Lauren Conrad Covers 'Redbook' April 2013

Lauren Conrad is bright in blue on the cover of Redbook magazine’s April 2013 issue, on newsstands March 12.

Here’s what the 27-year-old fashion designer had to share with the mag:

On building a wardrobe: “Whenever someone comes up to me and says, ‘I’m having trouble shopping.’ I tell them to pull out their 10 favorite, most-worn pieces, then build a wardrobe around them. You need to figure out what you gravitate toward, what makes you feel good—and those staples are going to be different for everybody.”

On the inspiration behind her fashion line: “At first, I was just designing for myself. Then I started getting comments from women who didn’t have my body type, saying things like, ‘I have a larger chest and can’t wear this tent-shaped dress.’ So I’ve learned to make pieces that don’t necessarily flatter me but look great on someone else.”

On what sets her apart from other celebrity designers: “I spent years in school for this. It wasn’t just, ‘I like clothes! I’m going to make some!’”

Is she wearing those clothes she DESIGNS for Kohls?? I’ve NEVER seen her wear them. Like J-Lo she wants people to by HER rags so she can use their money for REAL designer clothes!

@lexy hates bilson: she was selling her clothes here (in australia) and they weren’t bad actually, but just too expensive

  • Journalistic

She went to school for years? From what I understand she went for two years *eye-roll* and it wasn’t a design program.

To the first commenter, I just wanted to point out that she actually wears her line pretty regularly. There are several paparazzi photos on this site, in fact, where she is wearing tops/bottoms/shoes from her Kohls line.

I happen to really enjoy her line…I think it looks great, is flattering at any size (I’ve lost a lot of weight recently and her larger sizes fit just as well as her smaller ones), and is very price friendly. I’m not trying to sell her line to anyone but I really do think she has done a great job releasing a quality product to the public, despite her ridiculous beginnings as some MTV reality star.

She designs cute stuff. But yes, I have to agree, it’s a bit overpriced for what it really is.

@lexy hates bilson: she has quite a few pictures wearing her line from kohl’s (especially the shoes) like here
