Alicia Keys: Super Bowl 2013 National Anthem - Watch Now!

Alicia Keys performs a stripped down version of the Star Spangled Banner during the 2013 Super Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday (February 3) in New Orleans, La.

The 32-year-old singer is hot off her performance at the Inaugural Ball, where she changed the lyrics to her song “Girl on Fire” to “Obama’s On Fire”!

“Almost ready to sing at the @Superbowl! Is this football appropriate? Heels are my version of cleets! ;-)#SB47,” Alicia tweeted. “Getting ready to sing my heart out for America! The city is electric!! ;-) !!! #SB47″

FYI: Alicia is wearing an Alia dress and a Marina B necklace.

I liked it. She took her time, did her best and she played her own instrument on her own as well. She added her own style to it. She looked stunning too! Well done!

I liked it – but my question is are Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce the only 3 singers in America right now? I want to see a new face at these big events.

This was absolutely horrid. She sang flat in places. It was unbearably slow – I swear she paused for 5 seconds between phrases — good gawd. She sucked in the Sandy relief concert – sucked with her Obama’s on Fire song and why does she always wear outfits that emphasize her humoungous A$$?

YOU BETTER SANG ALICIA !!! I love, love, loved it she sang it beautifully. To all those that said she wouldn’t sang it right or she was going to be boring !! One word POW. TUH !! And she looked good while doing it to.

to Lady B – you are right on – I was thinking the same thing – why are we seeing the same few singers over and over – it’s ridiculous and nauseating – oh, we forgot Rihanna – she’s everywhere too

He, he, he, don’t be mad because she sang so perfectly. She IS the one and only Alicia Keys. If she wanted to hold for five or ten seconds that would be fine because it was her rendition and it was beautiful just the way she performed it. I was personally feeling everything she sang. Alicia never fails to move me with her songs. As for her dress. Well it was flattering to all parts.

The worst half time show. I thought she was going to sing not be a back up singer to a tape. What a disappointment.

Why couldn’t the power outage happen then? Yep, she sure did a number all right. Any singer can tell it was over-rehearsed coming across very mechanical. She was more worried about maintain her vibrato and hitting her tremolo than tonal quality. Her embellishments were tacit at best. As with other sentiments, these personal embellishments are unwarranted as the National Anthem is supposed to be what inspires the soul, not the artist themselves. Her jazz stylings left me wanting of mid-summer Baseball game just to hear the Star Spangled Banner done proper. I enjoy a little R&B from time to time, just not in my Patriotic Music.

Roseanne Barr came close to being dethroned as one of the worst public renditions by a celebrity ever. Whenever a celebrity sings the National Anthem, it shall be called the Star “Mangled It” Banner. Those that that thoroughly enjoyed the performance are either star struck or so dumbfounded that their girl Alicia blew it.

BTW… Why doesn’t the NFL run a make singer through every now and then? Keith Urban or Harry Connick Jr. would draw in female viewers who might just ignore the Super Bowl all together.

I don’t know. I like Alicia Keys. I don’t have anything against her, but to be honest that was kind of pathetic. She doesn’t have the voice to sing the national anthem.

    Fierce Red Says:

Without any doubt, it was an absolutely brilliant performance, outta body experience.!

    John Anderson Says:

Without any doubt, she stands alone at the top with that performance, it was heavenly stunning!

    karen Says:

No one complained about Billy Joels sitting and playing at the piano when he sang the anthem. Just something else to hate about for no good reason. Besides, it would be kind of hard for her to stand and play the piano anyway. How about a little appreciation for her playing her own music while singing? Sure someone else could have played, had they practiced with her but why? She did a very good job all by herself. People need to stop the nitpicking about nothing. Alicia respectfully played the National Anthem with all her heart and she did an excellent job. I can’t even imagine the pressure an artist must feel to do something like that. Much resspect and gratitude for that wonderful performance.
