Boston Bombings: One Suspect Killed, Another at Large - Celebrities React

One of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, has been killed Friday (April 19) and his brother and accomplice, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is believed to be at large in the area.

The two brothers “robbed a 7-Eleven, shot a police officer to death, carjacked an SUV and hurled explosives in an extraordinary firefight with law enforcement,” according to NBC News.

“My son is a true angel,” the father of the suspects told People. “Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here.”

Residents of Boston and surrounding cities are urged to stay indoors and businesses have been advised to stay closed.

Alec Baldwin: “The effects of terrorism on our society will get worse before [they] get better. The presence of police as a paramilitary force in our society will now grow to new levels. Cameras, bomb-sniffing dogs, checkpoints, etc, will expand exponentially the notion that someone capable of brutal, cold-blooded and random killing walks openly in public will further shape our lives. [The] cost of security measures will skyrocket. Further diverting funds meant for other, equally important goals, in American society. Tweeting a simple observation re our society always yields 1 benefit. I can block all right-wing idiots that come out of their foxholes. The bravery and effectiveness of police is a blessing. Their presence is welcome, in times like these. Yet it highlights something.”

Scooter Braun: “waking up & turning on the tv to see this madness in Boston. myself & @hoogs are sitting here praying for everyone’s safety. #prayforboston”

Eliza Dushku: “It doesn’t get closer to home than this. #Watertown, MA~ #hometown God, please, everyone be safe. #Waterdown PD we are all sending you prayer… Born&raised in #Watertown. My beautiful fam is there, 20 search blocks/CNN in exact neighborhood I grew up in, Ma’s house-can’t believe this…Finally reached my Ma & Jim & they are fine & now staying indoors & turning on news.. Love to all- x… My parents are being morning greeted by SWAT, friends have bullet holes thru their walls, grenades in front of houses #surreal #Watertown”

Shonda Rhimes: “Truly, I have no words for what is going on, has been going on, in Boston.”

Jared, I’m sorry–I know this is a celebrity blog, but who cares how these celebs react. The true heroes and the people we should care about are the citizens of Boston who stepped up during this horrific event and risked their lives to save others. The marathon runners, citizens, fire and police officers, the EMT’s, the doctors, nurses and countless others who instead of tweeting actually did something!

@danielle: This is a celebrity website. You are correct there. And as a celebrity website, Jared is showing that celebs are ACTUALLY caring about the situation. If you want to read about the “true heroes” go to CNN or MSNBC. NOT go on celebrity website. So stop criticizing.

Ah…. is a celebrity website so JJ doesn’t have to add politices to it, celebrities react to a lot things that have nothing to do with them , doesn’t mean we have to be informed about it…..If I cared about their opinion, I would be reading their twitter page and not JJ. ……. Celebrities should be seen and not heard , their as dumb as rocks with a group think mentality and already influence negatively are culture enough as it is.

Baldwin is right. We live in a Big Brother society where the government controls us with fear.

@El… And then they go and vote democrat, the party of big governemnt, wait until Obamacare gets enacted in 2014,, they will also control of your healthcare. And make you pay 2 times more for it.

@Sam: Sam, it’s called freedom of speech and if she chooses to speak her mind here, so be it. Jared chose to put this article up. Not only does it deal with celebs but it deals with what’s going on in the world.

# 7

@Susan: Learning how to use the reply button, are we?

# 8

@Susan: Also, going by your “freedom of speech” comment… wouldn’t it be hypocritical to say that and then say I couldn’t respond to her form of “freedom of speech” I’m choosing to speak my mind also?

celebs think their opinion matters

@Sam:

Sam, the celebs can tweet all they want and it is Jared’s right to make whatever threads he wants to make. But given that he chose to report “news” – then I think some respect was called for. If the thread had been about what celebs were tweeting than fine. But the thread was about news.
But as someone else pointed out–we each are entitled to our opinions. And something tells me the majority of the world could give two hoots about what a celeb is tweeting. Sorry to be so cynical, but people who really care don’t have to let the world know they do–they reach into their wallets or they think of some other way to offer comfort. I’d much rather read about the Chicago Lutheran church that sends their therapy dog to victims for comfort rather than Lohan or Hilton offering sympathy just to show they are in touch with the common folk!
And I do read news sites as well as JJ–I just think this was not the best use of his venture into news by showcasing celeb tweets. You obviously think differently and that is fine.

@danielle: I agree with Sam. It isn’t Jared’s job to post the news. If you’ve been following this site for sometime, then you’ve realized, his only way of incorporating the news is if he can spin it with a celebrity story because that’s what people came here for. He was reporting the celebrity’s standpoint of the news so there’s still a difference.
