Charice Comes Out as Gay: 'I'm a Lesbian'

Glee star and international recording artist Charice has come out as a gay woman.

The 21-year-old singer made the brave reveal during an interview with the Filipino program The Buzz.

“Yes, I am a tomboy,” Charice said, using a common Filipino colloquial term for lesbian. “I don’t know what’s the problem with that. Because for me, there isn’t a problem with that.”

“Now, I’d like to ask for forgiveness to those who aren’t able to understand,” Charice added. “I just wanna say thank you personally to all my fans, to all the people who are still supporting me, who are still there for me, and honestly I am very, very happy.”

    her sexuality is her business but why change her image from a beautiful girl to this? Being lesbian doesn’t mean you have to be the stereotype one…I wish she kept her beautiful hair and wore makeup.

    This young lady is extremely gifted with such a beautiful voice. Her sexuality is no one’s business but her own.

    Why is it “brave” to say that you’re gay/lesbian? The Hollywood community LOVES gays and you’ll definitely get special treatment (an Emmy, or a call from the President). It’s really good for your career these days to say that you’re gay.

    Try to come out as conservative or pro-life. Now, THAT’s brave. You’ll be shunned and ridiculed, and Obama will sic the IRS on you, LOL!

    Sara Says:

    @Cara: To quote you, her appearance is her business. She was obviously not comfortable in her skin before, now she seems to be. Wanting her to change her appearance because she doesn’t fit your standards of a “beautiful girl” is ridiculous.

    I’m Filipino and I don’t care if she’s a lesbian or an international singer, I never liked her. This is not a surprise, I was expecting this kind of drama from her.

    @Roman: It’s ok, you don’t need to know :)

    sillyme @ – It is brave because people are bullied into coming out. Often, they are taunted with folks who will out them viciously so they are forced to do it on their own terms. Also, she is from a 95% Catholic country and it is illegal in the Phillipines so she is quite brave. Please keep politics out of this. Sounds childish.

    Cara Says:

    @Sara: and where are you quoting me from? I wrote “sexuality” not “appearance.” Obviously, you have no idea what a quote is. Btw, she does not look like a girl at all.

    Davids Says:

    @sillyme: You are right.
    I am not against gays at all. But why is it that if someone comes out as gay they deserve a call from the President and get all this praise, just because they decided to be open about their sexuality? Its stupid.
    Also, Obama and all of his Hollywood pals only say they support gay rights only to make themselves looks good. Remember in Hollywood, there was that dumb ” We won’t get married until everyone has the right to do” petition? Natalie Portman, brangelina, and many,many other celebes signed this and yet they all got married or are engaged. Hypocritcial much?
    And please, dont attack me. I admire gay celebs like Zachary Quntio. Who only mention it one time, and I don’t remeber Obama giving him a call either.

    Jas inNY Says:

    Davids and sillyme: same person. Trying to sell some [olitical agenda while attacking a person’s right to say who they are. Pathetic troll. Over 95% of Hollywood is Democrat. If you don’t like the President or Dems, why are you on a celeb blog? Why torture yourself?

    CHARICE is a not only an incredible singer and actress, she now leads the bandwagon of young lesbians who are not afraid to be out and proud! she was met with hordes of bullies and banters when she opted to shed her girlie look. bashers did not leave her in peace. little did they know that CHARICE will meet them head on in a one on one tell all interview. she comes out a winner! championing the fight for respect and recognition that all is fair and equal… straight or gay! she was flooded with overwhelming support from celebrities, fans and people from all walks of life! GO CHARICE!!!
