Ethan Hawke Covers 'Gotham' Spring Fashion Issue

Ethan Hawke suits up on the cover of Gotham magazine‘s Spring 2013 Fashion Issue, on newsstands now.

The 42-year-old actor, who is starring in the Off-Broadway play Clive through this weekend, chatted with the mag about his opinion on Oscar winners.

“People want to turn everything in this country into a competition…it’s clear who the winner is and who the loser is,” Ethan said. “It’s why they like to announce the grosses of movies because it’s a way of saying this one is number one. It’s so asinine even if you look at how many forgettable, stupid, movies have won Oscars and how many mediocre performers have Oscars above their fireplace. Making a priority of chasing these fake carrots and money and dubious accolades, I think it’s really destructive.”

He looks like Brolin in the airbrushed pics. Unfortunately I’m talking about James, not Josh.

“It’s so asinine even if you look at how many forgettable, stupid, movies have won Oscars and how many mediocre performers have Oscars above their fireplace.”

Kudos for an actor to saying it out loud.

    Awww I love Guy Fieri

  • Babi

    Beautiful and amazing actor!

  • Kiddie

He’s a good actor. Seems a little anal and needs loosening up, but very solid actor and spot on about bad movies. This ashen look is a bit odd…but love Training Day, Gattaca, and of course, Dead Poets (minus Robin Williams).

    I’m still love him,

    Well said, Ethan!

    EXACTLY ETHAN!

finally someone said it!Ethan Hawk is brilliant, even with this look!

  • rose

    Well said Mr Hawke,

  • Mkiujingu

@sky: and that’s the type of comment people who are fooled by hollywood and the academy would say. Nobody but him or his wife (or the nanny) could say whatever reason he did that. But perhaps he did it, cause I don’t know, maybe he found the nanny more attractive? Duh.

He is the best actor from his generation!!!

  • lina

so right! love Ethan.. here is an actor with actually balls to say it.. hate all those butt kissers in Hollywood.

  • Me

I agree with him. It’s just a competition, it’s easy to win it if you play the game but does it really matter? A lot of people stop being good once they “win” an Oscar it’s like they give up

  • Lima

He is so right, well spoken. It’s a popularity contest, that’s all. As Edward Norton once put it: it’s tiring to see the same group of people congratulating themselves over and over again

  • Louanne

He is so right! We’ve known this for years but only now some actors are speaking out their minds. Ethan did it in an articulated and smart way. Love him since Dead Poets Society and will always love him.

  • Kiddie

Apparently he edidn’t cheat until they had pretty much finsihed up. Read Uma Thurman’s interviews; she says that herself. his cheating wasn’t the issue; it was the fact that she was more succesful than he was.

  • Shevine is real

You are so right!!! Ethan Hawk is Dope! Someone really not deserve the Oscar because of that stupid infamous Character from those “kid” Book. Overrated one won the Oscar so easy!

  • lauryn

don’t get me wrong i really like this guy, especially with my sentiment for the 90ies. back then he was such a beautiful, sexy catch, i was totally in love with him! what happened?! was it the split with uma?
he’s one of the very few men who aged terribly. he’s not even in his 50ies and has the face of an old man, which in that case doesn’t look good or interesting. so sad to watch..
