Shia LaBeouf Exits 'Orphans' on Broadway

Shia LaBeouf has exited the upcoming Broadway production of Lyle Kessler‘s Orphans, Playbill reports.

The 26-year-old actor, who was set to make his Broadway debut in the production, left “due to creative differences.” No other statement was given.

Earlier in the week, Shia tweeted: “put my hand thru the door at rehearsals. then apologized to our playwright- this was his response. lesson? PACE,” along with a pic of some emails between him and Lyle.

Orphans, which is a three character piece, stars Alec Baldwin and Tom Sturridge in the other two roles. An announcement on replacement casting is expected soon.

The play will begin previews on March 19 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in the Big Apple. The official opening is slated for April 7.

    Shia LaBeouf is someone I assume has had “creative differences” with everyone he has worked with. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Spielberg chewed his ass out!

    HE TOTALLY MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. THIS PLAY IS A DISASTER.
    I SAW A PREVIEW OF IT. JUST TERRIBLE.
    ALEC BALDWIN IS A TV ACTOR AND HIS ACTING JUST DOESN’T TRANSFER ON STAGE.
    GOOD CHOICE ON SHIA’S PART TO LEAVE THE PRODUCTION.

    Let me guess – he thought he knows better than the director and was trying to push through his ideas, and when he heard “no” he had a tantrum and left, because he’s a “real artist”. Like when Mia Wasikowska was scared of him, because when he was playing a drunk, he was drinking every day. Silly me, I thought that acting is about acting like someone, not being them. He’s trying so hard to show everybody that he’s a method actor, when actually he’s a lost guy who cannot separate his job from real life.

    I don’t blame him. His creative DIFFERENCE is his co-star Alec Baldwin is a racist. Would you star in a play which will be boycotted no doubt because your co-star was caught yelling out racist slurs. Good for him.

    @DRAMA GIRL:

    Seriously? I’m assuming by your nom de plume that you know about theatre. Then you know, previews are about tweaking. Alec B. actually has some impressive theatre credentials. He is not just a “tv actor” -do your research. I am not an Alec B. apologist — but I recognize that he is a good actor.

    Also, I would imagine that Shia was challenged by what doing a stage play demands — rehearsals, tweaking, more rehearsals, dress rehearsals. It demands a lot more self control, commitment and passion then scripted tv or movies.

    I don’t know if Orphans is any good but I would imagine Shia had issues with the commitment it would take, not the material. Good god, he did 3 transformers movies.

    @DRAMA GIRL: The show hasn’t even started previews so you did not see it. Maligning a production with no basis is wrong.

    BobNYC Says:

    @ok: The report of Alec saying a racist word has been proven false by the NYPD who has the original audio tape. He never said any such thing. Not even close. And he didn’t threaten anyone either. That aside – if he were a racist, how would that apply to Shia? Is Shia black? You post is ignorant of fact and incredibly stupid.

    @BobNYC:

    because who wants to be associated with a racist on Broadway? Oh yeah box office tixs are really going to sell like hotcakes.
    BTW..there’s no proof that he didn’t use the slur. He denies it. That’s not proof.

    So I go to a gym here in NYC that loads of Broadway stars go to. About three weeks ago, the guy next to me in the locker room looked familiar but I couldn’t quite place him. He had interesting tattoos on his torso, and looked enough like Shia that I google imaged “Shia LeBeouf tattoos” and realized that it was definitely him.

    Saw him the next four days in a row. Oddly, the last day I saw him there, he was walking around the locker room BUCK NEKKID for like 15 solid minutes. Like, it was uncomfortable after a while. Great body, totally *regular* peen. but just odd that he didn’t grab one of the 10,000 free towels that abound in the locker room to at least partially cover up. In 4 yrs of going there, he was by far the most naked guy I’ve seen there.
