Seth MacFarlane: Oscars 2013 Opening Monologue (Full Video)

Seth MacFarlane hits the stage for his opening monologue at the 2013 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (February 24) in Hollywood.

The 39-year-old Family Guy creator started off his monologue cracking some jokes before William Shatner showed up on a screen as Star Trek‘s James T. Kirk and showed him some clips from the future to advise him to change up his performance.

Seth ended up bringing out Channing Tatum and Charlize Theron to perform a dance number and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe to sing a song together.

Sally Field also made an appearance while Seth played her classic character, The Flying Nun! Watch it all go down in the video below.

Does anyone know what Seth compares Quvenzhane’s name to in the song?

So far this has been meh. I should’ve expected more but then again, I’m not surprised. Maybe they should’ve gotten better writers and a better host.

I don’t care what anyone else said, MacFarlene was hilarious. Loved Ted too.

That’s what you get when a GENIUS hosts a show… A bunch of dummies wondering what to think, and then decide to go with the majority in saying they didn’t like, CAUSE THEY”RE TOO DUMB TO GET THE BRILLIANCE. Continue to soar like an EAGLE Seth, don’t stop because your are surrounded by TURKEYS.

@knuman:
“a vision test”

makes perfect sense if you have had to take a few of those in your lifetime, but not the best joke.

Some people will always take a defiant stand against things like this as a matter of course. It’s to be expected. I however, thought it was well done!

Seth did an amazing job! He is a born enterainer! He is an artist in the truest sense of the word. Not only is humor a step-above, but his singing blows me away! I love that doesn’t back down from controversy and goes ahead and offends everyone! I also LOVE his self effacing humor! He is a genius. If you don’t “get” him, maybe you should stick to lame “Jag” reruns! Way to go, Mr. McFarlane! Job well done!

Ok, I actualy liked this a lot. There is not a lot of people that try to add the tasteless to song and dance. I liked the fact that he is thowing himself at the audiance and insults his own jokes as part of a way to increase the likeness of his actual performances.

The best host ever!

Seth was amazing. So funny and talented.
