'Scandal' Recap: Who is the Mole? Will Fitz Run Again?

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

The mole was finally revealed during the penultimate episode of Scandal‘s second season on Thursday (May 9).

All throughout the second half of the season, we have watched Kerry Washington‘s character Olivia Pope and her staff of gladiators try to figure out who in the White House was leaking information to other countries.

Also, we have been dealing with the fact that President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) is still in love with Olivia and his wife Mellie (Bellamy Young) has just revealed he has been unfaithful to her.

The episode starts off with Fitz and Olivia in bed together and rekindling their connection. Fitz decides that he is not going to run for reelection so that he can stay with Olivia. When his secretary tells Cyrus that the President’s reelection papers have been sitting on his desk unfiled for months, he realizes that its not just his desire to be with Olivia that is holding him back from running again. Cyrus tells Olivia about what he found out and she has a talk with him about it. When Fitz goes in front of the press to presumably announce that he will not run for reelection, he says that his family matters are private and that he will seek reelection. Mellie, who has hired a fixer of her own, seems like she has some tricks up her sleeve as she expected this all to happen.

The mysterious man that has been talking to Jake (Scott Foley) throughout this second half of the season tells Jake to give him the footage of him sleeping with Olivia. The man then goes to Cyrus and tells him that he has to get rid of his agent Charlie as he knows too much. Jake is given the task of taking him down, but the mission goes wrong when Charlie realizes what is happening. He then goes to Pope & Associates to get their help. Huck (Guillermo Diaz) takes him into a room and puts him in a torture situation. Huck demands that Charlie tells him who the mole is and he gets the name. He is about to put a bullet in Charlie’s head when Quinn (Katie Lowes) talks him out of it and tells him to let him go.

When Huck and Quinn get back to the office, Harrison reveals that the Cytron card, which is the key to the Defiance coverup, has gone missing. They come to the assumption that Charlie took the card, but then realize they won’t find it as they let him go.

We ultimately find out that the mole is Billy Chambers (Matt Letscher), who is the Chief of Staff of Vice President Sally Langston. He was presumed dead after he was seen in an elevator with Charlie, but now it is clear that they were all working together. To add more to the mystery, David Rosen, the prosecutor who was working on the Cytron case and then went to work for Olivia Pope after he was ruined in court, is working with Billy and is really the one who stole the card. David gives the card to Billy and the episode comes to a close.

We can’t wait to find out what happens on next week’s finale!
