Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz: 'Betrayal' Broadway Stars?

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz are reportedly set to work together for the first time as a married couple in the Broadway revival of the play Betrayal.

The 44-year-old actor would play “publisher Robert, whose wife Emma (Weisz) is having an affair with his friend, Jerry, a literary agent,” according to the Daily Mail.

Daniel previously starred on Broadway in the play A Steady Rain opposite Hugh Jackman back in 2009. This play would mark Rachel‘s Broadway debut, though she has done theatre on the West End.

    @Nina:
    So do I. I felt it was extreme depression characterized by tearful sadness and fears.

    Mike Nichols may direct? Wow!

  • Nina

    @Amy:
    Yes, I thought it was as irrational and surreal as a dream, so I was overly emotional in an unreasoning visceral manner. I found it was more absurdly sad he lost everything..

    Daniel showed outstanding talent in A STEADY RAIN on Broadway. If all goes well, I will see them too!

    Completely disappearing inside his character, Craig is superb. While Denny puffs himself up, Joey keeps his strength coiled; his body language is all guarded defensiveness. And while Denny is all talk and reckless action, Joey is reflective, wary and plagued by an all-seeing conscience. When the character articulates feelings he has kept hidden his entire adult life, Craig conveys both sorrow and release in a way that’s extremely moving.

    I can only wish I lived in the US. I’d love to see Daniel live on stage. He’s such a great actor, he’s nailed each role he’s played so far. Not to mention his macsulinity, of course. I know I’d have to pick my tongue up off the floor. ( I’m not sure if this expression is correct in this context, sorry if it isnt’, hope you know what I mean. ).

    @Chanel:
    Why does it bother You at all? Why do you tell people how they should act? Why do you tell people how they should spend ttheir spare time? Maybe I want to act like a groupie, none of your business. Being judgemantal about those who post here is a bit strange…. If you don’t like it why are you here in the first place?

    Spotted: Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz at Prima!

  • Monica

    @Chanel: Why are you in such a bad mood? Daniel and Rachel are talented actor, so it’s a normal/natural many people are so excited to see them performing Betrayal together.
    @Just wanna: You have a lack of knowledge of a stage for a play. Performing a play on a stage is never a step down. Many great actors love performing a play on Broadway — Philip Seymour Hoffman, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Chastain, Al Pacino, etc…. Daniel started his career as a stage actor, is hailed as one of the finest actors of his generation on stage. Maybe he wants to go back to the starting point and absorb new things if necessary.

  • Helena

    Broadway revival of the play Betrayal?
    BORING. simply boring. rachel weisz and daniel craig are behaving like 60 old years seniors and killing time with the play but not producing a baby ?? kinda weird marriage.

  • Skyfall Wins At BAFTAs

    BAFTAs 2013: ‘Skyfall’ Bags First James Bond BAFTA In 50 Years
    007 movie triumphs over ‘Les Miserables’
    ‘Skyfall’ may not have been up for the biggest award of the night – the Best Film gong, but Daniel Craig’s latest outing as 007 did win Bond’s first major BAFTA in 50 years as it bagged the Best British film award.

    The movie, directed by Sam Mendes, beat off competition from bookies favourite ‘Les Miserables’, retiree comedy ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’, Joe Wright’s ‘Anna Karenina’ and black comedy ‘Seven Psychopaths’.

    It’s the first award for the suave secret agent for 50 years, since Ted Hughes’ Sean Connery fronted Bond flick ‘From Russia With Love’ took a gong for Cinematography.

    Thomas Newman also gained recognition for his work on the movie by winning a BAFTA for Best Original Score, including the iconic title song on which he worked with Adele.
    There was disappointment however for Dame Judi Dench, who achieved her first nomination in 17 years for her role as M, but lost out to Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress. She could barely contain her excitement though when ‘Skyfall’s’ win was announced. Javier Bardem also missed out to ‘Django Unchained’ star Christoph Waltz in the equivalent male category.

    ‘Skyfall’ has become the biggest grossing film in Britain ever, garnering eight BAFTA nominations, but has failed to break Bond’s hoodoo of being overlooked when the biggest prizes are given out, despite the sentimental BAFTA win.

    Before the ceremony, BBC critic Mark Kermode told EntertainmentWise: “I do think it’s the best Bond film so far. I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond. What Sam Mendes managed to do, and it’s really hard, is he’s blended the elements of the traditions of Bond, with what was there from the back catalogue that he wanted to take, but he treated it like all his movies like a character drama. It was basically a story that was led by its characters.”

    At the end of the month the Academy will honour Bond at the Oscars ceremony, putting on a special tribute set to include a performance of the ‘Skyfall’ theme by Adele to celebrate 50 years of 007.

  • Mendes Salutes Daniel

    Skyfall wins Outstanding British Film award at Baftas 2013
    Director Sam Mendes said hints he would be interested in helming a second Bond film, saying “we would want to make a better movie”
    Daniel Craig’s latest James Bond outing Skyfall has been named Outstanding British Film at the 2013 movie Baftas, beating Anna Karenina, The Best Exotical Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables and Seven Psychopaths to the award.

    Director Sam Mendes accepted the honour, saying “1,292 people worked on Skyfall and I stand here on behalf of all of them. We all had high expectations for this film and this is really the icing on the cake.”

    Mendes said the film had been “built around” Daniel Craig, praising the star for “his bravery, his friendship and his sheer bloody-mindedness”, saying it was “the curse of Bond” that he had not received a nomination himself.

    “It was an incredible performance but because Bond is the spine of the movie… You take it for granted,” said Mendes.

    Speaking to reporters earlier in the evening, Mendes suggested he would be up for directing a second 007 film: “I’ve had a great time, it’s been a huge learning curve and we would want to make a better movie next time around, and if we thought we could do that they might let me have another go again.”

    The 23rd Bond adventure – the highest grossing movie ever at the UK box office – co-stars Javier Bardem as villain Raoul Silva, Judi Dench as M, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Berenice Marlohe as Severine.

    Skyfall also picked up the Bafta for best original music at the ceremony, which was held at the Royal Opera House in London and hosted by Stephen Fry.

    @FAN: Same here!! My old pal saw ASR 4 times with NY tour, and met him. He bought me the playbill and ASR’s key holder. Betrayal’ll be sold out soon. Wonder if they will sell the DVD recording the play..

  • Rie

    @Mendes Salutes Daniel: I think Mendes acted as spokesman for us, as if it had represented us (our true feelings).

  • Fan

    I doubt there will be a DVD release.
    They didn’t do it with ASR and this was the hell of a profitable play. I’m pretty sure it would have sold very very well, it had freaking Wolverine and sexy Bond LOL

  • Magda

    @Guinness:

    50 shades of Grey? Would you really want to see Daniel in such poor, crappy, amateurish fiction? He’s too good for such graphomaniac nonsense for immature and “not-so- well-read” teenagers.

  • Mendel

    Hi Guinness

    had a bit of mad week – all work and no play – but now can relax…
    I seemed to have missed an awful lot on here!

    “I will go if Dan gets nekked”

    Can he get nekkid in the West End instead please ;) Broadway is so far away!

    “50 Shades of Grey. it should be on Broadway, si??????????? with Dan as the lead?? and—— just Dan. And me, Guinness…and wait
    I guess it would be time to wake up and go to work then… ”

    Dan in his birthday suit with leathers and whips…what a nice thought *grin*

    “everywhere around us got over 10 inches. stinks. i like it. ho hum.”

    Guess what we have here…rain, rain, rain, rain, rain…

    I was watching the BAFTAs on TV and kept looking out for Dan – but he mustn’t have come. However, it wasn’t mentioned that he was there or not there, yes, Mendes mentioned him in his acceptance speech, but otherwise it was as if he didn’t exist. Odd…
    Judy got huge applause from the audience when they showed her in Skyfall as part of her nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was definitely the audience’s choice!

  • Amy

    @Helena:
    @FAN:
    I’m positive Daniel and Rachel will be still the hottest couple in their 60s! :)

  • Fan

    @Amy: I still would like to see them on stage NOW. Not that I doubt they will be freaking hot in their 60s. It’s just that I fear I will be too old to fly over to see them on stage in 20 years from now. But maybe they’ll come back to good old England when the kid is old enough and set the stage on fire in London! LOL

  • Fio

    Aww Judi’s reaction was kinda cute! And… Well said, Mendes! Bravo!!

  • Guinness

    woah, woah! It comes out the 18th…right Fio? No, I dont have blu-ray. Not sure why yet. There is a slight different “movie experience”, but hell, I watch for the intellectual stimulation, not the action and loud sequences!! *uh, huh* I am getting it–regular style. wow. that is provocative… leading into my next point to Mendel… !!!!!!
    It is odd about what you said “odd” about. He must be somewhere warm with wife. Oh!! are you gonna watch her Oz performance? My girls want to go see it…we probly will.
    And sorry about the rain–we are now getting rain. but that mixes withthe snow, and it is cold on the ground–so it makes for black ice which makes it fun driving to work every day. so, rain or snow–I would love to be over there regardless of the weather…so consider yourself coveted!!!
    A bottle of red made me sleepy— happy v-day if Dan forgets you Mendel… so you can tell him Guinness said it first!! cheers!
    oh!
    I liked what Mendes said about Dan… the role of Bond is always taken for granted… tru dat. It made me think: do actors win because of the terrific jump they made artistically as an individual OR because the role was a terrific jump from reality as the viewers thought it could be. ie. is the role or the actor the winner?
    If it is how far the actor went for a particular role, i would say Dan should win awards, hands down. (or hands on…).
    The role of Bond should not win, because the character personality is not well liked–just dreamed about.
    oh forget it. I thought I had it… too cerebral for the night dreams of Dan,.. ciao!
