Emma Watson Slams 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Casting Rumors

Emma Watson has shot down rumors that she will be starring in the upcoming film Fifty Shades of Grey.

“Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life,” the 22-year-old actress tweeted. She later sent out a tweet featuring just a question mark.

Rumors resurfaced that Emma would be playing Anastasia Steele after a hacker group posted documents suggesting she was attached to the project, according to Entertainment Weekly.

No one would take her serouisly in the role. The Harry potter series tainted her for such roles. Even Anne Hathaway had to wait several years before the princess stereotype roles ended for her.

  • lethaltouch

You should totally do it, Jare! You were amazing as the “Red Queen” this past Halloween, so I’m sure you’d totally nail this “Anastasia” role! :)

i just really hope they dont do some tacky porn movie, please dont

  • 55vineyard

Sorry but I thought this was the most boring book ever and I sure would not waste my money to see the movie. All the best to you fans.

  • anonymous

I don’t know why everyone keeps saying to the actors in Harry Potter that doing those films have tainted them for future projects…? I mean, it might be difficult for people to think of them as anything else but their HP roles for a few years, but those movies were a success and everyone loved it. Not to mention, everyone involved in the movies (mainly the most notable cast members) are set for life with the amount of money they have made during that decade. If I were a part of the HP crew then I’d be very content not only that I’d never have to worry about money (at such a young age also), but because I was a part of such an incredible experience making eight fantastic films!

  • Whatevs

Nobody wants to do that movie because the book is stupid, and Emma is a smart girl.

  • sam

LOL!!! EMMA’S THE BEST!!! Seriously though!! That movie will end any decent persons career!! Its tacky and the characters are extremely shallow.

  • Blair

@Josie: Um… she would NEVER even CONSIDER such a role!! Did you not read her tweet?

  • Sam

@Josie: Any actress who takes on the role of the pathetic “Anastasia” will never ever be taken seriously again as an actress!!

  • Smurf

I actually see Nina D. And Ian S. in that movie.
    Emma not so much.
    Books are truly awful though.

  • Yep

    She deleted the tweet

  • LOL

I swear Emma is like the coolest person out there. Only a D-lister (or someone who wants to downgrade to D- would consider doing such a role!

  • sam

    @Yep: No she didn’t…

  • Denza

Smart move Emma! It might take a while to get past the HP association but she’s moving in the right direction with Perks, The Bling Ring and Noah. She’s definitely too good for this rubbish!

  • KissThis

I don’t think anyone should play anastasia or christian. These books shouldn’t be made into movies – They’re too ridiculous and nasty. Anyone who loves these books or is dying to see them made into a movie needs to get a life!

  • Rupert Sanders

i prefer Justin Bieber for the role

  • Sid

Emma is a smart girl. I hope that she will be sensible enough and reject the offer of this horrible film. The book is a disgrace to all women and men

  • an

stop with ” emma is a smart girl shxt ” ok she won’t even consider taking the part . I loved the book so much , but do I think they should turn it into a movie , not really … It can be really good if they don’t pick stupid hollywood actresses to play the part !
she is smart ? that’s childish to say these things especially on twitter , that’s not professional , ok she hates the books . good . but picking a movie about the robbery of stars could not be considered as a smart move / or witches for that matter ! When she’ll get the carreer of anne hathaway or meryl streep //

  • Toni

I dont think Emma has been typecast at all, she keeps doing different things.

That said, I’m glad she’s not in the movie, she should be in good stuff.

  • an

@KissThis: oh so a book about vampires and witches is sooooo much better ;o

  • trendeh

that’s the reason I respect and look up Emma W.

  • Yeah

She’s smart enough to not act in this shit! This role is for a little-known actress who doesn’t dream about a serious career or a porn actress but not for the normal serious actresses.

  • Cate

Not surprised. No actress with any kind of career would go anywhere near this crap.

  • Carrie

Willa Holland is the perfect Anastasia Steele. And Henry Cavill is the perfect Christian Grey. No one else come close.

  • Steve

@Denza: You are so gay to think that playing in The Perks is a step in the right direction.

  • Alaia

@Josie: More like nobody would take her seriously AFTER being in this trashy movie. Just like Kristen Stewart after Twilight, she would have no credibility.

  • lol

Man these idiots here thinking Fifty Shades is a good book and Emma is not good enough for it, Get real that book is a bad attempt at a twilight fanfiction lol, no actress in their right mind will star on that nonsense. I really hope it doesnt become a movie and if it does they use some D grade actors. And if you watched perks you would see emma was amazing on it, but hey you think 50 shades is amazing that show you cant distinguish between low quality books and great books with a message.
Anastasia Steele is a bad example to all us women out there, she shows that it is ok to be abused by a male with no lack of self respect, great message right?

  • Franklin O. Harris

just as Shannon implied I’m shocked that a mother can earn $4080 in four weeks on the computer. have you seen this webpage… http://www.miniurl.com/sa/jhdfodgd

  • ian

I would love to see her as Anasatacia.

  • an opinion

I think the people handling the book keep putting out these rumors of major stars interested in this movie.Just to keep interest in the book. In the end it will be some B list actor and actress.

  • Julia

no, no, no, the most vulgar and mediocre book!!! written by a fifteen-year-old girl

  • pricely

Emma would’ve been good. She needs to be thought of as innocent for the audience to believe it. Does everyone expect to visually see these scenes? I don’t think thats going to happen. I think it’ll be shot like 9 1/2 weeks. There’s no other way to keep it classy.

  • cmac

It would be the equivalent of Elizabeth Berkley doing Showgirls. It ruined her career and made her a laughing stock. Emma is much more talented than she.

  • ann

Good. That book is the worst. Emma’s too talented and is perceived to have too much class to be associated with that mom-porn.

  • Alejandra

She doesn’t look like Anastasia anyway, so … whatever!

  • LiiL

Seriously? No! I think Alexis Bledel would be a better choice.

  • http://ewe Paulie

@Alejandra: how did u know the look of Anastasia? the book is poorly written, i think she did a good decision.

  • Dave TheDick

Emma should do this. She a conceded little Brit trap anyway.
Always acting and trying to be the ‘Little Princess” who’s so polly perfect and Mary Poppins clean and squeaky! Yeah right. You should pick someone a little more Mature anyway. Hey, I hear Kim K was up for the role before she got pregnant. Maybe use Pamela Anderson! She most likely was a consultant on the book anyway….lol

  • Isabela

    @Steve:

Shut up.That is just disrespectful and offensive.State your opinion in a smart way.

  • liz

she’s so arrogant. it’s okay if you think the movie is crap, many of us do… but have some respect. by the way, she’s living proof that red lipstick doesn’t suit every woman.

  • junior45

If anyone is worried about Emma Watson being type cast because of the HP movies, who was more type cast than Natalie Portman as Amidala in the Star Wars movies? Ms. Portman seems to be doing just fine.

  • Bee

    @Sid:

    Did you read it?

  • oy

Glad she’s smart enough to stay away from a crap novel being turned into an even crappier film.

  • fauntleroy

@Dave TheDick: Yes! she needs to be on mature roles but not that rubbish book. You obviously don’t read it isn’t it?. its just she is not like other celebs who accept that role because the book is famous, she’s actually NOT the ONLY celebrity who refused to the role or denied the role and this shows that the book is crap!

  • georgina

@liz: ok, she’s arrogant but quite smart arrogant!

  • @Julia

15 year old? That woman is in her 40 and smiling all the way to the bank and looking at the numbers on her account. Like it or not, this book made milliions so my guess is it just hit a nerv.
This kind of book coming from the US was the biggest surprise for me LOL so the impression of the prude US citizens is not that close to the truth like I thought. At least they are reading this poorly written sex story unter the blanket when they think nobody will notice.

  • http://ewe Andrea

and so I Respect her, she is not like other celebrities who do starker for money and fame!

  • polkymumble

How stupid to talk about “Fifty Shades of Grey” in the land of no infant cruelty laws? Say NO to Legalizing Girl/Boy Circumcision. Say NO to 17 Year-Old Vagina/Penis Carrying 70 Year-Old Clitoris/Glans.

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

Silly books, a movie version? Ugh.. She wouldn’t be right for it anyway, like seriously, who would want to see little Hermione Granger?

  • Nina

@Cate: If this is what you call crap, I’d hate to see you call good. You obviously have crappy taste.
