Nigel Lythgoe Fired from 'American Idol' After 12 Seasons

Nigel Lythgoe will no longer be an executive producer on American Idol.

The 63-year-old So You Think You Can Dance judge confirmed his firing via Twitter.

“just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday. I get back to the States and get fired,” Nigel tweeted. “Sad! Monday we choose our top 20. I’ll smile again.”

“Yes, don’t worry I’m on #SYTYCD. FOX still loves me. It’s not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons,” he added.

This year’s American Idol‘s finale lost seven million viewers compared to 2012. It is likely they are looking to revamp the show. Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey have all confirmed they won’t be back next season.

At least he’s man enough to admit me. Unlike the others, who release statements like “we want to concentrate on other projects”. Right, just admit they don’t want you back.

    I meant admit it.

Not a bad idea. I feel that those theme weeks like Motown and Beatles week etc…came from him and totally was out of step with what is happening now. If you want to showcase classic hits at least go as recent as 80′s & 90′s era.

It’s just like the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB firing a head cosh when the players suck. Nigel should be glad he is off that sinking ship. Who will they blame after this season crashes and burns?

Yeah I really don’t think it is his fault that the ratings have dropped. The show has run its course – accept it and move on.There are so many similar talent shows on the air now so it’s just not unique anymore.

they made their money,..time to put the show to rest!!]]

Not the judges fault..the minute simon cowel runnoff, the show was done for and I even stopped watching way before that

Nothing against Nigel, but Idol lost me this season after being a loyal fan since day one. They really lost the heart and humor when JLo and Steven Tyler left. They should have offered them the moon to stay. If not, at least duplicate them in some way if at all possible. Humor and heart….that was the secret. Didn’t you guys get it after Simon Cowell?? Even Cowell would be better because at least we loved to hate him! Randy? Hey, “Dog” it is time to leave, but you were the catalyst. So now we have heart, humor and a steadfast voice of reason….GET IT?

I think it was the combination of Mariah and Nicki as judges is what killed Idol ratings! All that distraction, drama and negativity took focus away from the show. And btw, Mariah was the worst A.I. judge in it’s history!

I agree Mariah and Nicki were the worst and Randy was boring. I really liked Keith though.

revamp the entire show. stop showing idiots in the pre-show. it is a singing contest not a an idiot show. Stop humiliating would be contestants in the pre-show and contestant during the show. DON’T TRY TO MANIPULATE THE VIEWERS. JUDGE STRICTLY ON HOW THE CONTESTANTS PREFORM NOT ON WHAT THE PRODUCERS THINK WHO SHOULD WIN. GET RID OFF THE PRODUCERS AND THE JUDGES SELECTING WHAT THE THE CONTESTANTS SHOULD SING IN THE NEXT TO LAST SHOW. AND LAST BOTH FINALISTS SHOULD SING THE SAME SONG ( THE ONE THAT WILL BE RELEASED). THEN MAYBE I WILL CONSIDER WATCHING THE SHOW.
