Zac Efron plants a wet one on Halston Sage‘s lips while shooting new scenes for Townies on Thursday night (April 25) in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old actor looks like he’s being initiated into the fraternity!

“Starting on a new project today! Can’t wait to share! I was so excited this morning I accidentally ate part of the sticker on my apple…” Halston tweeted before shooting with Zac.

Halston, who is dating Big Time Rush star James Maslow, will next be seen in Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring.

ive always thought he had the potential to be a new leonardo dicaprio, perhaps not as talented but in that sector. however, i have yet to see him in a role where he wows not only his fans but critics and the public. at any price doesnt have a storyline that particularly interests me but it seems to be a movie that critics liked him in

    AAP reviews:
Efron does equally strong work. Continuing to distance himself from his origins as a pretty-boy teen idol, he brings an intense, brooding stillness to the screen here, simmering with the frustrations of small-town entrapment.

Efron, who’s been proving himself a capable actor in films such as Me and Orson Welles and The Paperboy, gives a vibrant, resourceful performance powered by an inner strength. His scenes with Quaid are electric. There’s a palpable tension between them, and also an abiding love. Bahrani uses this father-son relationship as a metaphor for America and its citizens. In one astonishing scene, Bahrani presents a group of Iowans singing the national anthem, singling out each one to show the emotional play between faith and frustration on their faces.

He’s been getting great reviews for his performance. I hope that the people who say he can’t act and disregard him as an actor due to his disney credentials, see this film.

Equally as impressive is Zac Efron, who follows up his solid work in Lee Daniels’ wacko The Paperboy with his best performance yet as Dean, Henry’s son with racecar dreams that interfere with his father’s vision of keeping the family in farming. Fresh-faced and handsomely muscular, Efron brings all of his trademarks to the role, but it’s his unnerving sense of fear that really elevates this performance to memorability.

And just to think…….she actually gets PAID to kiss him!

  • IMO

Amazing reviews for AAP . Not sure about this one hope it’s not a step down from the more quality work he has been doing. I will have to wait and see how it turns out. Hopefully it will be a good one.

  • kami

his character’s frat initiation is to dress as a confederate soldier? is it supposed to be a southern college?

  • beth

any hoo i give gf mad props for having a chance to kiss one of the hottest hunks in the world. but i have to say am a lil jealous though.

  • amelia25

    Beautiful Zac!

  • Keep on dreamin’

    @Rachel: How bout this one?

Also miscast is Efron, in yet another performance that shows he’s a racehorse dying to be a mule. Yes, yes: handsome teen idols have to radically overhaul their image to be taken seriously as actors, but the star of “High School Musical” never seems believable as a hard-drinking, hard-loving, two-fisted stock-car racer with a chip on his shoulder.

Surely there’s a way for this actor to play to his considerable strengths and simultaneously shake off his Disney Channel past, but he hasn’t found it yet.

  • Keep on dreamin’

Efron, a dashing screen presence making interesting choices for a heartthrob actor, attempts a classic American icon: a sweaty, sandy-haired, jean-wearing teenage trouble-maker. But the rebel role doesn’t suit Efron: He doesn’t have a lick of danger about him.

  • Keep on dreamin’

Here he has the benefit of an experienced cast, led by Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron, but their characters are so hollow and unconvincing I don’t know who could have breathed life into them.

  • Keep on dreamin’

Zac Ephron stinks up every movie he appears in. That’s not to say however that casting a different actor — one who wouldn’t be better served doing toothpaste commercials — would improve substantially on co-writer/director Ramin Bahrani’s fatally flawed movie. Famous for immigrant dramas (“Man Push Cart,” “Chop Shop” and “Goodbye Solo,) Rami gets in over his head attempting to tell a tale of how American’s Corporate Industrial Complex impacts the lives of Midwest farmers. The film’s thematic lesson can be summed up as, “everybody cheats; some people get away with murder.”

  • Keep on dreamin’

As if to balance out his onscreen father, Efron retreats to vacant stares. It’s a deeply tedious double act; the characters and performances deserve each other.

  • Keep on dreamin’

But the dialogue and performances in At Any Price are about at the level of a Founders’ Day pageant.

  • flyhigh

    @Keep on dreamin’:
So you found two reviews saying he was miscast, two saying his role was badly written, and one saying he has a vacant stare? LOL Good for you! But you don’t seem to know every performance, even Oscar winning ones, has its detractors. The fact is, most critics agree that its the best performance from Zac and he’s a good actor.

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

@Keep on dreamin’: If you ask 200 people who have seen the movie, you’ll get 200 different opinions. I doubt Zac would be a miscast. He delivers great work and that’s probably a reason why the directors want to work with him. Ramin Bahrani called Richard Linklater to ask him, what he thinks about Zac and if he should cast him for At Any Price. Linklaters answer: Go, get him, he delivers.

Tom Hanks wanted Zac for the leading role (Jim Carrico) in Parkland. And someone like Hanks knows what he’s doing. He has more years of experience in the movie business than Zac is old. If Zac would be so bad, someone like Tom Hanks wouldn’t want him in his movie, much less for the leading role.

You won’t find so much young, determined and dedicated actors like Zac in Hollywood. He doesn’t care that he has to work up to 16 hours or more each day. He loves his work otherwise he wouldn’t do it. He makes his own decisions he needs nobody who’s doing it for him. And someone who should trying it, should disappear as fast a possible.

Zac has other priorities in his life. His work is his no. 1, then his family and his friends and behind no. 2 comes not much anymore, at least not yet. He won’t slow down, he has just started.

  • Rachel

I have posted many more positive reviews (atleast 5-6 more) before. I have posted links to many mixed ones before too. How nice of you to dig up the worse ones for him and bring em here? Haters research more about the actors than their fans do. Lol! Not everybody is gonna like his performance, right? There is hardly any movie where all the critics like a particular actor’s performance. But hid work has been appreciated in this one, as much as you’d like to prove otherwise. Top sites like Hollywood Reporter, LA times, Rolling Stone, New York observer have liked his work/movie.

    Another review:
    It’s powerful stuff.

  • Rachel

    @flyhigh:

Agreed! There have been so many positive reviews for him. Haters are hilarious, digging up articles to bring negative reviews to everyone’s notice.

  • Rachel

Here we go with more positive ones (I am a fan so yeah, I’ll bring the positive ones of course!):

Subtlety is hardly at home here, with Quaid’s especially earnest performance a well-suited mask for Henry’s desperation that nonetheless amplifies the phoniness of the entire enterprise. Efron does a better job of conveying his long-stewing resentments with nary a word spoken, but every bit of dialogue that does come out of his mouth is similarly keyed into obvious angst. (Source: Film.com)

As for Efron, anyone who saw him in Richard Linklater’s underrated Me and Orson Welles recognizes that the former High School Musical star has some depth beneath his boyish good looks. Dean is an ideal vehicle for Efron’s talents. (Source: Paste magazine)

Here is Mr. Ebert’s review of AAP. May his soul rest in peace.

    http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/at-any-price-2012

  • Rachel

    From Variety:

Starting with a montage of faded homevideo footage that casts Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron as members of a heartland family, this well-acted slice of rural Americana feels like a unique marriage of studio polish and neorealist sensitivity…

The two leads are in fine form here: Quaid poignantly reveals the jumble of insincerity and good intentions beneath Henry’s boisterous exterior, while the callow streak that Efron has often displayed as an actor has never felt as raw, vital and emotionally explosive as it does here. Before it reaches a full-blown Sturm und Drang pitch, the tense father-son dynamic feels believably rooted in a long history of resentments and misunderstandings, yet it’s also complicated by Dean’s willingness to defend his dad against those who seek his downfall.

  • Merlin’s Mum

I have to be honest that the reason why I come on here so little now is that the haters just got to me in the end. Zac could do the best performance of any actor ever and yet some people on here just hate him so damn much they can find nothing positive to say. discuss he picture and not another film altogether.

  • Fan

He looks good! Good luck for Townies!

  • R U sure

@Keep on dreamin’ Doe’s this mean you are going to see At Any Price,or do you let a few critics decide for you?
    I loved It.

  • Jisso

Fück yeah! Love watching Zac Efron kiss. ♥ ♥ ♥

  • Fruitfly

I find it absolutely hilarious that the hater does not cite her sources. For all we know, she got one from her town newspaper, one from her high school newspaper, one she wrote herself, one another hater wrote, and one she actually found online.

    Go Zac!

  • kelly martineau

He getting turned on by the kiss. To mad he’s not kissing V. He’s a hot guy. He cleaned up himself.

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

@kelly martineau: Please do us a huge favor and leave VH out of this. Zac has absolutely NOTHING to do with this woman anymore. And don’t bring her up here anymore. Go to her threads and post your stuff there but leave this section here clean of her.

And a 2 seconds kiss turns nobody on, especially such a stage kiss like this one.
