Ryan Lochte Gets Asked To Prom - For Charity!

Celebs get asked to proms and birthdays all the time, but it isn’t every day someone puts in this much effort!

Danielle Jennette, a high school senior from Suffolk, Virginia started the Twitter account @ryanlochteprom in hopes of getting swimming champ Ryan Lochte to go to prom with her. She even started fundraising for one of the charities he sponsors, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy!

Ryan just sent Danielle, who’s also a swimmer, a dozen roses over the weekend with the following note: “Hi Danielle: I’m sorry I can’t make it to your prom. Your support for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy means a lot to me, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. Good luck in your meets and maybe I’ll see you at the next Olympic Games! ;) –Ryan.” Aw, so sweet!

“I’m still fangirling over these roses from @ryanlochte! Lol” Danielle tweeted yesterday.

Meantime, Ryan has been training non-stop, even with the announcement of his new E! show, show announcement reaction below from Tuesday: “I am so excited about my new show and even more excited I can finally talk about it! Swimming is still my focus. Training for Rio is my priority— that won’t change. This is just another way for me to connect with my fans (who were the driving force behind the show), and follow me as I prep for the 2016 Games.”

Can’t wait!

    I am so over seeing these social media pleas to celebrities asking them to proms/balls/events. I don’t care if it is a wonderful person or a good cause. They are putting the notable person in a horrible position where they either have to go on a blind date with a stranger or send them a expensive gift (e.g. Scarlett Johannson). Otherwise, the media makes the celeb look cold and heartless.

    Remember when Mila Kunis told the soldier she couldn’t go because she has a life and a work schedule? She got ridiculed as being unsupportive of the military and she rearranged everything to go after all.

    @Jen:

    I agree completely. This young woman’s efforts could have been more appropriately and productively directed elsewhere. I appreciate that she raised a tiny bit of money for charity, but harassing a young public figure the way she did makes me uncomfortable.

    @Jen: blame sites like these who showcase these desperate people.
