Angelina Jolie Opens All-Girls School in Afghanistan, Designs Jewelry to Fund Other Schools

Angelina Jolie has opened an all-girls in the Kabul section of Afghanistan, E! News has confirmed.

The 37-year-old UNHCR Goodwill ambassador picked the area due to its high refugee population, and because it is a region that normally favors male education over female education. The school is already educating between 200 and 300 females and has had a major positive impact on the area.

Angelina has also released a statement that she plans to open more schools using funds from her very own jewelry line, which will soon be released in stores.

“Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” Angelina said.

The jewels will go on sale this week, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to her new initiative, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

Angelina Jolie Announces Commitments to Educate One Million Children Affected by Conflict
    September 26, 2007

Actress Angelina Jolie, the other half of the unfairly good-looking Jolie-Pitt juggernaut, announced at today’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) that members of the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which Jolie co-founded as part of a 2006 CGI commitment, has pledged to educate more than one million children whose lives have been irrevocably shaken by conflict around the world—including young people affected by Darfur genocide, girls and youth in rural Afghanistan, and other groups across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
“Education can transform the lives of children in conflict, giving them the tools to create a better future for their families and their nations,” explained Jolie, who co-chairs the Education Partnership with Gene Sperling, Director of the Center for Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations. “This Partnership is putting words into action,” Jolie explained, “and demonstrating that even in the most difficult circumstances, every child can and should have a chance to learn.”In total, the Partnership’s commitments represent $148 million for the field of conflict education. They include:
18 commitments from 19 organizations and individuals in 15 countries

Commitments to improve educational opportunities for over one million conflict-affected children:
Partnership commitments will provide 350,000 out-of-school children in conflict-affected regions an opportunity to attend school.

Improve the learning environment, safety, materials and teacher quality of another 690,0000 children in conflict-affected regions.

The commitments will assist 200,000 Iraqi refugee children.

It will aid more than 300,000 children affected by the Darfur genocide.

Also announced were commitments by the following organizations:
The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation contributed $1.2 million to build a boarding school in Valentino’s home village in southern Sudan.

UNICEF has teamed up with Microsoft, the International Rescue Committee, and Hewlett-Packard to launch a new $30 million distance-learning initiative that will help $150,000 displaced children, including children affected by the Iraq conflict and children in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The International Rescue Committee is also committing to expand its field-tested Healing Classrooms Initiative to help 70,000 children in Afghanistan and 41,000 children affected by Darfur genocide.

The Save the Children Alliance is committing to expand education programs in place like Jordan and Lebanon to serve Iraqi refugees; and in Darfur and in southern Sudan.

The Sesame Workshop has committed to launch Sesame Street Afghanistan to teach Afghan children not only to read, but to understand words such as “tolerance” and “reconciliation.”

American Jewish World Service has raised $2.2 million to support education in Darfur, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Guatemala.

The Norwegian Refugee Council will expand its innovative accelerated learning programs to serve over 100,000 out-of-school youth in southern Sudan, as well as Iraqi refugees in Lebanon and Syria.

The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation has committed an additional $3 million to help expand the IRC’s education work in northern Uganda.

Unbound Philanthropy has committed to funding $500,00 in education projects developed through the Partnership.

To Open Girls School In Afghanistan
The Hollywood star announced the news on Monday

    Credit Entertainment wise:

Angelina Jolie has opened a girls-only learning centre in Afghanistan and has announced that she will use the proceeds from her new jewellery line to help fund other educational projects.

The actress, who is well known for her humanitarian work and has previously visited the country as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, announced the news to E! News on Monday.

“Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” Angelina told the celebrity news site.

The centre, which is situated in a village just outside of Kabul, educates 200 children and the mother-of-six has expressed her desire to open similar facilities on a global scale with the money raised from her jewellery collection, the Style of Jolie, with her pal Robert Procop.

“We launched this collaborative collection with the intent that 100 per cent of the profits will go to charity. The intention was to create something beautiful but more importantly to provide children an opportunity to have an education.”

The Style of Jolie goes onsale this week with 100 per cent of the profits going towards Angelina’s new foundation, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

A spokesperson added: “The beauty of these creations is matched by the beauty of spirit behind Angelina’s most heartfelt mission – to empower children in crisis.

“For me it’s an honour to have the opportunity to be a part of creating this line with Angie, as we both believe every child has a right to an education.”

The news comes after a judge ruled the Hollywood star did not plagiarise the story for her film ‘In The Land Of Blood And Honey’ from the book The Soul Shattering.

Angelina Jolie to sell jewelry line to fund overseas schools
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Angelina Jolie has opened another girls school in Afghanistan and plans to fund more from the proceeds of a jewelry line going on sale this week that she helped to design, celebrity website E! News reported on Monday.

Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, funded the girls-only primary school in an area outside Kabul that has a high refugee population, E! News said in an exclusive report.

The school educates 200-300 girls, E! said. It showed pictures of the school, which opened in November, and a plaque acknowledging Jolie’s contribution.

Jolie also funded a girl school in eastern Afghanistan that opened in 2010, according to the UNCHR.

Jolie’s representatives did not return calls for comment.

E! said that Jolie plans to pay for more schools by selling a “Style of Jolie” jewelry line that she helped create with jewelry maker Robert Procop. Procop designed the engagement ring given to the actress by her partner Brad Pitt in April 2012.

“Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” Jolie was quoted as telling the website.

Procop’s website said the “first funds from our collaboration together have been dedicated to the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict (founded by Jolie) to build a school in Afghanistan.”

According to the Style of Jolie website, the newly expanded collection includes versions of the black and gold necklace that the actress wore to the premiere of her 2010 movie “Salt,” a pear-shaped citrine and gold necklace, and rose gold and emerald tablet-shaped rings, earrings and bracelets. No price details were released.

The jewelry will go on retail sale for the first time on April 4 through Kansas City jewelry store Tivol, Tivol said.

Procop told E! that it was “an honor to have the opportunity to be part of creating this line with Angie, as we both believe every child has right to an education.”

Jolie is not the first celebrity to open schools in faraway places. Both Oprah Winfrey and Madonna have funded the building of schools in South Africa and Malawi in the past six years, although both ran into trouble.

Madonna’s project provoked controversy over costs and mismanagement, while a staff member at Winfrey’s school was arrested on charges of assault and abuse of students.

    @Trolls -
Please take a step back and actually read the articles and learn something for a change, if you are from an Educated society and had been fortunate enough to GO TO SCHOOL then you would see the bigger picture and count yourself blessed by having that freedom to do so. Instead of praising the good that’s been done with so many girls who have been given the opportunity to even have a book in their hands let alone go to school, yes little things for you but not to others these things that we take for granted but there are others unfortunate souls don’t even have that so instead of sitting there and spreading hate site by site go there and read & learn and educate yourself to be a better person.

Angelina Jolie use her jewelry line to help All-Girls School in Afghanistan. Ticky funds the bald fiance as a spoke-person of low class goods. Big difference!
    Love the Jolie-Pitts!

Speaking of schools……I can see you ‘learned’ nothing while in attendance. Why don’t you school yourself before you criticize others??? Brain too filled with negativity to be open to ‘learning,’ Present tense.

So what you are saying is that since Oprah had a problem, no one else should try and better education for girls and women? Now that is just ignorant. US schools are rife with bullying both by students, teachers, aides etc. as well as incidents of rape and teacher’s taking advantage of young kids. So maybe we should all give up and lock our doors and stay home.

  • lalalala

OMG…. QUEEN!!!! When will Beyawnce do it!! :P

Angie is a true citizen of the world as I am certain her children will be as well. Big message there for the ‘haves’…….

  • Phool

Thanks to Angelina Jolie, more than 200 Afghan girls now have access to a primary education. Using funds from sales of her Style of Jolie line of jewelry, the actress, U.N. Goodwill Ambassador and mother of six established a learning center for girls outside of Kabul, in a region where the refugee population is very high and boys are more frequently educated than girls. “Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” she told E! News, adding that she plans to set up learning centers like the one near Kabul in other areas around the world with profits from the line.

A number of the items available from Style of Jolie were inspired by a tablet-shaped necklace she designed for fiance, Brad Pitt. But as the pieces go onsale this week, Angie’s less politically minded fans seem to have their eyes glued to the bauble on her left ring finger, which was recently unburdened of the $250,000 diamond engagement ring Brad had given her, and replaced with a simple gold band, which she wore during a trip to Rwanda. She’s denied that it’s a wedding ring but Italian gossip site Grazia now claims the band was Brad’s great-grandmother’s ring –

See what’s happening in Libya, Syria soon ? Fundamentalist inserted by the west, set to control these countries and roll them all back from modern societies where women have rights, to archaich men only religious rule (like afghanistan). Angelina IS a participant in this evil merry go round as we see. She helps to legitimize the tearing down and building back up as the west sees fit using the UN as a tool.

Anyway, I’m so proud of Angie, always thinking about ways of how she can help. I see the trolls criticizing Angie’s good deeds but never expect anything from Ticky. Trolls want Ticky to hold on to her one hundred million dollars. They are happy she can buy a unemployed gigolo, her hens love her for being frugal, lololol.
