Celebrities React to Instagram's New Terms of Service; Company Changes Plans After Backlash

Celebrities are sounding off on Twitter today after Instagram announced a new policy change in which they will have the right to sell every user’s photos without giving any compensation to the photographer.

The company was quick to respond to the outrage with a message from co-founder Kevin Systrom, who said a newer update will take place in 30 days.

“Our intention in updating the terms was to communicate that we’d like to experiment with innovative advertising that feels appropriate on Instagram,” says Systrom. “Instead it was interpreted by many that we were going to sell your photos to others without any compensation. This is not true and it is our mistake that this language is confusing.”

    hahaha instagram back-peddling .YEAH RIGHT. Who, in this day in age, would be happy to give their privacy away? Pssssh bye instagram! Don’t care what you say – you’ll probably re-word the policy but still have the intention of using photos w/o consent.

    @Tool: totally agree. now people seem to be hermits living in mums basement not making real friends and bullying behind a screen. Now I dont mean everyone, but its obviously some sort of epidemic; this socially inept behavior. no technology can beat a fresh air nature walk in the middle of spring. we are so disconnected anymore, its sickening. I dont want to talk of recent tragedies but….

    @African Girl: EXACTLY!!! all social media does is make fangirls believe celebrities give a sh&t about them – and honestly, why don’t they get behind funding public schools, or health care the way they get behind their stupid fu*cking instagram

    @African Girl:
    This. I have no form of social media (no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and I am completely happy about it.
    I’ve always felt technology brought the best and worst out of people. Young kids today do not know how to communicate face to face anymore (you don’t know how many times I’ve been out with my friends and all they do around each other is text instead of talking).
    Also no one goes out and walk and enjoy the outside anymore. I remember being young and wanting to go out, not stay inside on a computer and on social media.
    Social media has also created one of the worst things to happen which are stans. I promise stanning for someone who could give a damn about you and wouldn’t even spit on you if you were on fire is a problem.

    @Toni: agree with you, im in my 20s and i never played in doors, and im thankful for it.. i think the worst problem is kids getting away with calling each other slu*ts and degrading people they know they couldn’t in the real world.. i wonder how they’re going to interact with people in 10 yrs..

    I love it when a big conglomerate thinks it’s got people in the palm of their hands and the people decide to overthrow them. LOVE IT! Love big companies shaking in their boots. They need to realise that their success is made by the people and only determined by the people.

    As for social media… tell me about it! It all seems like one big popularity contest! Everyone wants to display their whole life on the internet. Infact, I actually miss Myspace because at least that site could introduce you to new music. And FB is creepy… any site that asks for your whole name and where you went to school and where you work etc…. that’s not safe.
