'Iron Man 3' Breaks Box Office Records with No. 2 Debut of All Time!

Robert Downey Jr.‘s latest flick Iron Man 3 has made the record books with a whopping $175.3 million debut, according to THR.

The film, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, is now only second to fellow Marvel movie The Avengers, which grossed $207.4 million in its first week of release. Overall, Iron Man 3 has made a worldwide total of $680.1 million so far.

Coming in at number two was Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s action/comedy film Pain & Gain, which brought in $7.6 million.

42, starring Harrison Ford, claimed the number three spot with $6.2 million grossed.

Tom Cruise‘s Oblivion and the animated film The Croods round out the top four and five spots with $5.8 million and $945,000 earned, respectively.

Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey‘s film Mud continued strong in limited release with $2.2 million in its second week at the box office.

    Cruise’s movie fell hard. Proof people only went to see it because there was no competition.

    It was ok and predictable. Too much Pepper Potts for my taste. Ready to see Downey do something different.
