  • Screen One Review

“Whether you are a fan of the book or not, the brilliance of this film is not the fact that Cruise is a mere 5”8 when the literary character is 6”5 (something he had to address quite extensively at the World Premiere) but that it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that it doesn’t patronize its audience. The humour in this film is well placed and provides the optimum reaction from the people watching, mixed in well with all the elements that make it a great action movie.”
“Tom Cruise makes an excellent Jack Reacher. His delivery of the lines are as dry as a desert and this creates maximum effect as the audience pinch themselves throughout asking “is this guy for real?” He fits the bill physically, his height really doesn’t seem an issue on screen and his broody loneliness and dis-engagement with the real world is apparent and clear. There is also the odd feeling of vulnerability for this vigilante which brings out a human side to the character making him far from indestructible, and in some instances, refreshingly out of his depth and control.”
“For all its ridiculousness, I found it hard to fault, it is what it is, nothing too serious and yet it has a stroke of brilliance about it, which makes all its absurdities forgivable. A very watchable movie, fans of the book wont be disappointed, action loving boys will love it and maybe girls will swoon at Tom Cruise in this new action role. I for one loved it.”

Brad Pitt fails to convince as an action movie star when it was clear that he has a stuntman to do all the actions for him in War of Z.
OK, that’s not too bad, what aggravated was that the stuntman happened to tweet non-stop from weather to work. That really robs away all Brad’s credibility for me.

  • TURMOIL FAILS TO PUT A DENT

“Yet just out with his latest action flick, “Jack Reacher,” Tom Cruise remains one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
He’s weathered ridicule, intense speculation about his family life, bumpy stretches at the box office brought on by audience disdain over his personal antics and some ill-considered movie projects.
And Cruise is right where he was when 1986’s “Top Gun” vaulted him to superstardom: On top. Maybe not the same level of on top as the 15-year stretch that began in the early 1990s, when practically every Cruise film was bound to be a $100 million hit.
But for a guy his age, with his baggage, in a business that deifies youth and excommunicates talent when it goes off the deep end, Cruise still prospers.”

  • TURMOIL FAILS TO PUT A DENT

“No matter what anyone thinks of his personal life, Cruise has a reputation as one of the hardest working men in show business, with an unparalleled work ethic.”

  • TURMOIL FAILS TO PUT A DENT

“Tom Cruise can viably continue to do these action films if only because he looks better than any 50 year old I’ve ever seen,” said Karger of Fandango.com. “The one thing you hear the most about Tom Cruise as an actor is that this is the guy who commits. From ‘Rock of Ages’ to ‘Tropic Thunder’ to an action-heavy movie like ‘Jack Reacher,’ this is the guy. It’s superhuman, the energy he puts into a performance. As long as that remains his work ethic, he can do things like this for a LONG time.”

  • 5 Reasons Why

Here are five reasons why Cruise is the right choice for Reacher.
    1. When you need someone to do FAST, fun dialogue, Tom Cruise is the first call you make. The trailers may show some awesome fights, but in between the movie relies heavily on great banter that few others beside writer/director Chris McQuarrie could pull off.
    2. From Pixar’s Rules for Storytelling – #16 “Stack the odds against [your main character.]” There’s one particularly great fist fight where we learn just how tough Jack Reacher is. When five guys jump a 6’5” brute, it’s easier to see how he might win. When they jump the short and slight Tom Cruise, the odds are stacked against him. It’s harder to believe he could win, and it would take a great filmmaker to pull it off convincingly. And they’ve done it.
    3. Jack Reacher’s theme delves too deeply into what American freedom really is for one of the many foreign actors to play. Reacher offers a unique perspective on what it means to be free in our country. Free from the shackles most of us never see around our wrists and ankles. In Reacher’s mind, he’s the only person truly exercising his freedom. Having Russell Crowe or some other famous Australian or British actor would be like having a man play Aileen Wuornos in Monster.
    4. High speed hyper-action. If you’ve seen even the lesser Mission Impossible movies, you know Tom Cruise has established himself as the white guy’s answer to Jackie Chan. He pulls off amazing stunts and unforgettable sequences in those movies. You’ll be telling all your friends about the bathtub fight in Jack Reacher. Other action stars could not have made this as much fun.
    5. Having fun in the face of moral ambiguity, you need to be able to act to get to a subtle place of pleasure in vendetta without being sadistic. That does mean you need a real actor. Say what you will about Tom Cruise’s personal life, his trademark high intensity is known the world over for a reason. He always brings it.
After you weigh all these factors, it’s easy to see how Jack Reacher might have remained a book if anyone besides Tom Cruise wanted to be in it.

  • Top Gear

-”If the camera wasn’t in danger, the shot wasn’t worth doing”, says director Christopher McQuarrie, in a sentiment we at Top Gear hold very dear to our hearts. The footage you see below – exclusive to TopGear.com – shows Tom powersliding and handbrake-turning the big American brute himself.

Listen Xenu Cult minion–do you think you are fooling us? Cruise may be a good actor, but he is a rotten father to Suri. He has put his career above his daughter-a six year old. Especially after bragging how his kids come first. Such a man to admire.
