Here’s the film synopsis: India Stoker (Wasikowska) was not prepared to lose her father and best friend Richard (Dermot Mulroney) in a tragic auto accident. The solitude of her woodsy family estate, the peace of her tranquil town, and the unspoken somberness of her home life are suddenly upended by not only this mysterious accident, but by the sudden arrival of her Uncle Charlie (Goode), whom she never knew existed. When Charlie moves in with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evie (Kidman), India thinks the void left by her father’s death is finally being filled by his closet bloodline. Soon after his arrival, India comes to suspect that this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives. Yet instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless young woman becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Mark your calendars, Stoker is out in theaters on January 20, 2013!

    M Says:

So many dark secrets in Tommy Girl’s closet, is it a wonder he ordered people not to cooperate with Morton. But luckily there are always some who don’t give a rats about Cruise and Kidman and are willing to tell it like it is.

    :) Says:

It was reported Kidman was apparently upset on the set of ‘Grace Kelly’ and organised rugs, etc for freezing extras. Nice PR move Nickers, probably done to counter the negative fallout from the Stoker film set.

    Louise Says:

Everything I have read the last few years about Nicole is that she is very kind and generous to the people working on her films. Keith Urban is a very humble and wonderful man, perhaps his habits have wore off on her. Maybe life with Tom Cruise was a bit tense and unreal.

    Lynn Says:

I have no doubt Kidman will be more than convincing in this role. Her wooden acting and maniacal face are perfect for a B grade horror movie.

    Jen Says:

I have watched the Stoker trailer and here is the dilemma. Nicole’s mouth is now her ONLY facial feature that moves. Consequently, the viewer is required to listen very intently to the dialogue to try and understand the emotion behind the words. Visually, the only thing you end up concentrating on is her moving, slug like lips and the whole spectre then becomes quite disturbing and ridiculous.

    Josh Says:

Wow. So many trolls here. So many vicious, nasty comments. I mean, why talk about her “lip area”? WTH? And gossip from the National Enquirer? Seriously? Nicole Kidman is a great, fearless actress, she gives great performance after great performance, from To Die For to Moulin Rouge, from The Others to Rabbit Hole, from The Hours to The Paperboy, from Eyes Wide Shut to Birth, from Dogville to Margot at the Wedding. She’s an Academy Award winner, she’s very respected in the movie industry, she works with the greatest directors and actors. Is that the reason why some people here are so bitter? Because she’s beautiful, talented, glamorous, intelligent and respected?

  7. 32
    Josh Says:

@Not Even: I disagree with you. I think Kidman’s performances in To Die For, Birth, Dogville, The Others and Rabbit Hole are superior to anything those actresses you listed have ever done.

  8. 33
    Josh Says:

@Jen: What a ridiculous comment. By the way, there’s already great buzz about Stoker and Kidman’s performance in it.

  9. 34
    Josh Says:

@Not Even: Charlize Theron was great in Monster and good in Young Adult. And that’s it. She’s nothing special (except beautiful) in everything else I’ve seen her in.

  10. 35
    Josh Says:

@Lynn: “a B grade horror movie”? You don’t know much about movies, do you? FYI, the director of Stoker, Chan wook Park, is a genius.

    Mara Says:

Wentworth! Read the script for this years ago and have been keenly awaiting its arrival. Not too keen on the poster, however. The typography is weak and the border distracting. It also reminds me a touch of the poster for ‘The Hours’, also with Kidman.

    serena Says:

    To trolls/haters: suck on this!

Nicole just got 2 nominations from her peers, the Screen Actors Guild:
Best Supporting Actress – for her role in “Paperboy”
Best Actress in TV Movie or Miniseries – for her role in “Hemingway and Gellhorn”

She also got 2 Golden Globe nominations:
Best Supporting Actress – for her role in “Paperboy”
Best Actress in TV Movie or Miniseries – for her role in “Hemingway and Gellhorn”

  13. 38
    oy Says:

Another emotionally unstable character for Nicole. Aren’t there any other roles for women her age?

  14. 39
    Little MY Says:

    Oh dear,

Haters need to shove their heads up their @sses, Nicole’s already been getting praise for the film, the sundance write up has her stealing the show from Mia and Matthew.

  15. 40
    To Josh Says:

It’s one troll, one idiot with different names who apparentky watched Titanic recently.

  16. 41
    TC Says:

Nicole always campaigns ferociously to secure award nominations and there was always the cunningly timed DuJour magazine piece, where she gushed about her love for Cruise. The interview was shrewdly scheduled for release in December, garnering her maximum self-promotional publicity for the awards season.

  17. 42
    Ann Says:

@Jack Dawson: yeah, but Mia is gorgeous.

  18. 43
    toria Says:

Actually neither she nor the studios campaigned “ferociously” this time round. And really, the article in DuJour – a magazine I bet most people have never heard of outside its main circulation circle–really-it was responsible for the nominations??? ROFLMAO

  19. 44
    Campaigning Ferociously? Says:

-Whether SAG voters responded to the film as camp or took it at face value, they also were responding to a not-so-stealth campaign on Kidman’s behalf. Screeners for “The Paperboy” were sent out widely, with Kidman being the only talent named on the box, not Matthew McConaughey, Efron, Cusack or Daniels. She made a few Q&A appearances on behalf of the film in Los Angeles and made herself available for interviews from Europe, where she is filming “Grace of Monaco.”-

    - And so Kidman got on Skype, after a long shooting day playing Princess Grace in “Grace of Monaco” in Belgium, to talk about why she was willing to go almost all the way to play southern bombshell Charlotte Bless.-

-Nicole Kidman (The Paperboy) for best supporting actress, a performance in a divisive film that was on virtually nobody’s awards radar until Kidman scored a surprise SAG Award nomination Wednesday. Now, all of a sudden, with both a SAG and a Globe nom, she looks like a formidable contender.-

OK, if not “ferociously”…erm… how about “aggressively”? :-)

    serena Says:

    @TC: “campaigns ferociously”?
Have you seen how many magazine covers and how many talk shows Anne Hathway have been on? And just to make sure she grabbed all the headlines, Anne attended a red carpet event in a tight dress with a high slit and hooker boots and no underwear. She spread her legs wide when getting out of her car. Bingo! The photographers snapped her panty-less crotch area. That’s how you “campaign ferociously”!

  21. 46
    LaCroix Says:

Mia is killing it in her career young & working with the best people.. its refreshing to see a young lady be so together.. kudos to her!

  22. 47
    beebop Says:

Can’t wait to see this when it goes straight to redbox…LOL. That’s the way these things r going

  23. 48
    Josh Says:

@TC: Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams are campaigning far more “ferociously” than Nicole. They are everywhere, on every TV shows and Oscar rountables. Even Ann Dowd is campaigning more than Nicole. All Nicole did was three or four skype interviews with internet bloggers.
That article from Indiewire is pure bullsh*t from a supposed “Oscar pundit” who can’t accept that his SAG awards predictions were wrong and that his favourite actresses weren’t nominated (that’s how ridiculous those people are, they make award predictions without having seen the films they talk about).
Kidman has been busy filming “Grace of Monaco” in France and Belgium for the last two and three months and she has made only ONE Q&A appearance in LA to promote “The Paperboy” (not “a few”). If anything, the fact that she has to do so little to get awards nominations just shows that her performance in the film is really fantastic and how respected she is in the movie industry. But, of course, angry, bitter haters can’t accept that.

  24. 49
    Josh Says:

    @oy: You obviously haven’t seen The Paperboy…

  25. 50
    Josh Says:

@To Josh: Is that person a scientologist and/or an angry Tom Cruise fan? Because the way he/she constantly and obsessively attacks Kidman on JJ makes him/her sound like one…
