'Iron Man 3' Wins Box Office Weekend Over 'The Great Gatsby'

Robert Downey, Jr.‘s Iron Man 3 held strong for the second week in a row, topping this weekend’s box office with $72.5 million grossed.

According to THR, the film, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, has brought in a whopping $285 million total so far.

Coming in at number two was the 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s novel “The Great Gatsby” – starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire – which brought in an impressive $51.1 million in its debut weekend.

Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s action/comedy film Pain & Gain claimed the number three spot with $5 million earned.

Tyler Perry Presents: Peeples, starring Kerry Washington and Craig Robinson, and Harrison Ford‘s 42 rounded out the top four and five spots with $4.9 million and $4.7 million earned, respectively.

    action movies tend to bring in the most money. just look at fast and furious, they’re still going yet making A LOT of money.

    Action movies bring the male and teen audience (regardless of rating)., especially super hero themed flicks. Horror use to be the big draw and it all changed with Batman Begins. That movie set the bar for were we are today.

    2 was better, it has more action, more story. This new is too cheesy. Stark is weak and Pepper is too present on screen. It’s like this movie was made specially for the actress.
