaning and all these boys seem to have happily moved on from her. Who does this pathetic girl think she is?

  • Rhonny

@Britney: Come on, really? If you’re tired of interviews with her, stop reading them! Be an adult. If you don’t like someone, don’t waste your time on them. And really, she’s just a young girl, and she has made quite an empire. Like her or not, whatever she’s doing is working for her. Quit bullying the poor girl!

  • aeks

I don’t think it’s really cute to flaunt that you can’t make a relationship last. it’s actually kind of sad. even more sad that you try to make money off of them by basically airing out their business. way to keep it classy.

  • tennisgirl

I used to really like Taylor, honestly. But she needs to stop. Just stop… everything. I think that’s the only way to put it.

  • LJ

@Sam: I have to say, this is really pathetic! You’re just a bully! You don’t know this person yet you’re bullying her. What a terrible example you lead. And regardless, this isn’t the dark ages. Women are allowed to have a social life. That word—like your perspective—is outdated.

  • Ana

Shocking, utterly shocking reporting Cosmopolitan magazine.

  • dani

    @bedhopper: idiot

  • Whitney

Not being a stalkerish crazy bitch would be a start!

  • ughh

She reminds me of the nerdy emotional girl with “Feelings” from ‘Mean Girls”

  • Frenchy

I Don’t Know How To Make Relationships Last! should be the title of her next album.

  • Jokergurl

“I Don’t Know How to Make Relationships Last”…Well at least she’s aware of this fact it seems. She will do fine, she made 57 million last year and she seems pretty grounded considering who she is. Although it might help if she eases up on the autobiographical anti-ex boyfriend songs for a while; I think its wearing a little thin.

  • Cute pie

Why not try this , she is a young mature woman that knows what she wants and that is smart enough early to what is wrong for her. What she not is to be bossed around by the wrong guy! Boys are not the answer to your personel happiness You go girl you are not cheap!

  • emma

taylor swift is the female version of john mayer (it’s not a compliment if you knew john mayer’s record on womanizing)

  • James

Wow. I’m shocked that Taylor Swift is only 22 years old. For someone who has had like 50 boyfriends you would think she was older.

  • Me3

She has annoyed me for years. The hair swinging and fake shock at winning an award are both obnoxious. She seems like a nice enough girl who dresses and acts appropriately, but she talks too much about relationships and seems to be obsessed with finding a man. Chill Taylor. You don’t need a man. You are very young with plenty of time for children. Maybe you should stop trying so hard. (that song that was nominated for a grammy is horribly annoying too.)

  • Effy

@Oh Taylor….: As a current psychology major, you’re dead on. She actually displays a real, psychological disorder called “Dependency Personality Disorder.” She honestly relies on others (men) to fulfill her emotional needs. I’d rather be my pathetic, 22 year-old self that’s only had three boyfriends than be her.

  • emma

Taylor Swift has now gone through a slew of boyfriends that include Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner,John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor Kennedy, whom she hooked up with shortly after his mother’s tragic death. A pattern is emerging and it isn’t pretty.

Not to mention those guys she flirted with like Adam Young of Owl City, Tim Tebow, Cory Monteith, Will Anderson and those names I can’t remember anymore.

Behind that beautiful soul could be the heart of a maneater, an irresistible woman who chews and spits out men after using them for some sort of gain… like breakup songs!

  • Bex

If you want Swift to go away, quit talking about her and commenting on posts like this. Eventually her popularity will die down.

  • Elisabeth

I know that this has nothing to do with her relationship issues, but she seemed very nice at the Grammy Nomination Awards in Nashville. I was there sitting next to the hall that she would walk in and out of (usually the vistor hockey team tunnel for the Nashville Predators/Bridgestone Arena) and she was really nice to all the fans. If she was walking back in the tunnel and had time, she would sign autographs and take photos if fans asked her to. LL Cool J just kept walking. I understand that Taylor may seem fake or unlikable at times, but living in Nashville where my grandfather was heavily involved in the music back in the 1930s and 40s, I’ve heard my fair share of stories about country music artists. I do not recall ever hearing one bad thing about Ms. Swift. I know that Taylor hangs out around the city of Hendersonville (a bit north of Nashville) a lot. Which as a Tennessean, is a good thing because that is just where the normal people hang out, not the rich. Some country artists with their noses up in the air (I will not name who) only stay around the rich parts of middle Tennessee such as Brentwood or Franklin (the Beverly Hills of Tennesee). I’m sorry, I try not to keep up too much with celebrities, but I just wanted to say that when she is in Nashville, she is very open to the “average Joe” type of people. One last thing, I use to go the a hair salon over on West End (close to where she lives) and my stylist said that she and the other workers would see Taylor walking down the street to the local coffee shop. I’m just saying that she is not the type of celebrity who tries their hardest to avoid contact with the “peasants.” I only know a lot of info on one other country music singer and they as hard as they can to avoid the regular people.

  • Elisabeth

I apologize, in my last line I accidently left out one word. I should have said, “and they as hard as they can to avoid the regular people.” I left out the word “try.” I’m very sorry for the error.

  • pinkydoo

I think she needs to do a remake of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain.”

  • June

    Boring whore.

  • jonas

It’s such an irony that Swift bashing John Mayer being a player, then turn about does exactly the same thing. The only difference is at least Mayer doesn’t build his career on it. Swifty, quit being a bitter, vindictive bitch and take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror. Karma is a bitch, you’ll reap what you sow sooner or later.

  • Val

“The thing is, they’re just guessing that the song is about them. I put details in my songs but never first and last names”
Yeah..because nobody knows who Dear John is about..
She’s an idiot that just needs to grow up already, I actually feel sorry for the guys that fall for her.
