Here’s the film synopsis: India Stoker (Wasikowska) was not prepared to lose her father and best friend Richard (Dermot Mulroney) in a tragic auto accident. The solitude of her woodsy family estate, the peace of her tranquil town, and the unspoken somberness of her home life are suddenly upended by not only this mysterious accident, but by the sudden arrival of her Uncle Charlie (Goode), whom she never knew existed. When Charlie moves in with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evie (Kidman), India thinks the void left by her father’s death is finally being filled by his closet bloodline. Soon after his arrival, India comes to suspect that this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives. Yet instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless young woman becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Mark your calendars, Stoker is out in theaters on January 20, 2013!

Based on trailors, the cinematography is amazing. I just want to see something different.

  • Lulu

I want to see Nicole as a very first female vallain in a Bonds Film. No weapons carried, just very cunning fox type person, plotting and planning to destroy things. Of course, she has to hire some mercenaries to carry out the dirty work. Or,not directly against Bond, but to get vegence against M.

  • YS

The trailer for this movie looks intriguing. Can’t wait.

    Cate Blanchett
    Rachel Weisz
    Renee Zellweger
    Thandie Newton
    Juliann Moore
    Marion Cotillard
All of the above actresses match and/or exceed Nicole Kidman in terms of acting and screen presence.

  • Lou

This post should mention that this film was directed by the great Chan-wook Park, who directed the original “Oldboy”, a masterpiece, and “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance”, two films which, unfortunately, Hollywood has decided to remake.
Mia Wasikowska is one of the most interesting young actresses at the moment.

  • LOL

    @Not Even:

From your list, Julianne & Thandie haven’t won an Oscar, so to say everyone on your list matches or exceeds Nicole is false!

  • Yoda

Wentworth Miller was an English grad from Princeton or Yale before he did errands for HW studio execs, which in turn was before he landed prison break. Smart guy (and closeted, apparently – trivia). Mia is an excelletn actor; however, have to agree witht he poster up there, Nicole’s lip area looks very stiff. Matthew Goode also very solid.

  • Reading is Fundamental

“All of the above actresses match and/or exceed Nicole Kidman in terms of acting and screen presence.”

    No mention of Awards.

  • Not Even

@LOL: Oh forgot one other favorite – Charlize Theron – who currently sporting nice natural fade for her role in Mad Max –

  • TC

Watch the Stoker trailer and you will hear the venomous words coming out of Nicole’s mouth but unfortunately, the dialogue doesn’t match her frozen facial expression. However, in this instance, her blood shot eyes do work in her favour. Kidman’s crazy face is the truly scary aspect of this movie.

  • ..

Kidman playing an emotionally unstable mother. No acting required by Nicole for this role … just ask Bella and Conor.

  • :)

… We’ve heard in the past that Nicole Kidman is not the most pleasant person to work with or for. The 2008 Andrew Morton Tom Cruise book painted her as cold and moody, and described how demanding and particular she could be. He wrote “If the jet wasn’t stocked with Beluga caviar and all the trimmings she appeared deeply irritated, exhibiting a jaded petulance. Nicole often seemed bored or disenchanted with her life as a Hollywood star, expecting a luxurious lifestyle as her birthright. She had no sense of wonderment about the world. So many wonderful things happened to her, but she had an enduring sense of boredom.”

According to a source on the Stoker set, Nicole won’t even let crew members talk to her. Nicole Kidman’s shooting her new horror film “Stoker” in Nashville, but crew members swear the real horror is Nicole! Reports [a] backstage spy…”Nicole is a real witch, and they’ve nicknamed her ‘Ice Princess.’ No one’s even allowed to speak to her, except for primary cast members, the director or producers. The other day she requested a glass of water and was furious when the person brought her water with ice in it. ‘I don’t drink ice water,’ Nicole bellowed, demanding a room temperature refill. Everyone’s walking around on eggshells to make sure ‘Her Majesty’ is not displeased.” In another bizarre incident, a prop person moved an umbrella she was using in a scene from one side of a table to the other. When they began to rehearse the scene, Nicole threw a fit over the minor re positioning and read the poor guy the riot act …

  • Dabu

If I may point out– most of Morton’s book was second hand gossip. Cruise told everyone not to cooperate with Morton. So anyone who spoke probably had an axe to grind.

Secondly every famous actor/actress out there has gotten the “won’t even let crew members talk to him/her” line. Including Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise among others. If you do your research you will find directors, producers, actors who have worked with her and crew all have said complimentary things about her. In fact, one of the British newspapers reported Nicole was furious on the set of Stoker — when she found out the extras were outside and freezing. She made them stop production and get some heaters or coats for them since they’d been standing outside for hours.

Similar gossip about Diva behavior in blind vices, un-named sources etc. has surfaced about Pitt, Clooney, Cruise, Holmes, Theron, Berry and many many others.

when people are unwilling to attach their names to gossip and heresay it is hard to take them seriously.

  • toria

The comments on her being an Ice Princess appeared in the National Enquirer first. And anyone with half a brain knows most of their stuff is made up anyhow. One of their high ranking editors was on 60 Minutes I believe and even said they made up a lot. So I would hardly put stock in anything they say.

And as another poster said–Cruise wouldn’t let anyone talk to Morton on record, so it was really easy for him to trash anyone he wanted with anonymous sources.

  • M

So many dark secrets in Tommy Girl’s closet, is it a wonder he ordered people not to cooperate with Morton. But luckily there are always some who don’t give a rats about Cruise and Kidman and are willing to tell it like it is.

  • :)

It was reported Kidman was apparently upset on the set of ‘Grace Kelly’ and organised rugs, etc for freezing extras. Nice PR move Nickers, probably done to counter the negative fallout from the Stoker film set.

  • Louise

Everything I have read the last few years about Nicole is that she is very kind and generous to the people working on her films. Keith Urban is a very humble and wonderful man, perhaps his habits have wore off on her. Maybe life with Tom Cruise was a bit tense and unreal.

  • Lynn

I have no doubt Kidman will be more than convincing in this role. Her wooden acting and maniacal face are perfect for a B grade horror movie.

  • Jen

I have watched the Stoker trailer and here is the dilemma. Nicole’s mouth is now her ONLY facial feature that moves. Consequently, the viewer is required to listen very intently to the dialogue to try and understand the emotion behind the words. Visually, the only thing you end up concentrating on is her moving, slug like lips and the whole spectre then becomes quite disturbing and ridiculous.

  • Josh

Wow. So many trolls here. So many vicious, nasty comments. I mean, why talk about her “lip area”? WTH? And gossip from the National Enquirer? Seriously? Nicole Kidman is a great, fearless actress, she gives great performance after great performance, from To Die For to Moulin Rouge, from The Others to Rabbit Hole, from The Hours to The Paperboy, from Eyes Wide Shut to Birth, from Dogville to Margot at the Wedding. She’s an Academy Award winner, she’s very respected in the movie industry, she works with the greatest directors and actors. Is that the reason why some people here are so bitter? Because she’s beautiful, talented, glamorous, intelligent and respected?

  • Josh

@Not Even: I disagree with you. I think Kidman’s performances in To Die For, Birth, Dogville, The Others and Rabbit Hole are superior to anything those actresses you listed have ever done.

  • Josh

@Jen: What a ridiculous comment. By the way, there’s already great buzz about Stoker and Kidman’s performance in it.

  • Josh

@Not Even: Charlize Theron was great in Monster and good in Young Adult. And that’s it. She’s nothing special (except beautiful) in everything else I’ve seen her in.

  • Josh

@Lynn: “a B grade horror movie”? You don’t know much about movies, do you? FYI, the director of Stoker, Chan wook Park, is a genius.

  • Mara

Wentworth! Read the script for this years ago and have been keenly awaiting its arrival. Not too keen on the poster, however. The typography is weak and the border distracting. It also reminds me a touch of the poster for ‘The Hours’, also with Kidman.

  • serena

    To trolls/haters: suck on this!

Nicole just got 2 nominations from her peers, the Screen Actors Guild:
Best Supporting Actress – for her role in “Paperboy”
Best Actress in TV Movie or Miniseries – for her role in “Hemingway and Gellhorn”

She also got 2 Golden Globe nominations:
Best Supporting Actress – for her role in “Paperboy”
Best Actress in TV Movie or Miniseries – for her role in “Hemingway and Gellhorn”

  • oy

Another emotionally unstable character for Nicole. Aren’t there any other roles for women her age?

  • Little MY

    Oh dear,

Haters need to shove their heads up their @sses, Nicole’s already been getting praise for the film, the sundance write up has her stealing the show from Mia and Matthew.

  • To Josh

It’s one troll, one idiot with different names who apparentky watched Titanic recently.

  • TC

Nicole always campaigns ferociously to secure award nominations and there was always the cunningly timed DuJour magazine piece, where she gushed about her love for Cruise. The interview was shrewdly scheduled for release in December, garnering her maximum self-promotional publicity for the awards season.

  • Ann

@Jack Dawson: yeah, but Mia is gorgeous.

  • toria

Actually neither she nor the studios campaigned “ferociously” this time round. And really, the article in DuJour – a magazine I bet most people have never heard of outside its main circulation circle–really-it was responsible for the nominations??? ROFLMAO

  • Campaigning Ferociously?

-Whether SAG voters responded to the film as camp or took it at face value, they also were responding to a not-so-stealth campaign on Kidman’s behalf. Screeners for “The Paperboy” were sent out widely, with Kidman being the only talent named on the box, not Matthew McConaughey, Efron, Cusack or Daniels. She made a few Q&A appearances on behalf of the film in Los Angeles and made herself available for interviews from Europe, where she is filming “Grace of Monaco.”-

    - And so Kidman got on Skype, after a long shooting day playing Princess Grace in “Grace of Monaco” in Belgium, to talk about why she was willing to go almost all the way to play southern bombshell Charlotte Bless.-

-Nicole Kidman (The Paperboy) for best supporting actress, a performance in a divisive film that was on virtually nobody’s awards radar until Kidman scored a surprise SAG Award nomination Wednesday. Now, all of a sudden, with both a SAG and a Globe nom, she looks like a formidable contender.-

OK, if not “ferociously”…erm… how about “aggressively”? :-)

  • serena

    @TC: “campaigns ferociously”?
Have you seen how many magazine covers and how many talk shows Anne Hathway have been on? And just to make sure she grabbed all the headlines, Anne attended a red carpet event in a tight dress with a high slit and hooker boots and no underwear. She spread her legs wide when getting out of her car. Bingo! The photographers snapped her panty-less crotch area. That’s how you “campaign ferociously”!

  • LaCroix

Mia is killing it in her career young & working with the best people.. its refreshing to see a young lady be so together.. kudos to her!

  • beebop

Can’t wait to see this when it goes straight to redbox…LOL. That’s the way these things r going

  • Josh

@TC: Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams are campaigning far more “ferociously” than Nicole. They are everywhere, on every TV shows and Oscar rountables. Even Ann Dowd is campaigning more than Nicole. All Nicole did was three or four skype interviews with internet bloggers.
That article from Indiewire is pure bullsh*t from a supposed “Oscar pundit” who can’t accept that his SAG awards predictions were wrong and that his favourite actresses weren’t nominated (that’s how ridiculous those people are, they make award predictions without having seen the films they talk about).
Kidman has been busy filming “Grace of Monaco” in France and Belgium for the last two and three months and she has made only ONE Q&A appearance in LA to promote “The Paperboy” (not “a few”). If anything, the fact that she has to do so little to get awards nominations just shows that her performance in the film is really fantastic and how respected she is in the movie industry. But, of course, angry, bitter haters can’t accept that.

  • Josh

    @oy: You obviously haven’t seen The Paperboy…

  • Josh

@To Josh: Is that person a scientologist and/or an angry Tom Cruise fan? Because the way he/she constantly and obsessively attacks Kidman on JJ makes him/her sound like one…
