Kate Winslet: 'Divergent' Role Confirmed?

Kate Winslet has reportedly been confirmed to join the highly-anticipated film Divergent!

“It’s official! Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has signed on for the highly anticipated film adaptation of #Divergent!,” the Summit Entertainment account tweeted, before quickly deleting it.

Divergent is based on a popular novel and is set in a futuristic dystopia. The story follows a teenager (Shailene Woodley) who seeks to break free from her homogeneous society that divides people based on human traits. She leaves her faction and joins a rival group, where she falls for a young man.

There is no word yet on what role Kate will play or who will join Shailene as the male lead.

ARE YOU EXCITED for Kate Winslet to possibly join Divergent?

I love her as an actress.

Yes! I’ve been waiting for her to do a bigger film. She can balance big budget with smaller fare so seamlessly. The movie is based on a best selling book with a built in fan base; it’ll be a hit at the box office, and it’ll give Kate a bigger fan base to support her career. :)

The graphic is so similar to Hunger Games…that’s actually what I thought she was joining before I read the article.

What? I can’t believe an actress who has once played some Jane Austen and Shakespeare would consider such crap……?!?!?!

i wish they didn’t turn this into another twilight/hunger games/hp wannabe. the most i love about the first twilight is that it was originally an indie film and it went big. i’m not a fan of big studio movies but i do love these books and Shailene is great so i’ll stand it

Even the poster looks hunger-games-ish. The story sounds lame…how was it a best seller?

    SaadGkhan Says:

@Black: You have to read it to believe it, its hardcore and violent… the characters are maybe teenagers but they have dept and are not stereotypical … it has Hunger Games effect on it, but its STRONG …

I think Kate Winslet will be playing the female villain in it who controls the all operation to kill and find Divergents.

i wonder if she will be playing Jenine? Only those who read the book will know what I’m talking about.

    Imane Says:

I think she’ll play either Jeanine or tris ‘mother Nathalie ( i can see a bit of ressemblance between her and shailene ) !! but I totally think she’ll kick ass as Jeanine !! that character is so deep and complex and Kate has the talent to pull it off :)
Now if they can just put me out of my misery and reveal who has been cast as Tobias !!

The poster …I thought it was another Hunger Games sequel…… I may have to take a look at this novel!

My immediate reaction was to roll my eyes. But then I thought, you know what… its better than a story that has already been told being remade. So whatever, we’ll see how this is. I do think this trend of dystopian novel adaptations a bit cumbersome.

We’ll see her in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, coming this year. That will be bigger, sure about it!

@panda: No love triangle? Are you sure you read the book?

    Sam Says:

Surprised at this, but I’m glad these projects are getting better actors. I think that the success of the Hunger Games probably helped.

@SaadGkhan: I also think she would be perfect as Tris’ mom.

OMG YES!!!! She would be incredible as Tris’ mom! Please let this happen!!!!

    della Says:

@sophia: there’s no love triangle in either of the two books. Veronica Roth even said there wasn’t going to be one, not even in the third book.
