Last week, the two brothers – Colton and Zach- chatted about being inducted to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, being recognized at the airport, and their love for Safe Haven‘s Julianne Hough.

The Swon Brothers are aiming for a shot at the finals, going up against Michelle Chamuel, Sasha Allen, Amber Carrington, and Danielle Bradbery. Come back tomorrow to find out who makes it to the finals!

JustJared.com Interview – The Swon Brothers

JustJared.com: How was it going home?

Zach Swon: We got home and we were surprised. The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is located in Muskogee, Okla, which is our hometown. A lot of people have been inducted. At the beginning of our careers, you get the Rising Star Awards, Blake received it 10 years ago and Carrie Underwood received when she got off of Idol. All American Rejects have gotten it. Someone gets it every year. Anyway, We were surprised with a ceremony when we got home. We received this Rising Star Award from the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. There was a video from Vince Gill, a video from Roy Clark and a video from Blake Shelton all telling us congratulations. And it’s a really big honor, man. It was really cool. We did a concert in our hometown and nobody had ever packed out the seats. Last night, they turned people away. We were shocked. There were seats filled all the way to the ceiling. It was amazing.

JJ: How are you battling through the fatigue?

Colton Swon: We are running on pure adrenaline, but we love it. Last night, we got there because we left L.A. at 9:50, we left the hotel at 9:50pm on Wednesday and we rode planes all night on the red eye and went straight to the news in Tulsa Canyon and they had us running all day. We did not sleep on the plane.

JJ: What did you do on the plane?

CS: Safe Haven, I didn’t want to watch it but ahhh. It was pretty good. I might have gotten emotionally involved in that movie.

ZS: and Julianne Hough… oooh….

JJ: Since you guys have to record in separate rooms during the recordings, what does that do to you guys to be separate for that moment?

ZS: We can still see each other and hear each other. It’s mainly for sound issues, so my singing doesn’t bleed over to his mic and his singing don’t bleed over to mine.

JJ: Did this experience teach you anything?

ZS: The moment we got on the show, I didn’t really realize the magnitude of how big TV is. It didn’t hit me until these past few days. We are usually at a hotel or on NBC set, so we don’t go out. At the airport, it finally hit us. We took picture after picture, we could barely walk through the airport. They brought security and this time we had security travel with us. I was like, this is awkward and uncalled for. People just bombard you. Once one person sees you take a picture, everyone is like, ‘Wait, I don’t why people are taking pictures of you guys, but I’m gonna get one too.’

JJ: You talked about being bullied on one of episodes, did you run into any of these people?

ZS: I will say I have a lot more cousins now than I had before and it’s funny – a lot of the girls that broke my heart back in junior high, they are not hesitant to send messages on Facebook. I don’t reply.

JJ: What do the messages say?

ZS: It’s all like, “I really think you’re hot.” They just act like we haven’t missed a beat. [Like it is still] eighth grade. Like, “Hey! I’m really proud of you and I know we haven’t talked in a while. Call me.”

CS: But we were talking, though. We wouldn’t have drawn that many people in our hometown [on Thursday] night if it wasn’t for the show…[And people we know are] like, “What do you think about that – all these people coming out just to see you now?” I’m like, “That was the point!” And they’re like, “Oh, they’re just jumping on the band wagon!” I’m like, “That’s the point.” That’s the point of the show and that’s the point of our career… to create bandwagons and so we love it. I love every message I get, even from people I really wasn’t even close to [who] act like they know me now and that’s fine. I’m glad they’re doing that. It’s flattering.

JJ: Are you guys more nervous now?

CS: At this point, at first it was nervous, at this point, it builds friendships and feels like you’re doing a show, not a competition. You know, even after it, we are setting ourselves up too and it looks promising. At the end of the day, it’s not what these singers do, it’s your fan base and support.

JJ: Would you guys like work with some of the other contestants after the show?

CS: Yea, we would like to do something with everybody. For Team Blake, I think a lot of us will get together and if it is legal, do a show together. We’ve already talked about that when there were twelve on the show. It’s going to be cool.

ZS: At this point, we have some stiff competition and we would love to make the finale. It’s going to come down to how much support someone has. The music side of stuff that matters, but these last two weeks, it’s going to be about the connection you make with people in the interviews and the reality package. For me, as the voter in the last season, I looked at the people who were most personable in their interviews. Our main goal is to connect with people. Hopefully, they will pull us through.
